Don't stay anywhere else

James has done a terrific job with this house. It has plenty of room for a couple or a couple with 2-3 children. Contrary to past reports we did have AT&T cell service part of the time. The place was super clean and well furnished. There is no television and that is a big plus. Views out of each side of house were great, and unbelievable. It is close to three of the entrances on the east side of Glacier Park. I cannot see any reason to stay anywhere else when visiting the east side of Glacier National Park. You have an entire furnished house for less than a hotel room in the area. The only negative is that James' description of the drive way is a little on the mild side It is an adventure in itself. But that helps keep it private. James, we really enjoyed out days out there. Thanks!

Secluded cabin close to Glacier

We absolutely loved this cabin and the owner James who has put so much work into the place. The cabin worked well for our family of 4 with the two kids sleeping in the sunroom on the futon and extra rollaway bed. The kids loved James' pet goat and cat who would come to the deck for treats. The picture windows everywhere gave great views and the electric fireplace in the bathroom was much appreciated. The house was so well stocked with everything we could possibly need. It was an easy drive to Two Medicine and St Mary entrances to the Park, a little further to Many Glacier, but well worth it for wildlife viewing. We found bear scat on the trail behind the cabin, but never did see it! Maybe next time!

Gorgeous area

The area is beautiful. James has outfitted the house extremely well so I had everything I needed for cooking (we made all of our meals.) The driveway is worse than I had imagined and we are used to driving pretty bad roads and have a 4WD big pickup truck. James is lovely.

Beautiful!

Will definitely be returning to this fabulous cabin in a gorgeous location. I loved all the little things like games to play, a piano, Movies to watch, books to read, outdoors necessities like bear spray that were provided. The cabin was comfortable, cozy, and clean. Could not have asked for more.

Little piece of heaven

This property is a little piece of heaven. It’s a perfect ending to a day in Glacier. James is the perfect host-the cabin has everything from a fully stocked kitchen to full size washer and dryer. The views are amazing from every window in the house and we saw deer and moose daily. We will definitely return!! Lots of peace and solitude!!

Nice place to stay, but beware of the driveway leading to the property.

I did not appreciate James’s lack of clear communication regarding the driveway leading 1/2 mile up to the property. Especially; considering I was traveling with my 8-year old daughter and we arrived after dark expecting to be able to drive up to the house at 8:30 pm, only to suddenly realize that the driveway is not suitable for a Toyota Prius. Sadly though, there was no mention of it in the ad or in any email communication between us, because I double checked these facts upon arrival thinking I had misread either the ad or email. The only mention was in an email that stated “Rutted Gravel Road.” I have driven on rutted gravel roads in my life and the driveway is a cow pasture which requires a High Level Vehicle. Because I wanted a full refund he attempted to come up with solutions, via cell phone to help us and to avoid providing a refund. Regrettably, there was no solution to be found at 8:30 pm at night; nor was he willing to issue any refunds so I could secure better housing for my daughter and I. Consequently, my daughter and were able to very slowly and carefully drive about 1/4 mile in and then walked the last 1/4 mile into the property around 10:30 pm. Now, what hurts and angers me as a parent is that my daughter was terrified because we were walking in total darkness at 10:30 pm to a house that we hoped was the right location in the middle of Glacier. Unfortunately, the flash light on a cell phone doesn’t do much to illuminate a darkened night. Then, after arriving to the house, I made several additional trips, back to the car, hauling our belongings to the house so my daughter and I could get ready for bed which was around 12:30 am. Then the next day, James texted me and allowed me to use his four wheel drive pickup so I could bring the remaining items to the house. But during the 6 day stay we walked back and forth to the car whenever we traveled from the property due to the truck no longer working. Finally, when an issue such as this occurs, VRBO will not intervene and assist with a refund, nor are they willing to assist in finding a place to sleep in case of an emergency such as this. The customer service representative said, “It is between you and the owner. There is nothing that we can do.” And his decision not to assist that night made a bad situation even worse. And their book with confidence guarantee is really a joke as well; consequently, it is a renter beware arrangement

This beautiful cabin was so clean and had everything we could possibly need for our stay. The view is amazing and we loved the seclusion. Close to Glacier National Park's East entrance, makes it the perfect base location. James is amazing to work with and shared all kinds of helpful tips! Best Homeaway rental experience we've had!

