Nestled on 44 acres of rolling hills, open prairies and hardwood forests, Prevailing Winds Lodge is the perfect place to enjoy privacy and peace. Whether you come to relax and unwind in the cozy guest rooms or explore the miles of on-site trails, your stay will leave you wanting more. From the moment you ascend the tree lined driveway, you will be transported to back-country Colorado by the whispering pines and full log lodge. Just 30 minutes outside of Madison, the lodge is located in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin and has views of the beautiful Blue Mound State Park and Brigham County Park.

WEDDINGS: Serenity, nature, privacy and peace are just a few things you'll experience on your wedding day at the lodge. Let the beautiful surroundings sweep you and your partner away as you begin your life together as one. The lodge offers the most intimate of settings for small weddings and breathtaking vistas from high atop our prairie for large weddings (no guest limit). The lodge does not have any restrictions on the vendors of your choice, but does offer packages for certain amenities and referrals for local merchants and suppliers. Please contact us for more details about the many options the lodge provides for your special day.

Built in 1996, the lodge offers an unparalleled experience in guest comfort, relaxation areas and outdoor activities. Attention to detail was the mantra of the craftsman who forged the lodge to include reclaimed wood countertops, a local barn wood mantle, coins integrated in the hardwood floors which mirror the American Club Resort in Kohler, a handcrafted moose and elk antler chandelier, a Michael Feeney carved dragon and full chinking between every log.

Inside the lodge you will be enamored by the soaring great room which features a 30-foot field stone fireplace, handmade Craftsman-style cabinetry, a 1904 Indian Girl canoe hanging overhead, a 9 foot reclaimed Russian Oak dining table and attractive antiques. Outside the lodge you will be rejuvenated by the fresh air and peaceful privacy of over 40 acres.

great work retreat

Our law firm chose Prevailing Winds for a retreat and it provided the perfect setting to conduct business and relax. Secluded, yet close enough the quaint town of Mt. Horeb and Madison for the football game. The hosts were wonderful and provided as assistance with everything we needed.

Fanastic property

This place is really something special. It's built to host a lot of people, and it does it well. The kitchen was stocked with more than we expected (pots, pans, plates, glasses, etc.), the rooms had all the furnishings, the firepits all had wood; we really didn't have to do anything additional other than arrive and have a good time. Great host too - responded within the hour to inquiries.

Above and Beyond!!

The property was gorgeous. More importantly, the host was OUTSTANDING. Steve was extremely helpful, texting me each morning asking if we needed anything. He was very helpful in providing places to eat, things to do, and provide general information regarding the weekend! We were in town for the Alabama-Wisconsin game! He made us feel very welcomed!! The place, the host and the experience were all First Class!! Thank you Steve, and thank you Prevailing Winds Lodge!! PS-Definitely try out Hi Point Steakhouse for dinner and Driftless Social for the Martinis!! Friendly staffs and great atmosphere!!

Outstanding guys trip

Prevailing Winds Lodge was perfect for our group of guys. First of all, Jen and Steve were incredibly responsive and proactive with asking if we needed anything all weekend, so thank you to them for their hospitality. We had 16 guys stay, which was just the right amount. The whole setup is perfect with the large comfortable couch, multiple large dining areas, several lightweight Adirondack chairs, etc. We made steaks on the grill and played a 8 vs. 8 softball game on the land. Check out instructions were not burdensome at all and easy to do. The lodge is clean and feels very updated. Thanks again to Jen and Steve!

Perfect Family Vacation

We had a small family reunion at this property. It was very spacious with plenty of different areas, inside and out, to socialize. The area around the house was fun for the younger crew to explore. The hosts were very prompt in communication and with any requests we had during our stay. Would highly recommend if you're looking to spend time in a secluded setting with a large group!

Amazing place!

The house was amazing! It is as described in the listing. We had a wonferful time. There is plenty of room on the driveway, if you're a big group with multiple vehicles. The location is great and very well secluded. We would love to go again!

Perfect Christmas Stay

Our families had an amazing time at this home. It was perfectly setup for 5 families with beds for 16. Fully equipped kitchen with plenty of dishes, glasses, and cookware to host our 4 night stay. The check-in process added a welcoming touch and the owner stayed in contact throughout our stay, and was 100% responsive to our needs. The fireplace was amazing and there was plenty of cut, dry wood to burn. I highly recommended this home for your next visit near Madison or New Glarus!

Wonderful house!

We were a party of 14 and everyone slept comfortably. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home. The property and house were beautiful. Pictures didn't do it justice. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful from beginning to end. Highly recommend this rental.

Idyllic

This was such a great stay! The property is beautiful. You know you've arrived someplace special right away: the long driveway winds through a lovely little wood with a stream and delivers you to the front door of the lodge. The lodge is spectacular. Comfortable and spacious with a fabulous kitchen and great beds. Our hosts were so thoughtful - they checked in to make sure our visit was going well, left us a welcome basket with goodies to celebrate our daughter's graduation, and accommodated our 8:45 pm arrival time with such generosity (thank you Karo!). We enjoyed the fire pit just steps from the front door, the welcoming front porch, and particularly loved our twilight walk up to the meadow with it's sweeping views of pasture and sky. There were visits from deer who bedded down for the night in the ferns just steps away from the house and a plump woodchuck in the field along the driveway. Mourning doves and all sorts of birds provided birdsong. Coyotes sang at night. The whole weekend felt restful and magical. Highly recommend.

