For ornithologists, the region is a true paradise for their observations. Højer is also home to Northern Europe's tallest Dutch windmill from 1857, with a museum on the history of mills and the cultural and natural history of the marsh in Tønder. From the mill you have a fantastic view of the Wadden Sea and the marsh. In addition, excursions to Møgeltønder with Schackenburg Castle, to Tønder and to the Wadden Sea National Park offer varied experiences.
