In The Heart Of Castine, 3 blocks from docks, perfect for family reunions
Our historic home is situated right on Main St in the heart of Castine. The home is across the street from the Castine Golf Course and two blocks to the shops. There is a large 1/2 acre yard off the back of the house perfect for kids to play and a large deck overlooking the yard and garden to enjoy the sun. The House had a major renovation in the summer of 2013 with a brand new updated kitchen, heating, windows, wiring, and paint. Our home has all the necessary amenities of a modern home (wifi, flat panel tv's, lighting) with the historic molding and charm of Castine. We have 4 bedrooms on the second floor with two more bedrooms on the third floor. Then an addition that houses a separate bedroom and bathroom area just off the main house for a total of 5 bedrooms. Great house for a large family or for multi-family stay in the heart of Castine, walking distance to everything.

I don’t normally leave reviews, but this place and town were so great! The house was clean, charming, and huge! It was an old cozy cottage with large bedrooms and the hosts were very responsive. The town was quiet but had everything you need for a beautiful costal getaway. If we come to Maine again we will surely rent agai . Our whole family off 11 loved it.

Awesome place
We really enjoyed this gorgeous historic house/property. Huge place with plenty of room. Beautifully furnished. Great bedrooms and beds. Huge sunroom and deck off kitchen. Hard to get the girls out of the house for the day cause it was so comfy to hang out. Owner super helpful with everything. Loved it.
It was great to be in Castine in August with lots of space for our group. The house was plenty big for our 2 families to stay together and enjoy a week in downeast Maine. The listing doesn't give a clear description of bedrooms, but there are 7 total (5 queen and 2 twin beds). The kitchen has plenty of space and supplies to make yourself at home for the week and there is lots of room to spread out in the house as well.

Great Central Location in Castine
We rented this property for a group of 8 over the Memorial Day weekend and it was the perfect fit. Our travelers ranged from 30-85 years old and the house was able to accommodate everyone comfortably. The location cannot be beat for anything in Castine. The house was walking distance from the little center of town as well as right across from the golf course. The house was clean and the owners were very accommodating with making sure our stay was comfortable.
MY wife and I brought our sons and their families to Maine to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I searched many, many VRBO properties before landing on this one. What a delight from the first time we entered. It is an older house with everything you would expect a Maine dwelling to be. And as my wife said, "the pictures on the website do not do it justice". The rooms are many and the bedrooms all have new and comfy mattresses. There are great rooms to gather and relax in and a game room with a pool table which my13 year old grandson found much to his liking. The host was very congenial and the check in was a breeze. My oldest son and his wife are both architects in Syracuse, NY and were enthralled with the property. It is a quaint property in a quaint Maine town and fairly accessible to Acadia, Bar Harbor, Camden and other great places. Loved it!❤️
Our family of 8 - 6 adults - one 17 year old and one almost a year old grandson enjoyed a week long stay in this property in mid-July.
The property was clean and had appropriate sanitizing sprays and liquids available. The location is great - top of the hill with a short very pleasant walk down Main Street into Castine. Golf course literally across the street and our group enjoyed a round of golf during our stay.
Castine is a quiet town that is home to the Maine Maritime Academy so it has a few amenities that one might not find in more remote towns in Maine which means it has some spots for a drink and some good restaurants, breakfast spots and convenience stores. Not a small one store town but not anywhere near a bar every other building town either. Perfect to enjoy the coastal region with some amenities available. Historic lighthouse is a short walk from town and Back Bay is a great place to schedule a traditional Maine lobster/clambake on the shore as we did one evening - Markel's is the place to contact if you are looking for this experience - great food and great people. A lot of historic homes that are well maintained take you back in time and help you slow down and unwind. COVID-19 did provide some limits and closures but even with the required precautions, it was very relaxing.
The house is open, has a well appointed kitchen and a fantastic deck with side lawn that we enjoyed every night with cookouts and a nice glass of wine as we sat and talked as a family. The owners were very responsive and took care of any minor issues one might find in a historical home. The weather was a bit warmer than usual but not oppressive - fans in the upstairs rooms are adequate as even on hot days the Maine evenings are cool.
You are an easy drive to the big attractions like Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor but also close to some very charming villages. We rented a 22 foot Boston Whaler out of the marina in South Brooksville and toured the coast and stopped at a number of small islands - highly recommend this as a day adventure - bring a cooler with drinks and lunch and really see the Maine Coast - boats have GPS with nautical charts so navigation is quite easy.
We have been fortunate to stay at VRBO properties around the world and we would visit this one again.
Charming historical house in lovely Castine. Clean, spacious with plenty of room to congregate or spread out. Lots of rooms to provide privacy. Nice yard for playing. Castine is off the beaten path so you won't run into the touristy crowds but you will need to do some driving to get to places. Town has a ton of history which makes it interesting.
We had a great stay at this house in Castine. The house is large with plenty of room. Lovely porch for enjoying the fresh Maine air. The house and the whole town have a lot of historic charm. A few things we enjoyed most: hiking in Witherlee Woods (trails begin nearby the house), the night-time bioluminescent kayak tour with Castine kayak, and Hawaiian iced tea from the Castine Breeze & Variety store. We had a great time and would come back.
My family and I enjoyed our time in Castine, it is a beautiful peaceful town with lots of history.
The house had all the amenities needed for a family of 10. Dave was very responsive to any questions we had before the trip.
We look forward to returning soon!
My family and I really enjoyed our vacation in Maine, especially in Castine. The house on Main Street is comfortable and equipped with everything you need to cook meals and enjoy family time (games, puzzles, and internet). The house is well located to go to the swimming beach or into town.
Me, hubby, kids, and 6 friends spent the week here. House is great. Everyone had their own space. And we could gather easily all together.
Castine is a quiet town, history and views to explore!
We did travel to Bar Harbor one day and Acadia another. Hour plus drive, but doable!
Really loved the house, and the owner was very communicative!
We had a great time staying in this house. Across the street from the golf course and a Maritime Academy. The lawn was perfect for teenage boys ball games. The bonus was the pool table for them as well. Comfortable home with all amenities. The town is absolutely charming with great places for delicious seafood. We would stay again.
Totally enjoyed our stay. Great location and loved the walking distances. David was great at communications and more than accommodating. The house was big enough for our family of 10. The kids loved the pool table. During rain, the house had a musty smell from the dampness, but when we opened the windows, all was cleared out.
The property was ready on time. It is located in a small town where you can walk to everything. There is plenty of room. We enjoyed the deck and pool table in the evenings. Close to Acadia. Nice kitchen. Beds were comfortable. All in all a nice place.
Four families came together to share this wonderful house. The town of Castine is perfect for a vacation getaway and this house provides the nice walk into town for dinner. Lots to see without crowds of vacationers. Everything you need in the house and in the town for a calm and relaxing visit. Highly recommended by all the family.

