Amazing place to stay

This place is a quiet slice of home by the river, birds landing on the water and fish jumping as you sit and drink coffee on the deck outside in the morning. The inside of the house is clean and well maintained and beautifully wood finished and decorated with the outdoorsman in mind. There is everything you should need inside. If we were to visit the area again would definitely stay here again!!!!

Wonderful Place!

We had such a great time at this cabin. I was clean and in perfect shape. The furniture was new and very cozy. We are just thrilled to have found this. We will stay again for sure. My father has MS and this cabin worked great for him. Thank you!

Great location

We had a great time in Island Park for the weekend (even though the weather was colder and wetter than we would have liked). The cabin was cozy, comfortable and clean. They have done an excellent job thinking of all the little things that one might need while on vacation. The location was close to run to the little gas/grocery store if you forget something. The view of the river from the property is absolutely beautiful! We wish we could have stayed longer!!

Great family vacation!

The cabin was very comfortable inside and we enjoyed using the outdoor fire pit for roasting hot dogs and s'mores, and playing games in the large grassy yard. We visited Yellowstone, took a float trip and did some fly fishing. We had a very relaxing family vacation with 7 adults and 2 kids, ages 3 and 7. We enjoyed playing games, doing puzzles, and watching movies when just hanging out at the cabin. It was quiet and we enjoyed seeing the osprey circle and dive for dinner on the water.

A Wonderful Home Away From Home

This cabin was amazing. It had everything we needed and more. We roasted s'mores, fished, hiked, floated on tubes, visited the playbill theatre in West Yellowstone, saw amazing state and national parks - we did it all but the best part was coming home every day to a beautiful, clean, comfortable cabin everyday. Some days we just played games at the cabin and cooked together. Thank you for sharing your amazing home with us. We loved it.

Beautiful cabin, great location

We stayed in the cabin for 3 nights. Its located on a beautiful, private portion of Henry's Fork. We spent a great amount of time out on the dock fishing. Caught over 10 fish! Hardly saw any neighbors, and even enjoyed the off-and-on again rain showers throughout our stay. The home was extremely welcoming. Only a 45 minute drive to West Yellowstone, and plenty to explore close by. Considering the other rentals in Island Park, the price for this particular cabin is a bit high. Other than that, we were very pleased.

Our Yearly Vacation w/Grandkids

Everything was as advertised on the website. We had a great stay with the cabin being the jumping off point for access to Yellowstone and Island Park areas. The only setback was the weather. It was in the high 90's so we didn't get to really see much in regards to the wildlife in the Park but we did get to watch as a Bald Eagle and Osprey catch fish just off the pier from the cabin. Grandkids loved the location, especially the "stuffed" animals inside the cabin.

wonderful. at the waterfront, peaceful.

much space for at least 6 people, individually furnished, well equipped kitchen, everything clean. Great outside sitting area, large lawn, gas Barbecue. Very beautiful waterfront views, birdwatching, saw a moose 600 yds away from the house. And only about 30 mins. to Yellowstone, while all shopping is possible nearby, although expensive. And wonderful things to see and do without having to go to Yellowstone. Great hiking, canoeing, fishing. Henry's Lake and Fork, Mesa falls, Red Rock Natural Reserve... Very good advance information by the manager, unrestricted recommendation.

Wonderful

Its a wonderful Cabin wich is nice and furnished with a detailed flair. Everything you need is there. To get there, don't follow your navi, it will lead you to forest roads. We had a great time. We tried fishing with fly-rods for 2 days and didn't catch a fish. Then we bought a normal rod from the gas station store for only 20$ and we catched 5 fish on one day.

July 2015

My family had a wonderful time at this Island Park cabin. Very peaceful, lots of fun things to do in the local area. We rented ATVs to explore the many off road trails in the area. Rented a pontoon boat for a day on the reservoir. Floated down the river on a tube at Big Springs. And took a day trip to Yellowstone. The yard at this cabin is plenty big for family games, barbecues, and just hanging out for a peaceful afternoon. Our only disappointment was that the river was low for our July visit, so we couldn't use the dock for fishing and boating from the property.

