About this property
Traditional Maine Cottage with John's Bay Vistas: Cove and Bay Views
Quaint, Classic Maine Cottage:
3 bedroom 1 and 1/2 bath
Views to John's Bay and to quaint cove.
The town of South Bristol and its lovely, small, town center. Walking paths nearby.
Close to Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, New Harbor and Shaw's Restaurant and the Hardy Boat Cruise departure point for Monhegan Island, a wonderful day trip. Boothbay, Damariscotta - quaint town with great restaurants (King Eiders Pub for music) and shops and supplies.
The natural world is at your doorstep. Panoramic views of John's Bay, the village of Pemaquid and fabulous sunsets and sunrises or sit on the side deck of the wrap around porch and catch the comings and goings of boats, kayakers, swimmers in McFarland's Cove.
Sleep 7 very comfortably all in bedrooms. John's Bay bedroom has 3 single beds in a large space. Full bed in the second bedroom on the top floor. Queen bed is in ground floor bedroom. Full bath on ground floor. Half bath on second floor. Second floor is reached by barn wood stair case.
McFarland's Cove is a community of families and extended families who have been summering in 'the cove' for generations. The NEST, as it is known, was built by a long time local family about 100 years ago.
It sits on a bluff and has views across John's Bay, the body of water that comes in from the Atlantic and, on the opposite side of the house it overlooks McFarland's Cove, a protected harbor, with a classic Maine 'Beach' - not like the Jersey Shore:).
Wildflowers, Loons in Fall, an Eagle nesting near by can be seen at days end flying overhead. Witch island is a kayak away (Kayak rental available at Pemaquid village). And sunsets. Magnificent sunsets, and the main deck with coffee is looking directly into fabulous sunrises.
South Bristol is a picturesque fishing village, boasts a draw bridge, a historical museum and Osher's Restaurant as well as the South Bristol Co op for fresh lobster caught same day (and clams too). They will cook them for you or you can try your hand at it.
The Nest is on a graded dirt road that the community loves just the way it is. Walking trails wander off the road. There are official trails that head into South Bristol by the main road, Route 129.
Damariscotta is a 25 minute ride back to town but two local stores can provide most of the provisions you might need although for a weeks stay we recommend a shop in town! There is a full grocery in Pemaquid also along with a fishing / hunting store. Oh art galleries and antique stores are along the way.
The kitchen in the NEST offers everything you need to put out a full meal. No TV. Yes Telephone. Internet yes - .

About the host
Hosted by Dave Brown and Betsy Royal

This is where the owners parents met many years ago. In 'the cove' and the brothers and sister and all of the extended family spend summers and more on this peninsula each year. Arriving here from home in Connecticut my generation is always stunned by the shear beauty. The family boat is a wood hull lobster boat built in the 'hood by boat builder Pete Kass 25 years ago. The owners and their children and grandchildren are on the water as much as weather allows! Even storms and black clouds are gorgeous here.
Why they chose this property
This is home to the extended family who share this property. 6 generations of extended family have shared McFarland's Cove, South Bristol. The newest generation picked blueberries in the same spot that all the previous generations collected delicious Maine blueberries. Walking the spooky woods and playing in the cove water are some of the many reasons our family has stayed.
What makes this property unique
Beautiful vistas, wonderful people, crisp, clean air. Unbelievable night sky with no ambient city light! Lobster caught that day.
