We loved our week at this property, which was in conjunction with attending a race at the Watkins Glen speedway. Our favorite features were the large screened porch overlooking the lake and the well- equipped kitchen for cooking our meals. We appreciated the comfortable beds and air conditioners in each room which made a hot week more pleasant. Extras provided by hosts, such as snacks and fresh flowers were nice touches. We also enjoyed the kayaks and sitting lakeside in the Adirondack chairs. Hosts were resposive and gracious. Great proximity to town and raceway, yet quiet and private. My family owned a similar cottage and staying here brought back many wonderful memories.
This is a lovely getaway. We spent most of our waking hours at the cabin on the porch which has a fabulous view overlooking Seneca Lake and the dock/beach area.
I suspect the cabin is from the 1920s and it's been updated with indoor plumbing, a nice kitchen and a washer and dryer on the small back porch. Nights were comfortable, except for one night when the fans were needed in the bedrooms. However, several weeks before temperatures were in the 80's and 90's and that would have been challenging as the cabin has only one window air conditioner on the first floor.
The only bathroom is on the first floor, too. A bit of a challenge for those of us who have to visit the facilities at night. Overall, the Woodland cabin is a charming place well situated both on the lake and in proximity to Watkins Glen, wineries and other amenities. I defintely hope to return.
We really enjoyed being right on the lake! Screened porch was lovely to spend time looking over the lake. We all enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, swimming and fishing right off the property. The dock with Adirondack chairs on the water was so pleasant to sit in and enjoy the lake breeze. House was well stocked with everything we needed and bonus goodies for our stay. We really appreciated it being pet friendly as well! Wineries and restaurants all less than 15 minutes away.
Second year at wonderfully comfortable and well appointed retreat. Dock was lovely for relaxing, reading and drinks. Lakeshore front provided fire pit for evening entertainment and kayaks for exploring the shoreline. Coffee in the morning and great dinners on the elevated screened-in porch over looking the lake was the perfect beginning and end to the day. Theresa is a great host! Woodland Cottage is in a private but convenient location, so easy to explore the area!
We stayed for just short of a week and had a wonderful time. The house is spacious, comfy, well-stocked, and has the real feeling of a genuine vintage lakehouse. It is clear how loved and looked after the place has been by the owners and family. The beach area is big, with a dock that includes a roof for shade. The two kayaks and canoe were in great shape and so fun. It was a very peaceful part of the lake, even on Saturday. We are already planning our return next summer!
Beautiful, quiet (other than nature sounds), homey
We loved the place and location! The amenities left for us was a plus. Loved the ingenuity of the light fixtures and the knick-knacks scattered around the interior (seems like every day I noticed something new). Having the double doors open to the screened in porch made the living room seem like part of the outside! This may sound stupid but having access to Windex and paper towels to constantly clean my windshield was a huge help! I went to 6 different gas stations in NY and they all have squeegies but not a single one had cleaner to use. We did joke around about having access to a golf cart to travel from the house to the dock...LOL! Only potential downside would be lack of AC upstairs if staying during a heatwave; we were very fortunate in that it cooled down every evening albeit one night was a bit uncomfortable. Location was very convenient for all the things we did.
A great place to relax and access all the Finger Lakes have to offer
The property was amazing. The house was right on the lake. We spent a lot of time hanging out on the dock and in the evening around the firepit. The property was in a great location to take in all that Watkins Glenn had to offer and to visit many of the wineries. I would definitely highly recommend it and I certainly plan to go back there again.
Perfect spot by the lake. Loved the porch for relaxing with morning coffee and taking in the view and wildlife. Dock great for relaxing and catching some sun rays. 10 min from Watkins Glen and shopping for any necessities and restaurants. 2 kayaks and canoe were a nice bonus. House nicely stocked and all amenities needed. I would not hesitate to come back.
We had a lovely time at the Rock Stream cottage. There is a wonderful screened-in porch with a fabulous view of the lake to read, relax, eat, chat. Lots of farm stands nearby for fresh fruits and veggies and the kitchen was well-equipped for daily cooking. It was a perfect end-of-summer retreat!
I grew up with a family cottage on Seneca lake. I spent every weekend there as a kid. The family sold it a long time ago so my kids never got to experience what that was like. This cottage had all of my favorite memories. A big private beach, a great dock to hang out on, cool lake breezes blowing through the bedroom. The cottage was the perfect combination of rustic and modern. A nice little kitchen and bead board on the ceiling. The front porch is great. High above the lake and floor to ceiling screens. We ate every meal out there. Dinners on the porch, cocktails on the dock, and fires on the beach. It was the perfect summer vacation. Thank you for sharing your special please with us.
