About this property

Lovely Private Waterfront Cottage

This lovely, quaint, self contained cottage is nestled on a partially treed, south sloping half acre.
Views from the cottage are to the south over a beautiful bird sanctuary lagoon, and east over Juan de Fuca Straight. A short walk down a treed lane takes you to the sandy log covered beach where you can walk for miles.

Beachwood cottage is fully furnished, impeccably clean, independent accommodation, with full kitchen and bathroom facilities. The 750 square foot cottage is the only dwelling on the property. It offers one bedroom with french doors opening to the private yard. A daybed located in the front room can sleep an extra guest, or is simply a lovely place for an afternoon nap.

The cottage, originally built in the 1920s, and partially upgraded recently, is nestled on a secluded South sloping half acre of waterfront property, conveniently located just 15 kilometres from downtown Victoria. Whether you are sitting on the dock enjoying the sunrise, lounging in the cozy front living room watching the birdlife, or relaxing in the adarondak chairs on the front lawn; every aspect of the cottage is close to nature and provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the very best of what the unspoiled beautiful West Coast of British Columbia has to offer. Watch a tremendous array of wildlife, including resident swans nesting on the lagoon shore, river otters eating their crab dinner on the dock, and even the occasional whale passing in the distance.

The peaceful and serene lagoon is a designated bird sanctuary which is host to a vast variety of bird species including eagles, blue herons, king fishers, with seasonal visits from osprey, bufflehead ducks and so many more.

Relaxing and Beautiful Get-Away

We wanted to stay in one place during our two week vacation this year because in past years we have stayed in multiple rentals wanting to widen our touring options. Having two weeks in one location meant we could explore more of this beautiful island and come back to a retreat We ate most meals outside with the spectacular view. We only ate out at restaurants a few times, opting instead to buy special ingredients and eat at the cottage since there wasn't a restaurant with as nice a setting as this cottage. There are plenty of interesting things to see in the lower Vancouver Island area. We went to Butchart Gardens, the Victoria Butterfly Garden, the Provincial Museum, a local farmer's market, and an art show in Sooke. This place was just what we were looking for. Jeannie's Beach House is very quiet and secluded with the only sounds being geese coming and going and a pair of Trumpeter Swans who claim the Albert Lagoon home. There are a couple of Eagles here as well. The house was immaculately clean and well stocked with everything we needed. There was also a vegetable garden space where Jeannie said we could help ourselves. We were able to have fresh zucchini, tomatoes, and a variety of herbs. There would be more things at different times of the year. Jeannie has a large selection of books to satisfy any book worms needs. Jeannie is a super host, being available for communication whenever we called her. She left us to our privacy and was very friendly to talk with.

Island retreat without having to leave VI

We stayed here while work was being done on our house, so we were only 7 minutes away from home, but we felt like we were miles away. It felt like going to a small island without the travel. This cottage is so comfortable, we instantly felt at home. Many rental places feel like rentals, with few homey touches, but this felt like a home. Nice artwork, a good selection of books, a well appointed kitchen, comfortable furniture, wood stove, just made us feel at home. That is all looking inward, but honestly you can spend hours looking at the view of the lagoon and ocean, watching the the birds and wildlife. We were here in November and had all kinds of weather, but it was all great for nature watching in a very quiet area. No traffic or neighbour noise at all. Lots of hikes, riding areas, and paddling nearby. Shopping of all sorts is close whether it is for groceries, farmer's markets, local artisans, and downtown Victoria is close for all that it offers too. I would not hesitate to recommend this stay. It is well suited to a couple or a single person. If I have friends or family come to visit that won't fit in my home, this is where I will suggest they come. Absolutely delightful!

Beyond our greatest expectations!

This cottage is amazing! It is well located to visit different parts of the island, peaceful and with an ocean view, beautifully furnished and decorated with many special "touches", set in a pleasant yard with patios , a fire pit, flower gardens, fruit trees...a wonderful retreat if you choose to do nothing else but relax here. The owner/host is gracious and most helpful. The directions and check in instructions were clear and easy to follow. Upon our arrival we found fresh cut flowers, wine, and a bowl of fruit awaiting us. We felt as though we were honored guests!

A little piece of paradise

I stayed at Jeannie's cottage for a week and loved it. The setting is amazing. Beautiful gardens, the Lagoon and wildlife all around. I fell asleep to the sound of owls hooting and awoke to a chorus of birds singing. The cottage is cozy and well equipped with everything you'd need for your stay and even has a telescope. With so many windows everywhere you have views from every room and really feel like you are part of the natural surroundings. The bed was super comfortable and I took full advantage of the heavenly outdoor shower. The cottage is well situated to explore the south shore of Vancouver Island and I was never at a loss for things to do. While I ate in most nights, Victoria was less than half an hour away and the My Chosen Cafe and Six Mile Pub where good options nearby. Jeannie was a wonderful host who was readily available and really cares about her guests comfort. I did not want to leave and hope I am able to visit again.

