Perfect place Peloponesos

Wat een heerlijke plek! Totale privacy. Prachtig uitzicht midden tussen soms 200 jaar oude olijfbomen. Ruimte en rust. Zeer vriendelijke gastheer. Een plek om te onthouden!

Kleines Paradies

What a lovely home!

We really enjoyed our stay. The home is beautiful and comfortable. The view is amazing and the flowers on the porch are gorgeous. The owners are so friendly and helpful. I can't say enough positive things about them. No fault of theirs but sometimes there were dogs barking at night; however, that is hard to avoid anywhere one stays. Also, when they offer to show you the way to their home from the highway take them up on the offer! We tried to find the driveway on our own but finally gave up and called them. It is quite an adventure to get to their place but it is a fun adventure and one that is really well worth it. Kudos to this couple for having such a welcoming and lovely place for others to enjoy.

Magical holiday

We're just back from a magical holiday at The Olive Farm. Many precious memories were made for us and our young family and we're all in love with Greece. It was a pleasure to meet Charles, Ellie and Lexie and Patch and Tilly the dogs became extended family for the fortnight. The place has a wonderful energy and we just felt at home. We used the house as a base to explore the glorious South coastline and had a fabulous day in Olympia and many at the beach. Our most memorable day was when we caught an early ferry across to Kefalonia and hired a boat from the lovely George at George's Boats. A glorious day that we highly recommend. We most definitely will be back!

Super Ferienhaus

Hier stimmt einfach alles.

Met by charming owners who showed us around a beautiful home. Large rooms well cared for and extremely well stocked; Everything you need is there for a completely relaxing vacation. Large kitchen and living room and extra large bath. Convenient to Olympus, the beach and Katakolon. Owner provides suggested day trips all of which were of great interest. Very clean and every attention to detail was met. Great communication and everything as promised and better.

Perfektes Refugium

Olive farm stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the olive farm. It was exactly as we expected, and clean and very well equipped. Charles, Eleanor and Lexi (and their menagerie) were very welcoming as hosts, and extremely forthcoming with help and information, without ever being intrusive. A splendid, if slightly remote, location - the ancient sites of Olympia and Messini are within striking distance, and there are fantastic beaches nearby. There's also the bonus of constant butterfly visitors to the verandah! We would definitely recommend this property.

Superb hideaway

We spent 3 weeks at the Olive Farm, which is the perfect place to enjoy real peace and quiet - unless you mind bees humming, chickens cackling or crickets chirring. It was the kind of holiday when my wife and I were 'all on our own' as much as we wanted, but were still able to rely on help and advice from the very friendly and likeable owners when this was needed. The owners live 50 yards from the property, but this did not spoil the feel of 'being on our own' in lovely Greek nature. The property is spaceous, well-maintained and provides plenty of books (books galore and many DvDs), but also various board & card games. The front garden below the veranda offers many flowers - a real treat to the eyes. The location is ideal for both the typical beach holiday and for tours into the mountains: it is only a few minutes by car to the long, sandy coastline, where we saw only very few people (in fact, our next 'beach neighbours' were 200 or 300 yards away from us, so we felt like having our own private beach). In the mountains, we did fascinating day trips to waterfalls, canyons, and monasteries - the owners gave us brilliant tips on where to go and what to see and there is also a folder in the property with details about each trip. In a nutshell, it was just the kind of holiday we had dreamt of and we are already planning to return to this romantic place. We want to thank the owners, Eleanore and Charles, for their hospitality and kindness and do hope to see them again next summer! Marianne & Adalbert, Germany P.S.: When our rental car had a flat tyre and we had no equipment on board to change wheels, Charles came in no time - yes, on a Sunday! - to Zacharo, where we were stranded, and got us out of this calamity. This was just gallant, 'Sir Charles', we will always owe you! :-)

A place of tranquillity

I loved watching the sun set over the Mediterranean. Across the bay the lights come on like a glistening necklace around the shores of the island of Zakynthos. The surrounding olive groves whisper peace and say, we have been here for centuries and we welcome you. Within easy drives there are gorgeous, almost empty beaches. I hope to come again - and again - Deo volente.

Fantastic house with everything you need

Great base from which to explore the region, a short drive from an enormous beach and the wonders of Olympia and there's even an ancient acropolis that you can walk to from the house. The Olive Farm has everything you need for a perfect stay - it's spacious and fitted out to a very high standard. Brilliant owners who are there to advise on local restaurants etc. Free dog isn't mentioned in the brochure nor were the pigs, cats, chickens who all put a shift to make you happy.

Great house and location

We would heartily recommend The Olive Farm to anyone - we had the most wonderful time there. The house has everything one would need to feel comfortable and at home. Upon our arrival Charles, Ellie and Lexi provided us with bottles of cold water, olive oil and some basic food which were highly appreciated. They were very friendly and helpful during our stay and managed to make us feel at home. The covered veranda is spacious with lots of flowers and fantastic view to the sea and sunset. We spent many hours there relaxing and enjoying the view. We spent 2 weeks there with our 2 boys (6 years old and 16 months old) who loved the house and veranda as well as the olive trees area around the house. There is very beautiful beach within 5-10 min drive (having both "organized" and "wild" sections), and Ancient Olympia is only 30 mins drive away. All the info, provided from the owners, was very useful and easy to follow. The Kato Samiko area is very beautiful and the diversity of nature is really amazing - you have mountains, sea, endless sandy beach, beach flowers, lake, wild and cultivated greenery, citrus and olive trees. We had a wonderful vacation and would love to go back.

