About this property

Reconnect with all that is you.

Offered for rent is a unique and architecturally sophisticated cottage on a magical mountain in Asheville, NC. The setting is retreat-like, and excellent for those wanting to reconnect with nature, themselves, their friends, or their family. This a place where you can get away from the many distractions of everyday life so you can find what feeds your soul.

The house sits on the side of Pinnacle Knob, a 4150 foot mountain in Buncombe County. It is intended to make you feel as if you are living outdoors, connected with nature, but with all the amenities of indoor living -- kind of like a treehouse with the mountain being the tree. The house is green and healthy-built, and features reclaimed walnut floors, an 1890's Victorian staircase, historical lighting fixtures and a collection of 100-year old recycled doors. We place a premium on the importance of a healthy environment, with a HealthyBuilt certification, pristine well-water, organic mattresses and bedding and non-toxic cookware.

The yard has organic fruit trees and 75 blueberry bushes, which ripen and give you an abundance of anti-oxidants if you are with us in July or August. There are spectacular views, sunlit rooms, and outdoor refuges. Our mountain is cool in the summer, magnificent in the fall and spring, and peaceful in the winter.

It is easy to explore Asheville during the day and return home in the evening. We are 25 minutes from downtown Asheville and 20 minutes from groceries and other amenities. Because the house is on the top of a mountain, a four wheel drive is required. Because of its retreat-like setting, one has to like living in nature to feel comfortable renting this home.

Asheville, NC has world-class restaurants, local organic food, entertainment, and a popular and quaint downtown.

Wonderful and relaxing

Angela was a wonderful host. The property is unbelievable and so much better than pictures can describe. It’s the type of place that you could stay to recharge your batteries and fully relax. We will definitely stay again at Flutterby Ridge.

Cozy Mountain Cottage

We recently rented the home for a couple nights. What a beautiful property and tranquil setting. The owners were gracious hosts, everything was in good working order and the home is just the cutest little property on the most peaceful mountain top meadow. The property is everything advertised and more. Thank you Doug and Angela.

Breathtaking views and beautiful weekend getaway spot!

This house is so beautiful and well maintained! The hosts have infused so much personality within this home, from the reclaimed wood and furniture, hammocks in the bedrooms, and amazing sunrise views over the mountains. The driveway is a little scary but should be manageable with a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We sadly didn't get to spend as much time in the house as I would have liked due to a wedding, however I know that this would have been a perfect relaxing getaway spot.

Great escape to nature!

My husband and 3 children and I loved our stay at Flutterby Ridge. It's definitely a trek up a mountain but worth it. The views were amazing! The house is clean, updated, and in perfect condition. The owners had it well stocked and were very attentive to questions we had while we were staying there. We enjoyed the badminton set, the fire pit for s'mores, the lovely porch, and the berry picking. This is a great home for a family who wants to escape to nature and enjoy time together. We would definitely go back!

Relax and Enjoy Family Time

This beautiful cottage was the perfect place for our family to relax and enjoy time together. We spent a couple of days exploring Asheville and enjoyed spending Independence Day at the house, grilling, playing games, and watching all the fireworks happen down in the cities and towns below. The house had everything we needed to cook our own meals and the bedrooms were very comfortable. You truly need a 4-wheel drive car to make it up to the house, but the views are amazing once you are at the top. Angela is super-helpful and informative about everything in the home. We highly recommend staying at Flutterbye Ridge!

Perfect Girls Trip Getaway

This property is absolutely perfect for a relaxing time away. We did a four person girls trip and this house accommodated us incredibly comfortably. The house had everything we needed, the views were breathtaking, and the pictures of the décor/property truly couldn't do it justice. We spent a large amount of our weekend at the house enjoying the trails, drinking coffee in the yard, and cooking. The trip in to Asheville was about 30 minutes, but we honestly found ourselves opting to stay at the house instead of going in to the city. There is an adorable organic/local food store at the main road that was perfect for stocking up for our stay. Angela was the perfect host. She and her daughter met us at check-in to quickly walk us through the house features (greatly appreciated) and then was available for the entirety of our stay. We're already planning our next stay because we want to experience the

Mountain top Oasis!!!

My wife, whose currently 20 weeks pregnant, and I booked this Cottage for my 39th birthday. However, we decided to invite my parents to come up from Florida so we could tell them their 1st grandchild would be a BOY! Our dilemma was, while my wife and I wanted a secluded oasis away from the world, we knew my family would want to visit Asheville / Hendersonville to explore all they had to offer. Also, since they drove up, they expressed that they would like to be near the city because they were tired of driving. Chasing a unicorn seemed like a daugnting task but I excepted the challenge. I stumbled across this cottage, after a couple days of looking, but it had limited reviews at the time and minimal photos. However, I was running out of time and decided to just go ahead and book it; crossing fingers and hoping for the best. First, the owners were extremely responsive and sent a personal email within an hour. I wrote back, to answer a few questions and ask a few of my own, and they actually called me rather than playing email tag. They went above and beyond to meet some of our needs; to the point I felt like a guest, rather than a paying customer. As far as the house, and our actual time spent on the property, all I can say is it was nothing short of amazing! The home is beautiful and the pictures online do not do it justice. You are totally secluded; feeling as though you've left the world behind (actually below); however, you can see Asheville in the distance so it's still feels within reach. The biggest compliment I can give this home can be summed up with a simple conversation we had one afternoon. To give some context, we only had one vehicle so splitting the group meant somebody would be stranded until the others group returned. Well, this meant our days had to be planned out and all parties in agreement... enough backstory hopefully you get the picture. This particular day Dad and I went to play golf. The caveat though was we had to go early and then take my wife and mother anywhere they wanted to go for the entire afternoon/early evening. Heading back to the property, almost 6 hours since left, we called to see what we'd be doing/ where we'd be driving them for the rest of the afternoon/evening. The response, "You're done already? Well, no rush, take your time heading back, we decided we wanted to stay up here instead of leaving. Can you grab some diner for tonight on your way? It's a magical place... you won't want to leave

