Black Bear Vacation

Property was great for the six of us (3 kids, 3 adults). Kids built a little snowman and went sledding on back of property. Proximity to Beaver Meadows for tubing and ice skating was a big plus. The house was great. Excellent layout and very comfortable for making dinner, doing puzzles and playing cards. We plan on a repeat visit.

A Charming Throwback

My husband and I affectionately renamed Black Bear Hollow, the 70’s Throwback. Although the property is a bit dated, it was charming. We particularly liked that the bedrooms were on opposite sides of the house, and we enjoyed time in the den and in front of the fireplace. The property is in a secluded and quiet area. Our only issue was with the kitchen. I had to clean a previous food spill out of the refrigerator, as well as dirt in the top of the oven, dishwasher, and the drawer at the sink. It would be very helpful if a complete, matching set of flatware was provided in the kitchen, especially since we weee there for Thanksgiving. These issues are easy fixes, and since the hosts are very responsive, I’m sure this will change. I would still recommend Black Bear Hollow and consider returning to this property.

Family

The listing wasnt quite accurate. There is no hottub. Also i feel that it should be stated that there cant be a fire. The hosts were able to communicate easily so that was helpful. There was also only 2 trash bags. So it was hard to take the trash out. We also found trash from previous stays... land is pretty and area is peaceful. Overall it was a good stay.

Comfortable house

Great communication by property owner. It’s a comfy house even though it is older and not updated. Nice feeling of privacy with deer outside in the wooded area. Furniture and beds very comfortable. Needs a good deep clean of cobwebs and clearing out old scratched Teflon pans. Dishwasher not working during our stay - perhaps that has been fixed. Overall it was a nice stay.

About the host

Hosted by Dianne & Mike

Host profile image
Hi! We are Dianne & Mike and we are so happy and deeply grateful to have Black Bear Hollow and the ability to share this fantastic home and peaceful location with our guests.

Why they chose this property

The tranquility of the trails through the forest (for hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, trail riding) are spectacular. It's a wonderful property that is so close to the forest trails with a feeling of seclusion & privacy--yet close enough to the village of Red Feathers and Beaver Meadows Resort to be convenient for restaurants, gas & groceries etc.

What makes this property unique

We love this home because we can go straight from the property to 25 miles of trails in the Roosevelt National Forest. The trails are great for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing!

Plus it's close and convenient to Lady Moon, Mount Margaret, Lone Pine and many more trail heads also!

The views of wildlife from the home are absolutely breathtaking and we never tire of looking out and seeing the moose & deer visiting and grazing on the grass (and the aspen buds in the spring!).

In the summer, the aspen grove that Black Bear Hollow is nestled in just explodes! The aspens leaf out and columbines & other wildflowers are abundant all around the home--it is incredible!

In the fall, the gorgeous aspens turn a beautiful gold and watching the leaves fall from the deck is one of our favorite things to do--very relaxing after a day of hiking or horseback riding.

In the winter, the snow on the pine trees with the sun glistening on the branches are magical....mother nature's Christmas lights. We love snowshoeing on the trails in the winter, and coming back to the cabin to warm up with hot cocoa & the awesome fireplace!

Overall the peace & quiet of this location, the wildlife, and proximity to the trails are the huge draws of this property. We love being in the mountains--where our neighbors are mostly deer, moose, elk, black bears, marmots, eagles, hummingbirds, grouse, wild turkeys and so much more.

Getting to reconnect with nature & getting away from concrete, stress of cities, traffic, noise, neon signs & crowds. We love BBH for decompressing & reconnecting with nature, trees, wildflowers, & the abundance of lakes, rivers & mountains to explore in Northern Colorado with Black Bear Hollow as base camp is simply perfect!