Perfect for our group

Everyone in our group was in awe of the beautiful lodge! We made good use of the spacious and well-equipped kitchen and enjoyed gathering around the toasty fireplace. We had one small request during our stay and it was addressed immediately. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Wonderful weekend!

I rented the lodge for my birthday weekend so I could spend time with my kids & grandkids (8 adults & 6 kids) without anyone having to host. It was my best birthday ever!!!!! Magical time!!!! Plenty of space, awesome kitchen, beautiful well appointed lodge, and lots of land to explore. Hosts were super attentive and super chill which I appreciated ( it really took the worry out of clean up & check out. ). Everyone agreed that we should make this an annual event!

Exceeded Expectations!

Large family gathering. 2 grandparents. 7 adult children/spouses and 6 grandkids all stayed. Plenty of room in the house for each family to have their space in their room and also several areas to gather for meals/hangouts. Lots of different gathering spaces in the outdoor areas. Property was very well maintained. You could tell the owner took pride in the property. Very good attention to detail - every room has it owns sink, comfortable sheets, plenty of towels, kitchen was very well stocked, lots of firewood, plenty of chairs. We enjoyed the walks around the property, especially the sunset up by the big tent. The kids had a great time and plenty to do. Owner was very receptive to our needs and checked in frequently. We were looking for a property where the kids could play, adults could relax and we would feel like we could enjoy ourselves without having to go “into town”. And this met our expectations and more!

Beautiful & Spacious

The home and property are awesome! Huge, well - equipped kitchen, plenty of hot water and fresh towels, comfortable beds, and lots of options for dining and game space! Breathtaking Home and Location

I don’t even know where to begin. This place was AMAZING. We had 15 close family members stay with us for a baby shower. There was plenty of room for everyone and house had everything you could imagine. All of the kitchen drawers were labeled and organized nicely. There are numerous windows throughout the house that brought in natural sunlight. The porch was amazing and the fire pit is right out front. The property itself was gorgeous. I can only imagine how perfect a wedding would be there. Truly remarkable! We’re already thinking about another girls weekend getaway in the future. The hosts were accommodating and the communication was outstanding.

Great Bachelor Party

This property was perfect for 12 guys in their mid 30's looking for a chill, relaxing bachelor party. Great Kitchen, tons of eating space, plenty of room for sleeping, and great outdoor space. The hosts were wonderful to work with. We would highly recommend this property.

Wonderful For Family Events

A beautiful experience. Large home with unique room and board. Games and activities, including a shuffle board table. This is a perfect location for family reunions or weddings. Lots of space surrounding the property for large events. Only concern (which didn’t impact us) is a long driveway. Snowy days may cause issues for some. We look forward to booking again!

Halloween Wedding

Relaxing Retreat

We rented this property for a family gathering of 8 adults and two small children. We had a wonderful time enjoying the property and the trails on the property. The house was beautiful and everything was exactly as described on the website. We will return to this property in the future.

Spacious Cabin

The cabin was spacious and was surrounded by trees and secluded from other neighbors however it appeared there were tenants residing on top of a three car garage which was directly next to the cabin. The cabin is on a hill and unfortunately there wasn't a flat lawn to set up a volleyball net. The gas grill provided was great, but the grill needed some cleaning. The gas lines inside the grill was dirty and the fire was slow as it appeared the holes for the gas was plugged. The cabin was clean! Although it was spacious, I wish the owner would let guests have access to the basement! I would rent again!

Prevailing WINS!!

Tons of gratitude for everything revolving around our stay at this huge, cozy cabin. Our spring break had been scheduled in sunny San Diego but had to be cancelled last minute because of the COVID19 pandemic. Prevailing Winds Lodge to the rescue! Our family of 6 + 5 nights with the amenities of this property = lifelong memories. The layout of the cabin inspired camaraderie and conversation. There was ample room for our group to simultaneously have a 1,000 piece puzzle working on half of the dining room table, an epic shuffleboard tournament upstairs, and plenty of kitchen space for all three of our daughters to execute the ‘Chopped Challenge’ we set up for them in the kitchen. With 5 bedrooms, there was also plenty of opportunity to take time to yourself for reading and rest. ...and that was just inside the cabin... The fresh air and forty acres surrounding this gem are not to be overlooked. This is solitude and serenity, quiet and seclusion. Kidddos running free and making up games, walks and talks, time to quiet your mind next to a babbling brook, and some good ol’ creek stomping were some of the highlights. It all felt a million miles away from the everyday norms we are accustomed to. On top of it all, our hosts were pleasant, accommodating and instantly responsive - many, many thanks! What a great trip.

We stumbled on this property while living and working just north of Madison. Supported by my son (Wyatt), daughters (Anna; Estelle; and Charlotte) and husband (Steve), I have been able to fulfill a childhood dream in this breathtaking log home.