Island Park

We were so excited to stay there! From the pictures of the boy fishing off of the dock and the kayaker. We drove up and went straight out to the back of the cabin.......huge disappointment! The water in the river/lake was maybe 2 ft deep, and that was out in the very middle. The rest was dry (or very deep mud). We had talked a ton with the other family staying with us about all of the fishing and kayaking the kids would be doing. We know that this isn't something the owners or management company ha control over, but maybe someone should have warned us? I am sure they worried that people would cancel or ask for refunds. We would have asked for a discounted rate! There were also a ton of earwigs by the front door and in the laundry room. We were constantly stepping not on them on the way in and out. On a good note, the rest of the cabin was nice. We enjoyed our stay, and found other things to do. If we were guaranteed a time with water and no earwigs, I think we may try it out again!

Comfortable cabin with many amenities.

We received a recommendation on this cabin from a friend whose family stayed there the previous year. We booked it a year in advance and were not disappointed. The cabin was clean and comfortable and fully stocked with everything needed to prepare meals. All we had to do was bring our food. It made a great jumping off point to West Yellowstone and Yellowstone Park, as well as area attractions in Island Park. Though Island Park reservoir was low, it did not detract from our family enjoying the cabin. Cool nights and comfortable days. We will use VRBO again when our family picks its next vacation destination. Mick Warden Weiser, Idaho

A RIVER IN YOUR BACKYARD!!

We arrived in the afternoon of July 4th, 2016 to a beautiful view - right out the back of the cabin! We sat out on the back porch every morning and evening watching the birds on the river. The cabin has plenty of outdoor furniture. Our family of 5, including 3 boys (ages 16, 13 & 10), enjoyed the large, well-maintained property and the many amenities the cabin offered. We spent the days fishing, picnicking, off-roading, hiking and canoeing around IP, then returned every evening to fish right off our private dock. We BBQ'd and roasted hot dogs/smores in the fire-pit. The boys played foosball, board games and watched 4 seasons of "Top Gear" on Netflex after sundowns. Although the cabin has plenty of puzzles, we brought our own and worked it one cozy, rainy day. Unfortunately, we dropped a few pieces through the deck and were unable to retrieve them. There is a large library of DVDs and an Atari console. My husband and I were happy to hear the boys were unable to connect it properly, as we hoped to leave video games back in California. The cabin was extremely clean and stocked with everything one could possible need. The interior is warm, cozy, and obviously well-loved by her owners. The description is accurate and I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. The cost is fair, if not lower than one would expect. I gave a 4 instead of a 5 star for a couple of things with regards to the river; both of which our out of the owners control. I've been coming to IP for over 45 years and understand its water is at the mercy of Mother Nature. The river was not at 100%. There is about 15 feet of exposed rocky shoreline we had to venture over to get to the dock. Minor, but the reason I mention it is because of the pic of the little boy fishing on the dock is not reflective of the water level we experienced July 4 - 11, 2016. Also, the watercraft was loud and took away from the beauty and pristine. They created large wakes that splashed over the dock. We didn't see any wildlife, other than birds, and I'm convinced it's because of the boats. For boat owners, the ramp is a convenient couple doors down. I could not end this review without mentioning the property manager, Shawna. She is fabulous! She is extremely quick to reply and went over and beyond what was asked of her. I had a question before we arrived and did not expect an answer for days. Not only did she get right back with me, but she snapped a photo along with her reply.

perfect place to relax by the Snake river

We very much enjoyed staying here during our 3 nights stay in late June. The back yard is big enough for our kids to play and enjoy the smore making at the fire pit. the house is equipped with lots of things for us to cook our own meal. There are lots of videos and games for kids. I like the Keurig coffee machine that makes me good coffee like at home. the owner is very quick in response to my text message. I received from the owner an information pack by post in 3+ weeks before my trip, it is very well prepared. We feel this place very warm and special to us and will love to come back.

