Tired, old and dusty apartment - not what we expected
We were excited about staying in this apartment because of the excellent reviews, but unfortunately our expectations were not met at all. The only really positive thing about the apartment is the view, which is truly wonderful towards the lovely sandy beach.
Otherwise walking into the apartment is like travelling back in time. Everything is old, tired and overly used. The carpet in the living room is worn thin. The throw over the couch has a cigarette hole burn. The furniture is old-fashioned and clunky. The deco is a hotchpotch of mixed old “stuff”, put together without any concept or love. The kitchen utensils and cutlery have all seen better days. We got the impression that this must have been a retirement home that was furnished and equipped in the sixties or seventies and nothing had changed since then.
The mattresses are worn and stained. No duvets are provided, just rough army-style blankets. The pillows have long since lost any shape and the casings are frayed and torn. The sheets are really old and the towels are small, rough and hard.
My wife and I both suffer from a mild dust allergy, but being seasoned travellers we normally know what to expect and can cope well. Unfortunately, the bedrooms were teeming with dust and dust-mites. Under the beds there was a thick layer of dust and despite the owner’s protestations that she’d cleaned the apartment before our arrival, the floor had obviously not been vacuumed for weeks. We discovered why - both of the apartment’s vacuum cleaners were not working properly and only served to churn up more dust.
We were supposed to stay here a week, but we decided to leave after 5 days, as the dust situation was causing us both severe breathing difficulties and sleepless nights.
The owner recognized that we’d left the apartment in a lot cleaner state than it was on our arrival. Nevertheless she offered no compensation.
All in all a disappointing stay and we wouldn’t recommend this apartment.