Peaceful cottage, quiet, scenic and close to town

Tucked away in the trees, this is a gem of a property. The wildlife in the lagoon, on the beach and views of the marine traffic all contribute to a peaceful location. We enjoyed the patio overlooking the lagoon, and enjoyed the wood-burning stove on the cool nights. The garden and landscaping are lush and nicely maintained. The kitchen is nicely appointed, including a hot-water kettle, coffee maker and plenty of unique glassware. The bedroom is spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was cozy and clean, and the heated tile floor is a bonus. The owner has an extensive collection of books on a variety of subjects. We enjoyed every day there, and look forward to returning.

Quiet, Relaxing,Nice View,Clean...Clean...Clean

Can't go wrong with this vacation cottage. Off the beaten path yet close to anything on the SW part of the Island. Near Metchosin and Langdon both with fine restaurants. Need not go into Victoria for dining unless you want to, only about a 20 min drive. Make sure you visit Sidney about 40 minutes North. Spent 2 weeks in late July...hot, hot, hot but the air conditioner took care of the inside. Can watch the big ships go by through the telescope provided. Near shopping center and Canadian Super Store. Within walking distance of long graveled beach. Sand at Willow Beach. Enjoyed our stay and would rent again.

Magical cottage in Metchosin

Beachwood Cottage is a magical little place! The cottage is very warm and welcoming and Jeannie is wonderful! Spacious bedroom with lots and lots of bedding and French doors that look out into the garden. There are views from any window you choose to look out of. We had morning coffee on the side patio every day and were lucky enough to be visited by a pair of raccoons! There are spots to sit all over the property and enjoy the beautiful yard and garden. We were invited by Jeannie to pick any veg in the garden which was so lovely. For the adventurous there is even a private outdoor shower. The only thing we did not take advantage of was the kayaks that are available with the cottage. The stairs down to the dock were a bit steep for someone with mobility issues. Otherwise it was a perfect, blissful week. I recommend it highly.

Perfect summer cottage for two

Lovely cottage with everything that a couple on holiday would need in a great location, overlooking a peaceful lagoon, and easy for day trips to other places on southern Vancouver Island. Experienced owner who has thought about what her visitors might need to enjoy their stay. Highly recommend for two adults seeking a week away, to go on walks, or day trips by car.

Like in a fairytale

Our stay at Jeannie's cottage was so perfect that I am afraid I might not be able to find the right words or mention all the details she has taken care of. She was a great host who provided us with everything we could have asked for and even more, like a very late arrival, recommendations for day trips etc. The cottage was very clean, very tastefully decorated, and we were not missing anything. We enjoyed the huge garden with view to the lagoon (otters, eagles, herons ...) and the sea (seals and ships of every kind) most. When we were "at home" we had all our meals outside and having a lot of space for the little one to run around was awesome. Apart from that we also enjoyed regular visits by hummingbirds, quails, and deer, and the short walk to the sea with a lot of stones to throw into the water and trees for balancing for our 3-year old. The location was perfect for trips to Victoria and various regional and provincial parks. We have been to different places nearby every day which were all awesome but still feel that we only scratched the surface. We would love to be back one day! Thank you so much for this most amazing vacation, Jeannie!!

Clean, comfortable, cozy, quiet.

From the moment of our arrival we knew we had found a special place. From the quirky coziness of the cottage and the wonderful view to the cacophony of birdsong in the gardens. Jeannie has thought of everything in the cottage, everything we needed was there. We enjoyed a fire in the woodstove each night. Lighting was exactly where it was needed when reading. The beds.....oh so comfortable. There is plenty of extra bedding and also lots of towels. The washer and dryer came in handy after a very muddy walk in the woods. Walk the beach, very therapeutic. We loved our stay, can't wait to return.

Beautiful spot!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Beachwood Cottage stay from the moment we arrived until we reluctantly departed. Jeannie made us feel very welcome & was very gracious to allow us some flexibility on our arrival & departure. Loved watching the birds, particularly our little quail friends, long walks, nice music selection, comfy bed all greatly appreciated! We'll be back if at all possible.

Beautiful, quaint and peaceful!

This cottage was perfect for the two of us. Just outside of Victoria, so you could drive into the city, or elsewhere around the island and come back to this peaceful spot. Jeannie left crackers, cheese, grapes, , chocolate and fresh flowers. Everything we needed was there. The binoculars and the telescope were great to have, to see the ships out at sea. Loved every minute of it. You won't be disappointed if you book here for a week.

