About this property

Lake Winnipesaukee Waterfront Cottage - Best View on Lake - Limited Availability

Step back in time in this all-original lake-house from a bygone era. Many original features including pine paneling and Art Deco couch. Originally built in 1951 by Rev Charles C. Noble, who had been affiliated with nearby Camp Kehonka. We've always used the property for ourselves, so it comes fully furnished and filled with family memorabilia. We're now offering for rent on a limited basis. Most of the weeks on the calendar are still taken by the extended family, but we are renting late June & early September weeks--the 'shoulder' season--as well as a few summer weeks. The house is uninsulated, but does have a fireplace to provide heat.

The cottage rents Sat to Sat. Price: $2600/week shoulder season

At 2-3/4 acres, the property is about half-again larger than the average lakefront property on Lake Winnipesaukee. The sloping property is still in its original wooded state with large pines throughout, although some trees have been thinned in front of the cottage to aid the view. The property is on a private road, with a long winding driveway down to the house, so there is no road noise whatsoever. The parking area is part-way down the hill, away from the house.

The houses on Chestnut Cove are well-spaced, so there is relatively little boat traffic. The large dock area has with shade pergola, for ample seating, and can accommodate a 22’ boat. Included are open kayaks and a canoe, with paddles and some lifejackets. Both Parker and Gillan Marine in nearby Alton Bay have power boats for rent.

We’re located about 8 miles (15 min) from downtown Wolfeboro with its many fine restaurants and shops. Travel about 6 miles (12 minutes) the other direction and you’re in Alton Bay.

The property looks out across the large open expanse on the lake called 'The Broads' between the southern end of the lake and Rattlesnake Island, so the views and sunsets are gorgeous. Cooling breezes normally flow down the lake and right up our property.

While the size of the cottage is modest, the layout with bedrooms on either end of the house provides a fair amount of sleeping capacity. There are 5 bedrooms, 3 with double or queen beds, one with two twins, and a small room with one twin bed. The main house (with master bedroom and room with twin beds) is separated from the other bedrooms by a screened in porch, so two families could share with privacy. Three bedrooms face the lake. All the bedrooms are compact, as it’s assumed vacationers will spend their time in the living room/porch areas or down by the waterfront.

The kitchen is in a small alcove but does have a compact island facing the living room with high-stool seating for 4. This is an all-original period cottage with rustic pine cabinets: no granite countertops, no dishwasher. Just off the kitchen is a large screened porch area with rustic dining table that seats about 10, so it’s not a long walk to serve meals. There's a bathroom on either end of the house, one with a new shower, the other with only a toilet and sink.

Renters will leave the house as they found it, with dishes cleaned and the house organized as they found it. If there's dirty dishes in the sink and the house is a mess, we'll deduct from the cleaning deposit. We will clean the laundry. We prefer no pets, but will consider, since we know it's a big hassle and expense to leave a dog at home. We hope you will not let the dog run free, but at least expect you to pick up after your dog. Smoking is strictly prohibited in or around the house. This is an older wood structure and combined with all the pine needles around the house, it's very flammable. Please don't throw cigarette butts in the woods. Let us know and we'll provide a sand/bucket for butts both in the parking area and down by the dock.

Great waterfront cabin

The cabin was just what we expected, an old-time family cabin on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. Lots of historical and family artifacts, and a cozy charm. The windows were amazing, and the views were spectacular. The dock and cove were great and accommodated our 16ft day sailer, which we were able to put in at the nearby marina. Be aware that the parking area is generous, but it is not really great for a boat trailer (it can be ok for small boats), but we made arrangements with the marina for trailer storage for the week. The beds were comfortable and we had a wonderful week.

Good family fun!

Overall, we had a very pleasant family gathering at this cottage. Inside, the cottage was very pleasant. Rustic and retro, it was very clean, with roomy common areas, and well stocked. The views of the lake, especially at sunset, are breathtaking. The private dock and covered dock portico area are great. The family loved the fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing and lounging. Margie, the owner, was very nice and responsive to all our needs. Outside, the cottage roof was fully covered with pine needles and leaves, with layers of dust and cobwebs around all the windows and screens. The grounds were also completely covered in brush and overgrowth with no outside sitting area by the cottage. One suggestion would be a more accurate description of the slope and condition of the driveway from the parking area to the cottage, and also from the cottage to the lakeside dock. We arrived before and left after our younger family members, so for 75+ year olds like us, it was very difficult and almost impossible to unload, carry and reload heavy luggage, heavy bags of sheets for 6 beds, towels, and grocery bags to and from the car - even with the cart provided, which needed a thorough cleaning before use. Both the highly sloped drive and dock path, with their jutting roots, rotting wood steps, exposed rocks, and plant overgrowth, made it very difficult for us older folks to navigate without tripping or stumbling, or to push a loaded cart.

Cozy Family Cottage

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Margie's cozy cottage. The views of Winnipesaukee from the cottage and the dock were definitely the BEST! We especially enjoyed the sunsets every evening. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. And the dock area provided a great outdoor space to relax and enjoy the lake.

Wonderful stay. A real cottage.

This cottage had everything we needed! A lovely waterfront for the kids to swim and paddle in, a good dock for our 17' boat, best sunsets, sparkling clean shower....even a good sized tv for those stormy days (only Thurs) and a few evenings. Thank you so much for having us Margie! We had a fabulous time.

Wonderful lakefront cottage, great sunsets, would definitely stay again

My family and I had a great stay at the Noble cottage. Communication with the host was easy. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. The cottage itself was perfect--great views, good fishing, swimming, and boating. We would definitely stay again.

Spectacular waterfront property

I loved my stay at the Nobel Cottage! It is a charming, spacious, unpretentious retreat owned by their family for generations. It felt just like the summer cottages I enjoyed as a child in Maine. Since it is still predominately a family compound, there were many shared items, like spices and linens. Family portraits and children's artwork sweetly show the cabin's history. The waterfront has a very private and safe access to the lake and the immediate neighbors were very friendly. Sunsets are spectacular. I hope this is the first visit of many to come. Best View on the Lake

The house was clean and not full of stuff. Furniture appropriate for setting. Amenities in home complete. Loved that there were bedrooms and bathrooms on both sides of the house. Accommodates those who like to stay up late and those that do not. Loved the rustic home feel. The dock was a great size. Able to spread out with all the water toys. Also, liked the walk down to the water. Appreciate the railing down to the water and up to the driveway for the those in need. Would love for the half bath to be a full bath. The view, sunset, spectacular. We loved it.
