About this property

Sharkalope 6 bd/3 ba, Hot Tub, Oceanfront, Arcade

Remodeled Ocean Front home originally built in 1925, located on the beach directly in front of the Twin Rocks. 6 bedrooms, 3 baths, Hot tub, arcade, large yard.

This home is ocean front! Just walk through the front yard and you'll be at the beach in 30 seconds!

Sharkalope:

Beach, hot tub and retro arcade… need we say more? Our home is a large Oceanfront home originally built in 1925 that sits on a 1/2 acre oceanfront parcel directly in front of the Twin Rocks. We have a large yard and path which connects the house directly to the beach. There are great views of the Twin Rocks from house and the deck, or get closer and hang out on picnic table overlooking the beach. We have a hot tub off the deck and a retro arcade in the basement, with Skeeball, pop-a-shot and retro arcade games.

The 3-level house was remodeled in 2014, but we kept much of the original 1920’s beach house charm. The main house is on the top 2 levels with 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, full kitchen, TV room and great room (living/dining). The lower level apartment has 2 more bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a kitchenette, plus the arcade. The house has a total of 6 bedrooms and 3 baths and sleeps up to 16 people.

Upstairs, on the top floor, there are 2 large bedrooms each with a king bed. The east room has a view of the mountains and west room has a great view of the ocean and Twin Rocks. The 2 upstairs bedrooms also have queen size beds that can be pulled out from under the main beds to sleep additional people. The top floor also has a full bathroom and a TV room.

The main floor has small vintage kitchen, a bathroom with a clawfoot tub and two smaller bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with twin bunk beds. The main floor also has a great room with a large dining table and a living area where everyone can gather around the wood stove and play games or watch the waves crash on the Twin Rocks.

The lower level apartment has two small bedrooms, each with a queen bed, plus a kitchenette with a small dining table. The apartment has a separate outside entrance on the east side of the house, or can be accessed from the main house through an interior door on the lower level arcade room.

Outside the main house front door, facing the ocean and Twin Rocks, is a deck and a hot tub and a private path through our yard leads about 200 feet to a very quiet section of the beach right in front of the Twin Rocks.

The basement has a retro arcade game room. Games will vary and may include Skee Ball, vintage pinball machine, shuffleboard, air hockey, pop-a-shot two player basketball game, Donkey Kong multicade (with 60 games including Pac Man, Dig Dug and many more) and Area 51 2-person shooting game. All games are set for free play, so no need to bring quarters. Please note that some arcade games may not be operational during your stay, these are older games that sometimes break and we can't always fix them right away.

There is plenty of parking, with enough room for about 6 cars.

Spring Break family trip

Grandparents, parents, and cousins alike enjoyed all the house had to share. Kids loved the quick beach access on the sunny day, arcade and board games during the rain and/or evening. Accommodations were as expected, nicely sized, and provided space for quiet time as well as family time.

Vacay

We had a great time. All arcades and hot tub were working. All the pots and pans you could ever want. Very clean and organized other than a few ants here and there. Only downside is no ocean view from the main living spaces and the kitchen was small and not open to the living room/dining area. Also can hear everything through the whole house which is to be expected in an older home. We had a really good time though! So fun.

Our 19th Annual Rockaway Adventure

We loved the house itself. It's an older house. The kitchen was a little small but we made it all work. Well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. The beds were all comfortable. No complaints; which in our experience isn't usually the case. Check out was easy. We mostly utilized the deck. Hot tub worked great too! Loved the ease of walking to the beach from the house.

Sharkalope House

It was adequate. It had a old quaintness about it. The gathering area is very small with uncomfortable furniture and a couch with a broken back. We couldn't all fit around the table so some of us were eating in the small living room area or outside for meals. The kitchen is very small and not much space to store food. Tiny counter to prep food. The washing machine was great. Probably good as an extra house for the owner but not so much as a rental.

Great location

Overall it is a great house for a big group. The kitchen is small but we made do. The game room was fun for the younger generation. The best part was the access to the beach. The hot tub was wonderful but trying to keep sand out of it was a challenge. I would recommend a way to hose off closer to the hot tub.

Hooper/James Memorial Day Beach trip

The Sharkalope home has a lot of character. It is a charming older beach house with plenty of room for the whole family. I traveled with my 93 year old mother and with only 5 steps to get in and main living on that floor Keith comfortably for her. My adult children and their kids came for a total of 11 for the stay. The arcade room was great fun, especially on drizzly days. The trail to the beach was too narrow and difficult for my mother but it was a short walk for the rest of us and we made so many trips to the beach. Our trip was so much fun and we made wonderful. The hot tub was a nice way to wrap up the days. Rockaway was a fun town to visit. The rest of our family was in a different house. But it was easy to meet up and enjoy the beach together. We lived our stay at Sharkalope.

Love Sharkalope!!

Such a wonderful, peaceful and happy place. Hard to believe this is a 1925 home as everything is so put together. Perfect blend of sleeping and getting together space. We had 5 in kitchen and we all fit. The spa was an added bonus with the younger group. Having the games in the bedroom and downstairs was enjoyed by all. We will be back!

Fun times!

We had a wonderful time together and what amazing weather at the end of December! It was so warm and sunny on the beach. This house has Great, easy beach access. (No rickety, dangerous steps to climb on). Just walk straight out on a little path and there you are. Super helpful and responsive hosts. And that arcade downstairs is so much fun.

Holiday Perfect!

3 Families (6 parents, 2 adult kids, and a teenager) filled the house. There are 10 chairs for the dining table, but there is space for more. Kitchen seemed small, but it worked We did a full Christmas dinner and didn't feel challenged. The proximity to the beach makes this a wonderful place to stay if you like watching the tide come in with your coffee. One day, we had a high tide warning, and the water was splashing up on the beach right at our feet (about 200 feet from the house). The park bench near the beach is perfectly located. The game room is a nice touch, and several of the adults found games they loved. Shuffleboard was a WIN. The only downside is television. If your group has sports people, you'll be wanting something bigger for your tv viewing. Personally, it's not a problem, as I don't care for sports. I'm looking forward to our next trip to Sharkalope!

Not happy

Did not stay at Sharkalope since that property was switched due to "double booked" to Crabalope (why don't you know this VRBO?)and although I insisted that the property needed to be wheelchair accessible, and told the host in ALL communications that we needed accessibility, it WAS NOT accessible, in any way, shape or form. Imagine our surprise when we pulled up to the property and the ONLY access was up 10 steep stairs. The bathrooms are tiny, another issue for wheelchairs. There are no railings on the deck(s) and the stairs between the levels/heights on decks are definitely not up to code - it's a miracle someone didn't fall and seriously injure themselves.....and give me a break, "30 seconds to the beach"?!, even a young, able bodied human couldn't make it to the beach in 30 seconds if they sprinted at full speed. The shenanigans between booking through VRBO but payments and communications with StayInRockaway, a completely different company, didn't help. The homes were clean and comfortable enough and the sunsets and weather while we were there were excellent but.... We made the best of it, that's what we do, the Oregon Coast is a magical place.

We live in Portland and love to travel to the coast or the mountains when we can.

Why they chose this property

This property is absolutely amazing! On a quarter acre of oceanfront land, it has a direct view of Twin Rocks and Rockaway's 7 mile beach.

Our home was originally built in the 20's and has gone through a few transformations from hotel, to home, to bed and breakfast and back to a home again it has a ton of character. We bought and remodeled the house, leaving the hardwood floors and awesome (but updated) vintage kitchen.

What makes this property unique

We've got an amazing view of the beach and Twin Rocks, a hot tub, an arcade and a ton of space for fun, food and family.