Wonderful family get away

Flutterby Ridge is one our favorite places we have ever stayed anywhere. It is a wonderful place to get away, be close to nature and find a great combination of both a sense of peace and a sense of adventure, all wrapped up with wonderful hospitality from our host and a comfortable clean place to take in some of the greatest sunrises you will ever see. The host family took extra care to put out holiday decorations(which was greatly appreciated by all), and took the time to come out and escort us to the place and provide a personal tour and welcome to the property.

Mountain paradise

This property is absolutely amazing and Angela was great. She showed us around the property when we arrived and gave us great tips about activities to do in the area. You definitely need a 4-wheel drive to get up the driveway but when you get to the end of it, you are greeted by an idyllic setting of a quaint house nestled in the mountains surrounded by flower gardens. The views were amazing and we enjoyed picking blueberries, playing racquetball, playing board games, and relaxing at night by the fire. The house itself was unique with all of the old architectural salvage pieces they incorporated into it as well! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and definitely want to come back. Thank you!

Beautiful Family Getaway

A quiet, private property with breathtaking views. The home was perfectly appointed and comfortable for our family holiday gathering. Close enough to Asheville to go out for dinner. WE loved gathering around the fire pit at night! You must have a 4-wheel-drive to be guaranteed you can get up the mountain road. Our all-wheel-drive Subaru Outback was able to handle the steep incline, but it would be questionable if our car could have made it in wintery weather. Nonetheless, we took a chance and are glad we did. I would think twice before booking this in the winer if there was a chance for ice/snow. We will be back in the Spring/Summer. Can't wait to see the property when all the flora and fauna are abundant!

Oh the views!

Many thanks to Doug and Angela for sharing this pretty place. Definitely one of the prettiest views to wake up to -- it is better than the pictures! Very very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed picking blueberries and apples and sitting by the fire on the patio. The drive up the lane is accurately described, and you will be rewarded for your efforts. Doug was readily available to communicate with and check-in went great. Thanks again for such a nice place to visit!

Exceptional Blue Ridge Hideaway!

Flutterby Ridge was a wonderful vacation spot for my family ranging from 4-74 years old. There was something for everyone! We particularly enjoyed the time away from technology. Cell phone service was great at the house, but there was no desire to use it. Athena and Garrett were extremely flexible with our travel delayed arrival and Angela made the process simple from start to finish with her prompt communication. I highly recommend Flutterby for your Asheville area getaway! We flew into Charlotte and were able to request a 4x4 vehicle upon arrival through Dollar rent a car.

Away from it all with every comfort

Wonderful, cozy pre-Christmas visit to Asheville. Despite arriving in the dark (not recommended), Angela kindly met us and guided us up the hill to Flutterby Ridge and oriented us to the house - even helping to carry our stuff in! The house is clean and modern, but classic and cozy all at once. A delightful stay and we hope to return.

Beautiful views and great house! A little ways outside of Asheville, but consider this great place your destination. Peaceful, pretty, modern house on top of a mountain. House is well stocked with dishes, etc. and a very solid house to ride out Hurricane Irma! Thanks to Doug and Angela!

How I've imagined the Garden of Eden might be

The only thing more idyllic than the land at Flutterby Ridge is the house. This might be the most magical place I've ever vacationed--and I live in Alaska. The property is remote, at the end of a steep gravel road, but I found it to be in good condition and fine to go up in a 4-wheel-drive small SUV. The pay-off is 100% privacy in surroundings impossible to describe in this space. You will see. The house is so beautifully designed. All the comforts of home in a zen retreat-like structure. We made a fire in the fire ring and made s'mores under the stars to the soundtrack of owls and crickets. In the morning, when work called, I was able to deal with the situation on the phone and Internet, thanks to the fast connection--honestly, the best of both worlds. Flutterby Ridge is unreal--in the best of ways. I will be back in the spring for a longer stay.

Heavenly

There is absolutely nothing bad to say about Flutterby Ridge. The views are breath taking and house is roomy yet cozy. It is decorated beautifully. The outdoor living space was so nice that we didn't go in until near 9 every night! The flowers are lovely & attract butterflies by the dozens. Our girls loved it here because of the butterflies & wildlife. If you want to watch TV be sure to bring a lap TOP to connect to their TV but we never missed watching once the whole week. Instead, we enjoyed taking in the views of Asheville & watching lightening storms as the rolled in & most importantly, enjoying time together!! I highly recommend!!

What a lovely place!

Thank you Flutterby Ridge and Angela for a wonderful visit! We arrived for our family getaway and visit to Asheville only a few days after the owners had opened the house for the season. The house was in perfect condition, beautifully furnished, and the hosts were personable and accommodating. Gorgeous views and peaceful nights’ sleep. Short walks on the property. Beautiful spot. Would highly recommend. :)
