August retreat

The house is rustic and brought back many fun childhood memories. It has all you need to enjoy. The lake is walking distance from the house, it is a bit if a steep decline and very slippery and Rocky to enter but it is beautiful. Neighborhood is quiet, friendly. The cabin is close to shopping, dining. We had a fun time.

Vermont Summer Cottage in June

This a great cottage with a large yard and easy access to Lake Champlain. The décor is very unique and tastefully done. The kayaks and croquet sets are a nice benefit. Nancy the property manager did a wonderful job getting the cottage ready for our stay. Communication with Linda, the Owner, was great and her responses were always prompt. This is a great place to unplug and relax.

Quiet cabin perfect for summer

Great place to get away in a nearly traffic free neighborhood yet 2 minutes from the highway and 15 minutes from Swantons grocery store. The directions were clear and the blue door made it easy to spot. Clean soft bedding and plenty of extra blankets and towels. The beautiful shady yard made the heat of the summer feel comfortable and all of the windows create a lovely cross breeze.

Alexa's birthday

The property is exactly as shown, quite adorable. Water access is not the best. The bathroom was our only complaint, toilet didn't flush great and water had a bit of a sulfer smell. All in all a very cute place and would recommend! Thank you

steep stairs,

The house is charming and delightful except for the stairs....they are a challenge for older adults. The stairs were not mentioned in the description of the property. We managed, but it would have been good to know that the bedrooms were up stairs and the only bathroom down a steep curved set of stairs. Night arrival was problematic. Identifying the cottage not easy. The painted shutters were not visible at night and no numbers or other identifying signs were found. Guesswork is required and made me feel uncertain. If I had not had the GPS identifying info I would have been lost.

pretty cottage with history

Situated a stone's throw from the Quebec border , this pretty and comfortably furnished "camp" made us feel right at home when we opened the door It reminded us of our own late Victorian family 's summer cottage on another Vermont lake - The big screen porch overlooking the sunset, board games, croquet set and badminton lawn not to mention plenty of interesting " whats its" left from " the farm" We were in the area to canoe in the Missisquoi Wildlife Refuge so the lack of beach front was not a problem, the wild, drift wood covered lake access was a good spot to bird watch tho, and take a quick swim Over all we had a very nice time .

Comfy Rustic Cabin

Very nice property with rustic home. Had all the basics covered and a huge front porch with a view of the water. Large well shaded yard is great for kids, dogs, and quiet reading. We purchased firewood from town and took off the evening chill with the woodstove. We made day trips to Stowe, Burlington, and drove a loop around the entire lake. We would definitely recommend.

Wasn't what I imagined.

Rented lake front to swim. Got there and could not swim. Bacteria in water. No ac in cottage. I left early after sweating every ounce of water in my body......wasn't comfortable.

Great quiet out of the way vacation cottage

My husband and I were looking for a rural cottage at a lake and found it here. When we were preplanning our adventures for the week we found most places we wanted to go were at least 1-1.5 hrs away. That being said, we still rented this cottage as the view of the lake was what we were looking for, though as noted by other reviews there is a cottage in front of this one blocking most of the view but we still had a good lake view and non-direct sunsets with beautiful painted skies at night. The screened porch was the clencher for our decision to rent. We sat there every morning and afternoon/evening when we got back from our outing. The futon on the porch was very comfy to sit back have our cocktails and appetizers and talk about our day. Lots of hiking, waterfalls, covered bridges to see and we went to both North and South Hero islands to add to our adventures. Great vineyard on South Hero: Snow Farm Winery. Stowe was great and the Missisquoi Wildlife Refuge fabulous nature walk. Only drawback-the cottage was “clean” but it really needed an overhaul of a cleaning. Some furniture not comfortable but several pieces there to choose from. Beds were fair but I have an elite comfy bed at home so nothing will compare. Great unique cottage with lots of family history in it. Loved to read and look at pics and antiques. Overall 4 stars only due to the lack of real cleanliness. Had a wonderful time!

A great and quiet getaway

Linda’s camp was just as described. A charming cabin on a beautiful property, overlooking great lake views! Both Linda and her property manager Nancy were kind, helpful, and responsive. Our kids loved the charming touches and history of the cabin, and we all enjoyed the family time together. Great time swimming and kayaking on the lake!

Cute rustic cottage

I can’t say enough about the owner and property manager. Both were very attentive and willing to answer any questions or address concerns extremely quickly. Lake access is a bit tricky, but if your able bodied it’s not difficult, just rocky. Very comfortable, fans and window AC as needed along with extra blankets for chilly nights. Screened in porch was excellent for morning coffee/tea and quiet evenings reading books and playing with our kids. Spiral staircase requires ground rules with kids, but we had no issues. The floor is a bit uneven, so this is definitely not for someone with mobility issues. Great base to explore Burlington, Stowe and northern VT. Cottage blocking lake view is also a rental and the second set were a tad rowdy. There was also construction taking place around us involving early morning nail guns and dogs running around belonging to the people working on the house. Not a deal a breaker, but just something to be aware of.

Great Stay in Swanton

Spent a few days away for a nice quarantine getaway. Property was just as described, and was a great lake cabin. The beach access was across the street, and about a 1 minute walk to be waterside. A great porch to watch the sunsets, and the wood stove took the chill out of the air on our first night there, as it was in the mid 40's. Close enough to all the amenities, and passing by the Canadian border to get there was neat. A great neighborhood to take walks in as well. We hope to go back.

Pandemic 2020 vacation

Quaint cabin across small dirt road from Lake Champlain but another small cabin blocks some of the view. But still pleasant for sitting on porch to relax and watch the water. Very quiet area. Lots of outdoor space. Great having access to kayaks, but a little hard getting them down and up from lake. If I didn't have a strong 17 yo son I wouldn't have been able to use them. No TV and no outside firepit disappointed the teens lol. Wifi works great so no real loss on TV after all. A neighbor was arranged to show us how and where to access water. It is rocky shore but beautiful. Our shore and swim access was way better than the house my sister had at Duck Pond Rd. Only thing suggest is more pillows. My group are 2 pillow people lol. Im glad we took this trip. Pandemic has limited where we can travel and we easily isolated and played at this cabin and lake. Thank you.

About the host

This cottage has been in my family for five generations. It began as a small summer camp for fishing and hunting. My great grandfather and great grandmother as well as answer uncles gathered there regularly. There were always Raucous games of croquet as well as Fish fries and card games well into the night.

Two generations later, my parents came to own the cottage. My mother was a Norwegian citizen and together with my father they pulled out the walls, opened it up and put in a spiral staircase, indoor plumbing and a beautiful wood stove. The hand hewn original beams are still there. The original camp now resembles a beautiful little Norwegian cottage complete with hand-painted Rosemalling shutters. When my parents passed away, I could not contemplate selling it so therefore I have put it on VRBO so that more people can enjoy it and that I can afford to hold onto it! It is a very special place and I truly wish you a wonderful time there. I hope you treat it kindly and love it as much as I do.
Thank you,
Linda Dravis

Why they chose this property

This cottage has been in my family since the late 1800's. It has been the center of many wonderful times. We have taken out interior walls, put in a rod iron spiral staircase, opened up the space . I also installed new electric, new plumbing, new front porch, new chimney, wifi. I hope that you will really enjoy your peaceful time here while respecting its 135 year age. Thank you!

What makes this property unique

Close to all kinds of Vermont spring, summer and fall fun! Beautiful place to be in and of itself.