Great cabin, great price

The cabin was great and comfortably fit 9 people 6 adults and 3 kids. Each child wanted their own bed and with the pullout sofa there are 5 beds in the house that left us one short, however the couch was so comfortable the remaining child slept just fine on it. The water level in the reservoir was perfect for our stay in mid to late June however we were told that it gets severely depleted later in the season due to local farmers. The water on a windless day is completely still, this means there is a lot of plant growth and also a fair amount of mosquitoes, with citronella candles and bug repellent they left us alone, without we were practically a buffet for them. We left additional trip ideas in the visitors log if anyone is interested in venturing out.

Convenient, clean, roomy, but cozy

The house is spacious and very clean. It had everything we needed. The written directions were helpful. There was a binder in the cabin with a thoughtful note and useful information. We were greeted with a gift of smore ingredients which was very sweet. Me and my family really enjoyed our stay.

Beauty - Ultimate experience

The best view we had recently. Dock, awesome backyard and enough space and nice lake view. The cabin was clean, easily accessible and not too far from the stores. Decent cell phone signals. Really good place to stay with kids. Reason for 4 stars - Really slow wifi. We rented the cabin for 3 nights. After second night we completely lost connectivity.

RENTING IT FOR THE THIRD TIME:)

We love this house. The location is perfect for our families to get together. Our married daughters drive in from Bozeman and Pocatello. We drive from Jackson Hole. The house has EVERYTHING. Shawna is a wonderful Property Manager and takes very good care of us. We are hoping to rent the house next summer for a week to enjoy water activities. Rancho McCrea is off the beaten track in Island Park. Much more enjoyable than Bill's Island, especially on the weekends. Rent it..........you won't regret it. Lana Crabtree

Host profile image
We are dryland wheat and barley farmers in Montana (about 2 hours away). Due to our busy summer schedule we can't spend a lot of time here, so we are happy to offer the cabin to people who can utilize it and enjoy all the wonderful things to do nearby. I grew up in Michigan where my family had a cottage on AuSable Lake that was built by my Dad and Grandpa (my oldest brother still owns it). I spent a lot of time there in the summers, and occasionally in the winter. I have many fond memories from swimming, boating, fishing and trying to get photos of my favorite bird - the Loon. Both of my parents have passed away, but after they were gone, I began to reflect on my childhood. I spoke often of the cabin to my husband and finally got him to Michigan to spend a few weeks there in the summer and he began to understand why the cottage meant so much to me. So when the opportunity to provide our 2 boys (born in 2003 and 2005) with a similar growing up experience that I had, I was all for it! I just needed to get my hubby on board too!

Why they chose this property

Island Park?.... a friend of mine bought a cabin here and was telling me about it and the area one day on the ski lift at Bridge Bowl in Bozeman, Montana. It sounded like an awesome place, so I started looking a bit online for places that were for sale (much to my husbands dismay!) We looked at a few places and they were okay. But when we walked into this cabin, and I saw the Loon out front in the water, that was it for me. The layout would work well for our family and would work well for us when we are older and retire there. The high ceilings was the clincher for Dan. Lots of room on those walls to put some mounts! There had only been one family that had owned this cabin and he had built it too. A lot of things were very similar to the AuSable Lake Cottage. The cabin became ours in April of 2014.

What makes this property unique

We absolutely love Yellowstone National Park and go there a few times every year (usually in the Spring to see the babies and the Fall for the big bull elk sightings). Dan's Grandma has been to Yellowstone every year of her life from the age of 13 to her mid 90's. She was born in 1917 and has great stories to tell about the early days of The Park. We are trying to continue that tradition with our kids. They have been there every year since they were born. With the cabin it is now even easier for us to explore and look for animals. Big Springs is awesome to kayak down (and usually see moose) and you have to go see Johnny's Sacks Cabin. The Playhouse at Mack's Inn is a great family outing. If you don't feel like putting something on the BBQ there is a variety of restaurants nearby. There are hundreds of miles of 4-wheeler trails and snowmobiling trails, just a few steps outside of our door. Places to rent all of these 'toys' are nearby too! And if you have a boat there is a boat ramp located just 2 cabins down from ours that is strictly for Rancho McCrea residents and guests only.
We sure hope that you and your family will enjoy this cabin and the incredible surrounding area as much as we do! Enjoy and create some everlasting family memories here!
