Cozy lair in downtown Bend

Wrens nest was very clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, plus walking distance or a short drive to restaurants. Although the house is small, the spaces have been maximized for utility and comfort. We loved having the house to come back to after each long day of hiking. Steve was easy to communicate with and instructions were clear. Highly recommend this rental to anyone visiting Bend or hiking at Newberry Crater or Smith Rock state park.

absolutely perfect!

From initial booking to check out the host Steve was quick to reply and very nice! The rental home itself could not have been more perfect! The location was easy walk to 3 main areas with food/shops and the home itself was stocked with anything you could need. It was cute, clean and comfortable and loved spending time relaxing on the outdoor patio/deck. Will definitely recommend to friends and stay om a future visit. Thank you Steve!

Successful 50th birthday trip

The property is well-kept quaint house in a historic neighborhood. Close to the river trail and plenty of restaurants and shops to spend an entire weekend and never get in a car (altho we did in order to explore the forest trails and lakes south of Bend). But when “home” we racked up the steps exploring town. The houses are fairly close together on that street so on Fri/Sat nights when the neighboring short term rental was filled we did have some rowdy or loud talking neighbors who woke us up. But no big deal and expected for where we were. There is also a train nearby but we only heard it once and not at night. Very clean property, small shady backyard perfect for taking a break for activity and enjoying the weather. The host was communicative and very nice to leave a birthday note and gift for my husband. Would definitely stay here again!

Easy trip to downtown

The house offered all of the amenities that we needed for our trip to visit family. We enjoyed the backyard setup with the cornhole and while we didn't end up using the bikes, we loved that they were there and well-taken care of. There were quite of few games to play and dvds to watch as well. It was also an easy 8 minute walk to downtown.

About the host

Hosted by Steve Wren

Host profile image
After searching the Pacific Northwest for the perfect place to hang our hats in retirement we found Bend offered the places and spaces for all of the outdoor and cultural activities we enjoy. Even better, all of these places are within an hours drive. The town offers our favorite beverages, excellent restaurants, and entertainment all a short walk from our historic home. The idea of walking and biking to escape the constant need of a car was high on our priority list. We are fortunate to have found the place, Bend, and the space, our Wren's Nest to enjoy for many years. We are delighted to share what we enjoy with others. Even the drive over the Cascade Range to sunny Bend is the beginning of our scenic adventure.
If we are not hiking, Nordic skiing, kayaking, biking, or exploring the high desert, we are enjoying the culture and festivities Bend offers. There is always entertainment or adventure just outside, a short walk or ride from our door.

Why they chose this property

Location, location, location. We wanted to downsize and live in a comfortable home in the heart of Bend. That we found a solid, comfortable, historic property made this choice of home even more special. To be located on a quiet, neighborhood street just steps from all the town of Bend has to offer sealed the deal.

What makes this property unique

The mill house is located in a designated Historic District of Bend. All dwellings and businesses within this district are required to retain the turn-of-the-century exterior conditions when improving a property. This home's stacked lava rock foundation, original fir wood floor and other vintage details of the era are retained along with updates to interior spaces. This home is a designated Historic Property.