Wonderful house in amazing location

We felt immediately at home in this lovely property. The veranda was large and contained lots of flowers in pots. House and garden were well maintained and everything that we needed was available. We were given fresh eggs and home made bread on arrival, along with olive oil. The setting was idyllic, very peaceful with lovely views. I would echo the comment of a previous reviewer, that the pictures do not do justice to this lovely place. We were also impressed by the generosity and warmth of Ellie, Charlies and Lexi. Our boys loved playing with Lexi, and especially on her huge trampoline.

Beautiful place to relax and enjoy Greece

One always hope to have a happy and relaxing vacation, but it is rare to find so much more than you hoped for. The house has everything you need, the kitchen is complete so you can make 'real' meals. Finding some basic foods in the fridge and homemade bread upon arrival was a wonderful welcome in itself. The place is very clean and kept up, and we felt very comfortable, like a home away from home. The view of the sea as well as the beautiful flowerbed in front of the terrace provide the perfect atmosphere for relaxing and the beach is just minutes away by car. If you like animals it is worth going up to the farm and saying hello to the pigs who are so silly and entertaining, and the dogs who are so friendly and happy. You can enjoy solitude if you want, but welcoming smiles await anyone that ventures up to the farm for a chat or to ask a question. Charles and Eleanor and Lexi are every bit as interesting and wonderful as the place they have made for others to vacation in. We are already looking forward to returning!

Perfect spot for a family holiday in Greece.

“Perfect spot for a relaxing family vacation.” We spent one perfect week in June with our three children at the Olive Farm. The farm itself is gorgeous - the house sits nestled in a grove of olive trees, with a drive that passes orange and lemon trees dripping ripe fruit onto the ground. The house has a gorgeous garden surrounding the veranda, where we would eat and relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and fresh air of the farm, as well as the lovely view of the sea. The house itself is extremely comfortable, in excellent condition, and is extremely well equipped for a rental property. We ate amazing fresh produce, swam in the ocean, hiked behind the house to the ancient acropolis, drove to lovely mountain villages, hiked in a gorge, visited ancient olympia and the Temple of Apollo.... and of course, we relaxed. The house is great for families, but is also a perfect for a secluded romantic getaway. Our three young children ansolutely adored the farm - they wandered around the olive groves for hours, played with Charles and Ellie's charming daughter Lexie (who also acted as our very knowledgable guide to the acropolis!) and loved going over and checking out the animals on Charle's and Ellie's adjacent farm. We went to the beach, and they also really enjoyed visiting the historical sites. The guest book in the house was full of visitors who return every year, which attests to how great the Olive Farm is. The area is off the beaten track, which adds to the charm of the place. We would highly recommend the Olive Farm to anyone looking to rent in Greece, and hope to return ourselves for a repeat visit. Beautiful house, grounds and sunsets

We traveled from California to stay here and it was a great choice. Things we enjoyed included: 1. Pre-trip Q&A info from the hosts via email. This made for a great and smooth arrival day. 2. The house and surrounding grounds were beautiful and “way nicer than the website photos.” 3. The main room, with the kitchen, dining area and couches was where everyone wanted to gather, and did. Very complete kitchen. 4. The views and sunsets over the ocean. 5. The ‘green binder’ with extensive info on the area and activities. 6. Proximity to Ancient Olympia 7. An overnight excursion to Zakynthos island 8. The loop walk around the valley 9. Abundant shelf, closet, drawer and hanger space in the master bedroom 10. Overall rural beauty Charles and Ellie have built and wonderful home

About the host

We left the UK about 20 years ago, and spent the next few years travelling Europe, looking for somewhere to put down roots. By 2002 it was clear that Greece was the place for us, and we have been here ever since.

Why they chose this property

We spent several years wandering around Europe, looking for the perfect spot. Once we narrowed our search to Greece, we then spent several years travelling all around the mainland, and several of the islands, trying to find exactly the right spot for us. Once we narrowed it down to the area around Kato Samiko, we spent months walking around the area, along the beach, up the mountains, around the lake etc, hunting out places for sale. All the while, we had a running joke about the perfect olive grove that we passed continually, but knew we could never buy, as it couldn't possibly be for sale. It had fabulous views, stone-built terraces, ancient olive trees, was close to the village but not in the village, and was in all ways exactly what we knew we wanted, but could never have. Owing to some rather strange luck, we now own exactly this piece of land, and we have no intention of ever leaving. For us, The Olive Farm is perfect, in every way.

What makes this property unique

What is special about The Olive Farm is actually the olive trees themselves - we have young slim trees of 20 years, big well-established trees of 100 years, and right outside the house is a huge, gnarled, gigantic tree of unknowable age. The house is squeezed in amongst them, giving you a wonderful sense of seclusion and privacy, whilst still having the ability to sit on the veranda and watch the sun set behind the island of Zakynthos, across the bay. The vast beach, the mountains behind the house, the forest, the village across the valley all help, but it is the olive trees and terraces that make this place so special. And this is what all our guests tell us too, so there must be something to it.