The location of the lake house is priceless, the view of the lake from the porch was the highlight of our mornings , where we enjoyed our coffee and breakfasts.
The hospitality of the owners was great and we felt at home during our stay. We are truly hoping to be able to go back next summer. Time had stopped while we were there, able to recharge and go back to our busy, at times hectic lives.
Well, as long time residents of Catlin, NY, we thought we were in for good weather on the lake in July. No such luck. But that is no fault of Theresa's. Good thing she provided lots of activities in the cottage. Super cute. Nicely stocked kitchen, fast internet, good tv service and nearby wineries. You can't ask for anything more except sunshine. (Be careful backing out of the driveway).
Totally enjoyed our stay! The porch was our favorite spot! Very comfortable and the kitchen was stocked well.. Loved having access to the kayaks & canoe! Couldn’t swim but it was beautiful on the dock! We would stay here again!
From the first view rolling down the hill to the cottage, to the spacious porch with its view, and on to the beach area and dock, nothing disappointing about this quaint and cozy property! Plenty of room to visit and congregate, plenty of room for a quiet spot to read or gaze out at the lake. With gentle breezes, ample board game tables, and a welcoming fire pit, Woodland is wonderfully appointed with goodies, linens and comforts of a home away from home. So much relaxing fun!!
Beautiful and cozy house right next to the lake! We loved kayaking and taking a small boat riding on the Seneca Finger Lake. Gorgeous area as well with many vineyards and brewery place. We would definitely recommend this house and would like to visit again in the summer. ( we stayed late September )
Our family had a great time and we felt very comfortable. Everything in the cottage was provided, well thought out and clean. Lights and lamps in every corner of the house. The bedrooms were very spacious. The screened in porch overlooking the lake was great for outdoor dining. The kayaks, canoe, life preservers, chairs on the dock, chairs by the camp fire pit, heat for cool nights and everything we needed in the kitchen to cook our meals. Having a Walmart Superstore nearby was a big plus.
Our family had a wonderful time at this cottage. We spent a lot of time on the screened in porch as well as down at the dock. The fire pit was great too. We would definitely stay here again!!!!!!
What a great spot and home. Clean, charming and equipped with everything you need to have a fantastic vacation and then some. Friendly owner and the fantastic location made for a wonderful week for our family.
A nice cottage! The owners were great and provided all the important things you need for your stay plus a few extras to make your stay special! We spent a lot of time in the screened-in porch which overlooks the lake. The canoe and kayaks were put to good use.
The house, private dock/beach front, and location make for a very enjoyable, relaxing vacation. The place has a ton of charm.
Theresa was an excellent host. Very easy check-in and helpful household instructions were provided.
We had a wonderful time at this secluded Seneca lakefront cottage. The cottage was well maintained, stocked and comfortable. It has a large pebble beach and pier, and is located at the end of a long semi-private road. The property owners were very reachable and put in. This is definitely the place for people that want some comfortable and peaceful lakefront time away.
We absolutely loved our time at the cottage! The property owners were very responsive and wonderful to deal with. The beach and dock are fabulous. We spent most of our time on the screened porch overlooking the lake, it was heavenly! We had absolutely everything we needed and more. The washer/dryer was a big plus, as was the tv with Netflix and Amazon Prime - the kids were happy! We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking in the area!

Our Vintage Camp/Cottage was our summer home for many a year. Since moving to Watkins Glen and purchasing a large estate home overlooking the lake (VRBO #589749) we thought we would let some others enjoy our hideaway on the lake. I love to cook so we put in a new kitchen and took down a wall so I could enjoy the party as much as my guests. Lots of local farm grown produce to put together that unforgettable meal. The porch is where we spend lots of time overlooking the lake. Check out the 'WELCOME TO THE PORCH' sign on your arrival. This magical camp is in a forrest like setting over looking our private beach. We have done our best to keep our Camp/Cottage a place to relax and kick back and put your feet up. The place is clean and comfortable but with unique charm that only a camp/cottage can offer.
Why they chose this property
This magical cottage has been in the family for the last 90 years. In 1988 we purchase this unique camp from the family estate and have been totally over joyed to call it home for many summers when we lived in Florida. In 2011 we bought a lovely five acre estate (VRBO #589749)in the Village of Watkins Glen and to add something else on our plate a local marina (Frog Hollow Marina) Since we seemed to be very busy with our projects we decided to rent our cottage and let others enjoy this special spot. Our Camp/Cottage is situated in a private forest like setting. We have two acres with 200 ft of private beach with fire pit, kayakas and hugh dock for entertaining. True relaxation in a private setting. Check out the sign at the cottage 'At The Lake We Forget To Count The Days'!