Great location, great for families

Stayed 6 nights in July, 2019 with 3 adults, 16yo, 12yo, and 10yo very comfortably. Well stocked with all needed amenities, very convenient washer and dryer. My kids functioned as dishwashers. There is spotty cell service and no WiFi, so don’t plan to work on vacation. James was very responsive before and during the stay, with good recommendations for hikes, shortcuts, and wildlife. Great location for the east side of GNP. Two Medicine ~ 20 min St Mary ~ 35 min Logan Pass - 1hr 15 min Many Glacier ~ 1hr (via Browning) West Glacier ~ 2hr 15 min None of these drives felt very long because of the amazing scenery. House itself was comfortable without AC in the evening (we weren’t there during the day; out enjoying the park). Overnight was chilly with the windows open. Warm blankets/linens provided. Beautiful views from all windows; keep the lights off when using the bathroom overnight for a great view of stars! Location felt safe and secure, in the middle of a beautiful meadow, with the owner’s home close, but hidden by trees. The driveway is accurately described in other reviews; difficult to navigate; this can be fun if you’ve got the right attitude, but does add on some travel time. Overall, a wonderful rental in a magnificent location. We feel lucky to have found it, and plan to come back!

Amazing views!

We loved our stay at the cabin. The views from every window were spectacular! We enjoyed watching the prairie dogs and were hoping to see bear and moose. We did catch a glimpse of a moose the last night of our stay! The driveway to the cabin is really rough! You need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to the cabin. James has the cabin stocked with everything you might need!!! From binoculars to bear spray to a well equipped kitchen!!! Loved being able to have our dogs stay. They loved roaming around the property. The cabin is very seclude which is what we were looking for and only about a 30 minute drive to Glacier. A wonderful place to stay while visiting Glacier.

Clean and beautiful!

We loved our stay at the cabin near East Glacier. It was close to the east side of the park, so we didn't waste any time driving places. The view was spectacular! We hiked to the hills above the cabin, and we could see for miles. We woke up to two moose in our front yard one day! Everything that we may have needed was readily available. We loved our stay and would love to go back some day!

We loved the nature and quiet! James is a great host!

In the middle of nature, with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. James was available for every little question we had. What a great responsive host. Very close to st. Mary entrance and all of east glacier. We had a wonderful time and although we didn’t see any moose or bison at the house we did elsewhere. The hike to the top of the hill was fun!

Hard to leave!

My family fell in love with this place! Owner communicates well and is very generous and thoughtful. He let my parents use an old truck to get past the driveway (they drive a Chevy Malibu, our Toyota Highlander was fine, just very bumpy, if we went very slowly). We really appreciated how James went above and beyond! As for the cabin...my kids, parents, husband and I all loved it. The views are gorgeous. The cabin was very clean. Plenty of towels, linens, soap, and toilet paper. LOVED having a washer and dryer and took advantage of that. Most of us trekked up the hill on the property several times. We took binoculars and *think* we saw a grizzly bear but are not positive. Bear or no bear, the hill is cool and a great place to look for wildlife. My kids named the hill, Hilbert. :) We did find clear bear tracks by the cabin the size of a women’s size 9 hiking boot. We visited East Glacier daily and saw 8 moose in all. Loved East Glacier even more than West because there were far fewer people when we were there. Thanks for the awesome experience, I would love to come back!

Outstanding Lodging at the Doorstep to Glacier!