Stately home in a lovely, quiet summer town. Historians take note!
Castine has a picture-postcard town center with a classic New England feel. This house is at the center of it all, with a golf club across one street and the Maine Maritime Academy across the other. Quick walk to the marina with restaurants, library, churches, and Fort George, the site of the US Navy's biggest defeat until Pearl Harbor. In fact, Castine is full of signs detailing various elements of its history, which includes territorial control by French Canada, American colonies, the Dutch, and the British in a few short decades. If anything, what Castine needs is a visiting historian to source, verify, and stitch together all of these elements into a compelling book!
The house is very well designed; everywhere you turn there are thoughful elements -- both original details and benefits added by the owners. The downstairs bedroom is very amenable for handicapped guests (shower access the only question mark). Upstairs the bedrooms and bathrooms are well-appointed and well-spaced, so everyone feels like they have privacy. The kitchen is modern and well outfitted, with dishwasher, up-to-date microwave & stove, garbage disposal, etc. The washer and dryer are no afterthought; I would have loved to take them home with me.
One note about this 'quiet town': they are earlybirds at the golf course, which means that mowing of the tees can begin as early as 5AM. Also, in late summer the Academy's NROTC group begins training in the early morning, so you may hear group exercise and military cadences before you're ready for your coffee. There's also an occasional pick-up truck with louder than necessary tailpipes. But honestly, a peaceful, friendly, interesting place.

Family Celebration
Our family of 11 were celebrating our 50th anniversary. The house was fabulous and exceeded our expectations! David had everything and more at the house. There was so much room for everyone to have their own space. The kids absolutely loved the yard and spent so much time outside playing. Being from Florida, they were so excited to have a fort with canon, golf course across the street and a five minute drive to a great beach! We did a lot of relaxing and just chilling out. The town is very quaint, but there are some very nice restaurants, a cafe and amazing bakery! My husband and I went on a lovely sunset cruise. Our daughter and son-in- law went on the evening kayak tour which was amazing! There are so many places within an hour from the house. We spent a day in Acadia National Park. Enjoyed a day in Camden, as well. We would definitely come back. Thank you David!
Sincerely,
Cindy & Jeff

Will be back for sure!
This house was absolutely perfect! The kitchen had everything we needed and more, the layout was great for a family with elementary aged kids, and the yard and porch were perfect for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails with friends. It was also walking distance to everything in town and to the tennis courts and golf course. We can't wait to go back next summer!

ldyllic family home perfect for gathering of large families and/or friends.
We spent a week here with children, grandchildren and inlaws in mid June. If you desire a great place condusive to comfortably accommadating a large number of people for more than a day or two, this is the place for you. There are many areas of the house to have conversations, play games and sit on the porch. We brought our boat and took day trips to Belfast and Camden. There is also the golf course across the street with the laid back atmosphere of the Maine Coast as well as clay tennis courts. The owner was very accommadating and his mother is a local in the summer which means you have someone local to help if you run into problems. This home made our family gathering the most memborable one in many years.

Great family stay and will stay again at this property
This is my fourth year visiting Castine and I wanted my entire family to enjoy the same joy when I first visited this small coastal Maine village. Most of our family are both golfers and tennis players so the location of the house as noted in previous reviews is across the street. There are 4 hard tru courts in great shape and you can walk on and sign up just about any time. The living room is large and a great place to watch Wimbledon or hang out on a rainy day which did not happen to us in 2 weeks. There were 13 of us including 2 babies and we fit comfortably. There is a nice sun porch room that overlooks a good sized deck where we occasionally ate lunch or dinner. You can walk to this incredible restaurant called the wharf or to markels the bakery/restaurant. We spent a day at the tidal pool which is a mile away. The owners are nearby which I never called but good to know they are close.

Why they chose this property
My Mother and her partner have been a part of Castine for over 50 years.
What makes this property unique
Brand new and updated kitchen. Very well appointed home with all new furniture and historic pieces and rugs. Across the street from golf and tennis courts. Tons of sun and outdoor living. Two blocks from some of the best lobster rolls in all of Maine.
