About this property

Maxwelton Beach Waterfront: Sunsets and Olympic Mountain views

Whether a few weeks or a few days, Kate’s Cottage on Maxwelton Beach is the perfect spot for your get-away. With a western view of the Olympic Mountains and colorful sunsets, you’ll find relaxation at every turn. Step outside and you will be 50 yards from the Puget Sound, tempting you to explore miles of sandy beaches and tides. Whidbey Island and Kate’s Cottage present you with an unbeatable array of activities and amenities to make your stay a pleasant one.

The beach style cottage has an open floor plan and two bedrooms, sleeping 4 people. Curl up by the gas stove to enjoy a good read, but expect to get distracted with the beauty of the water, mountains and a myriad of wildlife. Eagles are regular visitors, along with diving osprey, loons, seals, dalls porpoise and deer. We’ve spotted grey whales, orca and otter too!

At low tide, you’ll have miles of sandy beach to explore right outside the door. Fish for salmon from the shore or dig for clams, or simply enjoy a good beach walk to find shells and sand dollars.

After a good beach walk, if a nap is not in order … perhaps a friendly game of croquet on the expansive lawn.

Very cute and clean!

This house is so adorable! The views from the living room are amazing!! The house had everything we needed. We had a lot of fun walking on the beach, and watching all the wild life. Couldn't have asked for a better place to have a girls weekend.

Wonderful vacation cabin in a great location.

We truly enjoyed our stay, caught crabs just off the coast, walked the beach, explored the island parks, rested in the hot tub, and watched the World Series on a nice TV. We accomplished all of that still at a relaxing pace because of the great location and features of the home. Oh, and did I mention the pink sunset over the Olympics and the shell collecting for the kids? The owner is friendly and responsive. The only issue we had was initially no hot water because it was turned down for winter. Once we figured that out, we had no other concerns.

Great place

We have been going to Kate's Cottage for about 10 year now, only missed a few yearly visits and will continue to go as long as we can. The views are wonderful, cottage is well equipped, friendly neighbors, great outdoors space for long walks if the tide is low, awesome for kids with lots of drift wood to build tends. We were all sad we had to leave and already looking forward to the next visit.

Great little escape!

We planned an impromptu trip away with a couple of friends. It was a perfect little cottage with a spectacular view on one of my all time favorite beaches. We thought the cottage was actually cuter than pictured and totally plan to come back as often as we can. It had everything we needed! And it's wonderful that we could bring our dogs who just absolutely ran their little hearts out on at low tide. It's notable that the house is completely wheelchair accessible. The owners were super nice and accommodating. Can't wait to come back!

Lovely winter weekend

We had a lovely weekend at the house. We especially enjoyed going for long beach walks. The house is clean and well-provisioned (nice cooking supplies.) Incredible views of the Olympics - especially from the hot tub. The owner was very accessible and easy to work with. This was our second stay here and we would certainly come back again.

Girls weekend!

I just returned from a weekend getaway with 3 of my girlfriends. The house was very clean, had a beautiful view, and had all the supplies you need for cooking. Hot tub was wonderful and you have plenty of grass space for bocce ball and other lawn sports. The owner was quick to respond to all questions prior to going and gave very simple easy instructions for checking in and out. There is also a very helpful resource book at the house with information about the rental as well as things to do in the area. The house was easy to find from the directions on the website, and the travel time given was exact from the Seattle area. Overall great travel experience, would recommend it to anyone and will definitely return myself.

Nice Winter Getaway

This was my second stay- this time in winter. We enjoyed a winter beach walk. Later it rained and we watched the wonderful window view from the cozy living room, toasty with the heating stove. After dinner the rain stopped and we enjoyed the hot tub looking up at a star filled sky. The next morning we were greeted with an incredible view of snow-capped mountains out across the water. The day was sunny and beautiful and we took another beach walk. Just a note- the cabin has a wonderfully equipped kitchen, one of the best, with almost anything you might need for cooking. Everything is clean, tidy and has a lovely setting right on the beach with a wonderful view.

Great Weekend at Kate's Cottage

We spent an enjoyable romantic two nights in the cabin while sightseeing around Whidbey Island. The cabin is conveniently located close to the Clinton Ferry Landing and is right on the beach. The owner was quick in responding to our late request for lodging. Pictures and description was spot on. The cabin was clean and very well provisioned. We really enjoyed the hot tub both morning and nights, watching the boats sail by while soaking. We would highly recommend this property to both friends and family. Proximity to the local towns makes for very convenient excursions to stores, shops, bars and restaurants. Although we are Seattle natives, this was our first stay on Whidbey and we were pleasantly surprised by the area and the especially the quality of restaurants. Already booked our next stay!

6/10 Okay

Adequately clean

The view is spectacular! This cottage is very comfortable. Unforunately the bathroom and refrigerator had not been cleaned before our arrival. We tried to contact the owner when the hot tub was not heating. It took him 2 days to respond back to us. We were able to reset it ourselves and enjoy the view. It took 30 days to receive my deposit. Owner not very responsive- in my opinion.

We have enjoyed Kate's Cottage for 15 years and it has truly been a haven for our family.

Dinners gathered around the table have been filled with laughter and good stories, specially when debating a competitive game of croquet. Shouts of 'bald eagle' when spotted never get old and 'Googling' the latest ship going by is always a must.

Maxwelton Beach is a special spot, we hope you enjoy it too!
