Perfect house on the water!

Our family had a wonderful stay! Everything we needed was provided - lots of towels, fully stocked kitchen, blankets, kayaks and a canoe. The beds were very comfortable and we had plenty of room to spread out in the living rooms. The porch was a great place to relax and have coffee and watch the birds over the water. It was a quiet neighborhood for walks in the evening. The owner was very responsive and helpful. We hope we can come back one day!

Home away from home!

This property is set up like a home and not a typical vacation rental with just the basics. It felt like a place thats seen much warmth and love. The kitchen is fully stocked as advertized and there are so many 'extras' in the house like bikes, fishing equipment, binoculars etc. We particularly loved the upper deck - we were able to see dolphins on a number of occassions. Sunsets were spectacular and watching the July 4th fireworks from the deck was a total treat. The kayaks were in great shape and it was super convenient to have the boat ramp next to the house. We went out a number of times on the kayaks during our stay. The house is older, our cell phone connectivity wasnt the best and the wifi was basic, but we absolutely loved our stay. The location of the property can't be beat - wonderful views of the bay, next to the boat ramp, on an island, inside a wildlife refuge and with plenty to do in the area. I know that we'll be back!

remote location and wild

This location is located on the intercoastal in a great spot that allows you to fish, kayak, and explore at your leisure. It was great for what we were looking for.

Very nice stay

Beautiful waterfront views from this quaint, older home. We saw dolphins feeding almost everyday from the deck. The kayaks were in good shape and we used them daily. The home and kitchen were well stocked with everything we needed and we cooked every night. We wish the decks had a fan or two and the bathrooms could use a remodelling. Neighbors are very friendly and it wasn't a big deal being right next to the boat ramp. VRBO listing needs to be updated.

Some Good; Some So So

The location of this house is wonderful and we certainly enjoyed the sunsets from the upper deck. This is an older home and appears to have few updates. The tub on the upper level drains slowly and needs to be addressed. Luckily, the shower on the ground level was great and there was plenty of hot water. The light above the kitchen sink appeared to have burnt out but we realized that the GFI plug behind the coffee maker had thrown. We came to that conclusion when the toaster oven was no longer operational as well. The microwave is small and older and has a broken wheel on the turntable. This home has a lot of space for a large number of people and had plenty of space for just the two of us. There was only one closet that could be used to hang our clothes as the other closets were pretty full of owner items. There were a lot of seasonings left for our use and many dishes, pots and pans for cooking and serving. There is only one TV in the house which worked fine. There is no WiFi available. This was like staying at grandma's house with linens and towels seeing much previous use - clean but worn. We were certainly comfortable and our stay was pleasant as we are interested in this location for seeing birds. Unfortunately, the weather was too cool to attract dolphins. The people in the area are very friendly and helpful. The property has a very homey feel so don't expect a "luxury" experience. I grew up in the country and don't want to appear snooty but this property could benefit from some TLC and updates. This would probably be great for a large family and because it is homey, little ones could enjoy the space in a relaxed attitude.

Great Place

This is my second time staying at this property, and I have nothing but great things to say about it, and the owners as well. I will continue to book it on my trips to Tallahassee when it is available.

Wildlife Refuge Vacation!

The house is an older home but well kept and what you would expect to find in such a remote location. We loved the view from the porches where we were greeted by an awesome display of antics by a group of dolphins right in front of the house. We saw small alligators in the canal in front of the house! None the less, my daughter enjoyed early morning kayaking out into the bay. We were in the area to attend an FSU football game. Tallahassee is about 45 minute drive north. We also visited Wakulla Springs, and the visitors' center and lighthouse inside the St. Marks Wildlife refuge. This would be a great place to stay in the winter during the bird migration south.

Great value, nice location

The house is great, plenty of room and good value. The canal is shallow and dries up at low tide. Good for skiffs, no good for bigger boats. It does need a dock, rocks and rubble on the shore are a hazard.

Great location. Welcoming and comfortable. Kayaks a bonus. Beautiful sunsets and dolphins in the bay

Large for the price point, generous sized rooms. Stocked kitchen.Lots of privacy around the upper balcony to enjoy the view. Was quiet throughout most of our stay. Travelled to nearby sites St Mark's, Walluka Springs and Walluka beach. But mostly spent time enjoying kayaking, dolphin and bird watching and relaxing. Would recommend for a relaxing nature filled trip.

SHHHHHH....Don't Let the Secret Out!

I'm almost scared to share what I really think of this place because I want to keep the secret of what an amazing get away this was for my family. Perfect! If you want a get way from everything and enjoy a piece of Florida that not many get to experience, this is the place. My son is a student in Tallahassee so the location was perfect for him to get away from campus life for a quick weekend. This home was very comfort for all of us. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. Be prepared, the closest Grocery store is 30 minutes away and the convenience store that is closer closes early. The kids had a good time fishing, kayaking and exploring the area. I had a great time watching them put down the electronics and enjoy life! The neighbors and the owners are very friendly and accommodating. We will be back!

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful!

We had a wonderful time staying at this house. The decks were our favorite spot overlooking the water. The sunsets were amazing! The house is very roomy and with 2 15yr olds, 2 10yr olds and an 12yr old that was wonderful. The kids had a blast finding hermit crabs, fiddler crabs and a few starfish in the water as well as catching some blue crabs and doing some kayaking. They were completely satisfied putting down the phones and electronics and enjoyed the outdoors! That is a feat in itself and speaks volumes about this rental.

I have stayed at this property many times. It is one of my favorite places on Earth. There is so much to do here or you can choose to do nothing at all. I love going to Wakulla Springs and to St. Marks Wildlife Refuge, but I also love relaxing on the top deck. This coast house has something for evertone! Added bonus! It's about 30min from FSU so is a great place to stay on ame weekends!

Comfortable and Quiet

Don't be fooled by the house exterior when you drive up. The front (facing the water) and the interior is quite nice. It is large and roomy inside and the beds are comfortable. Lots of extra pillows and plenty of clean towels and sheets. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook indoors and on the grill. The island is so quiet, it is wonderful. We fished from the downstairs porch and used the crab traps as well. We had drinks on the upstairs balcony and watched incredible sunsets, and on clear nights we saw the Milky Way. This place is well off the beaten path -- not a fancy condo, but an old, comfortable, very laid-back place to wind down.

Vintage old Florida

Pictures of the porches show house at low tide. High tide brings water level high enough to fish right from the porch! Turnkey vacation experience with plentiful fresh towels and linens, even fishing poles and kayaks. House is larger than other rentals on the island; spacious with multiple vistas. Community boat ramp is conveniently located right next to the house. We also enjoyed morning and evening walks down the dirt road to the point. We are pleased to find such a comfortable family home nestled within the wildlife refuge and estuary. No finer, quieter place to relax. We hope to return in the fall.

About the host

The house was initially built by my grandparents who had lived in Tallahassee since the 1940s. We are all FSU Seminoles and call Tallahassee home.

Why they chose this property

This property has been in our family since 1964. We have many wonderful memories exploring the wildlife and playing in the water. Check out the pictures of the view from our deck. There is truly something for everyone no matter the age.

What makes this property unique

Our favorite experience is sitting on the upper deck with our cold beverages; watching the sun set while the birds soar and the the porpoises feed.