My wife, parents, and I stayed "In the Midst of Glacier" for 5 nights in September 2018. The location proved to be perfect for us to explore the many wonderful areas on the eastern side of Glacier National Park. There was significant construction in the immediate vicinity of Kiowa Junction that caused 1-20 minute delays, obviously out of control of the owner. The road back to the cabin is nearly 1 mile and very bumpy but passable in about 4-5 minutes from the highway. Now to the really good stuff - the cabin is just really nice and fitting for a stay in Montana. It has a rustic quality to it while being very modern and upkept. We literally did not see a bug the entire stay. We never lacked hot water for showers, and water pressure and quality was excellent. The cabin's many windows make for a beautiful setting, with hills and mountains surrounding the field. We observed moose on 3 out of 5 mornings in the field right outside the cabin. Be careful of holes in the field, as squirrels, badgers, and other animals burrow in the area. There were also plenty of cows to greet us most days. The sleeping arrangements were very nice. The coffee pot did not work when we arrived, but the owner was quick to replace it for us to enjoy the rest of our stay. The cabin was comfortable at night with provision of several space heaters. The night sky was truly spectacular as well - even just laying on the sofabed in the sunroom, we were able to see stars and the Milky Way - beautiful! This really is a great option for staying on the east side, as long as you don't mind the ~5 minute drive along bumpy road from the highway. It was only about 20 minutes to Cutbank, 30 minutes to Two Medicine, 35 minutes to St. Mary, and 1 hour 15 minutes to Many Glacier or Logan Pass. This will certainly be a lodging consideration for future trips to the park, and we highly recommend considering it for your stay as well!

Peacefulness close to Glacier

The cabin was very nice, very clean. James has thought of everything we could need throughout the cabin. The kitchen was full of pots and pans to prepare our meals, enough dishes, coffee mugs and silverware. In my opinion the bathroom had the best window to look out at Glacier, as well as it having a wonderful hot shower to use after our hikes. We enjoyed being close enough to East Glacier Village, Two Medicine, and St. Mary's. James gave us such great recommendations for hikes, places to eat, and had extra maps, bear spray, etc for our hiking trips. We also enjoyed watching the cattle graze around the cabin, walking to the hill behind the cabin to watch sunsets, and looking for other wildlife that might be roaming through the property. I was able to get some great photos of the Milky Way since we are away from any city lights. I appreciate the long driveway to be away from everything but its ruts, bumps, and dips became tiring. Overall it was a great stay.

Wonderful!

We loved our stay. The views were wonderful and we felt so at peace there. We saw a moose, deer, different types of birds, and even had cows sleeping in the backyard when we woke one morning. Besides for our wonderful stay, James was awesome from my first email to him and always quick to answer my many questions. We would definitely stay there again.

About the host

Hosted by James Latyszewski

Host profile image
I was born and raised in Michigan. When I was young I traveled to Yosemite, California and was blown away by the mountains, waterfalls and wildlife. Ever since, I have spent all of my summers near national parks like Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier, Arches, Acadia and Mesa Verde. In the wintertime I enjoy living in exotic tropical locations.

Why they chose this property

This property has an amazing view of the mountains and is centrally located to all four east side entrances into Glacier National Park. It is also conveniently located between St. Mary, Browning and East Glacier. Out of all the places I've lived and visited, this is the most tranquil, peaceful and relaxing.

What makes this property unique

Some benefits for staying here are:
You will not hear cars on the road or trains passing nearby, like in town.
You will hear great horned owls, frogs and coyote.
You will not smell trash and see roaming dogs like in town.
You will smell fresh, clean air and possibly see one of the friendly neighbors.
You will not see buildings or many people, just nature. You will have your own private area.
You will constantly have an ever changing 360 degree panoramic view of the horizon. The clouds and colorful skies are astounding with the mountains in view, especially during sunrise and sunset. The nights are particularly peaceful and unique with the cloud-like Milky Way overhead and minimal light pollution.
Any night you can watch shooting stars and occasionally see the Aurora Borealis.
Moose, deer, rabbits, pine martens and squirrels are commonly seen in the yard. Once in a while you'll see bears, wolves and mountain lions.
It is a fantastic place to bird watch. Eagles, hawks, osprey, great horned owls, swallows, mountain blue birds and humming birds are frequently seen.
There is great drinking water from a 150' deep well that is feed by an aquifer straight out of Glacier National Park.