Cozy & Character

This is a perfect cabin for two. We loved the old feel character. This cabin has a wrap around view of the yard, the lagoon and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. There was a constant live view of bald eagles, blue herons, cranes, cormorants, california quails (if you sit quietly in your chair, they will sit with you in the morning!), rabbits and a large variety of ducks. We also saw many harbour seals in the Strait. The telescope was a great tool to view all of this up close. So many views, so many places to sit inside and out to enjoy. We loved the day bed, the heated bathroom floor, the very comfy bed, the telescope, the fireplace, firepit and how clean the whole cabin was. All the amenities necessary, were at hand. We were also impressed with the constant calm and quiet surroundings. This was everything we had hoped for. Very much recommended. Merci for everything, Jeannie,

Beachwood Cottage Victoria

Host Jeannie is a most gracious and helpful person. We did not meet personally, but she had the cottage set for a warm welcome. There was nice music playing, fruit, cheese and crackers and yummy chocolate bar awaiting us. She also had 2 bouquets of fresh flowers from her many gardens, one in bathroom and one in kitchen. The cottage itself has everything one needs. It does need some repairs on the steps to the lagoon, but all in the house was in good working order. The kitchen is fully functional with many staple items provided. The bedroom is spacious with French doors leading out to the yard. The neighborhood is very quiet sand there is many birds over the lagoon. We had frequent deer visits and even saw a search and rescue training over the water. You will find the cottage cozy, quiet and surrounded by woods and water. Enjoy!!

Great location to relax!

My husband and I totally enjoyed our stay at this quaint cottage! We did get to enjoy the visits with the wildlife in the area (swans, deer, otters, ducks, seals, birds). My husband's favorite spot for his morning coffee was on the dock and visiting with the swans, ducks and otters. We were able to enjoy the pears, apples and grapes that grow on the property (thanks Jeannie). We did enjoy the local Farmers Market at Metchosin on a Sunday. Enjoyed the vendors, food and music! Also enjoyed meals at My Chosen Café and My Chosen Pizza in Metchosin during our stay. Of course, we toured around in Victoria and Sidney. Lots of great eating places, walking trails, etc. to see. Thanks, Jeannie, for a wonderful place to stay and for the personal touches in the cottage. You are a fantastic hostess! I do recommend this accommodation, even though that may mean it may be booked up when we want it next!

Wow! Everything and more...

We loved, loved, loved our time at Beachwood Cottage. The cottage is in a picture-perfect location away from the hustle and bustle of Victoria. It was the perfect place to come home to each night after exploring the area. We saw the otters, raccoon, an eagle, lots of other birds, and enjoyed going kayaking on the lagoon. We would come back in a heartbeat. The cottage is decorated beautifully, with so much attention to detail. The owner is quick to communicate and obviously is invested in making your stay a pleasant one. We highly recommend this cottage, the location, and honestly, you won't be able to find any place that would make you feel more welcome and at home. The bedding is marvelous - deep and restful sleep every single night.

SWEET

The cottage is in reality just as sweet as it looks online. Maybe even more so. We loved our week there, will be back anytime we can. So conveniently close to Victoria and yet removed. It is very well stocked with books, music or whatever else you need. Used the telescope to check out ships from all over the world. Walked the beach and listened to the waves. Great away from stress place!

Incredibly Cozy Cottage with an Amazing Coastal Setting

Wow, my wife and I were very impressed, this place exceeded the description and can't wait to go back. This cozy cottage (wonderful decor, nice touches of fresh bouquet of flowers and treats) really makes you feel nestled along the coast with awesome views, right on the waterfront, TONS of wildlife (eagles, swans, geese, many ducks), and can take out the owners kayaks for a calm paddle only seconds from the front door. The owner was extremely accommodating and very nice, thanks so much! This place reflects the pride and love the owner has for the property, thanks so much!

A True Gem

My friend and I recently spent a wonderful week at this quaint cottage. We found it to be everything we had hoped it would be for our vacation to Victoria. The well appointed cottage is comfortable and clean and located close enough to amenities to be handy, yet has a remote and rural feeling about it. I enjoyed the winter sunrises and morning walks on the beach. There really is an abundance of bird life around and we were even lucky enough to watch the otters on the little dock. Great selection of books and even a telescope to watch the wildlife and the offshore traffic. I would recommend this unique little gem to anyone!

Such A Beautiful Little Gem

As we entered the cottage we were greeted with soft music, fruit, cheese and chocolate. That was only the beginning of discovering this little gem of a place. Mornings on the patio with coffee, enjoying the quiet peaceful nature. Afternoons picking fresh greens from Jeannie's garden for our dinner. Evenings spent relaxing taking in the incredible view. Pride of ownership is apparent. Close to many attractions to enjoy. Really looking forward to returning.
