Yucatan offers many activities
This house is adorable. Furnished nicely with good, bright colors.
It is a great location, being only blocks from the beach and walking distance to restaurants, etc.
I had two serious issues. The first was the WiFi which was a disaster. I verified that the house had "reliable" internet as I had to work during the month I was in Mexico. Unfortunately, it did not work AT ALL which resulted in huge air time charges for my work and substantial frustration. The internet cafes were closed as it was winter and I had no choice but to incur the airtime expense. While you can buy limited service, the magnitude of what I needed resulted in a substantial expense.
I also had an issue with the air conditioning not working and it was not repaired. I left three days early and went to a hotel to get air conditioning and internet.
Progresso is a very sleepy town during the winter. In restaurants there would be only two or three other tables filled. The wind whips off the Gulf of Mexico, churns up the water and washes in sea weed which makes any attempt at swimming yucky! There are so many things to do within a relatively short distance it was ok but I was disappointed about not being able to swim. There are Mayan ruins all over the Yucatan. It is less than 20 minutes to Merida, a major city. It is about 2 hours to Campeche. In addition to the ruins, there are also many historic churches, cenotes for swimming, a couple of good museums in Merida.
But,you are not getting a winter beach vacation in the winter.
One additional thing. We were there for carnival which was great. Saturday and Sunday nights there were fabulous banks outside and everyone was dancing and having a great time.
