Great mountain cabin!

My husband, 3 year old daughter, 2 dogs, and I stayed at the cabin for a weekend getaway and really enjoyed our stay. The cabin is roomy and comfortable and close to town. The yard was very spacious - our daughter loved exploring it and our dogs loved the space for running after tennis balls. We'd definitely stay there again!

Wonderful place to stay

The cabin was cozy and clean, with everything we needed and many nice touches throughout the house. We arrived to find a friendly welcome note with snacks, and the host communicated well, making an extra effort when I was difficult to reach. The property itself was lovely, with several options of nice places to sit outside, beautiful, majestic trees, and nice views. The location is ideal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and recommend it without hesitation.

What a lovely cabin! We had such a nice, relaxing weekend just spending time together in a cozy home. Sitting on the deck grilling steaks and listening to music with our pup was exactly what we needed to recharge on our long weekend getaway. Classic mountain cabin- loved it!

We had a relaxing few days at the Trott cabin. Easy access to skiing, about 30 minutes away and it was terrific. We had 5 adult size people and our dog and we were completely comfortable. The power was out for a few hours, but the wood stove kept us warm and we even warmed up dinner on it too. The owners took good care to check in on us while the power was out and make sure we were ok. We loved our stay and plan to return.

Great place

Couldn't have been happier with everything. The place is super clean, and the property is immaculate. very comfortable. Very cool history. Solid WiFi. Privacy, for sure, but close to great food at Chair 9 and supplies at Graham's. The view of Church Mountain from the living room and upper deck (and the fun trail up to the top) is better than the pictures, and it's a short drive to Baker.

My husband loved sitting out of the deck after our morning hikes on the mountain. The house had everything we needed and more. Renate kept us informed and up to date on what to expect and what we needed. She even had dog towels, bowls, and treats for our Golden. We highly recommend this place!

Life in the Forest

This cozy, clean, and solidly built cabin is an ideal location for a ski trip to Mt. Baker. Well appointed kitchen, host even supplied ground coffee for the coffee maker. Lovely living room space with all you need to build a fire. We enjoyed the old school receiver, speakers and CD player, great collection of old CDs. Internet was quite serviceable for our needs. You are truly in the forest here with no evidence of neighbors although you are just a couple minutes from the local bakery. Really could not ask for a better situation for our group for the long weekend!

Cozy location for a beautiful cabin

The owners have perfect directions to find the cabin. Was blown away by what a beautiful property this cabin sits on, the cabin is tucked a bit back from the road so you get a great feeling of privacy. The cabin is very cozy, had a very homey welcoming feel. Well stocked with everything you need for cooking and bathing, even has some towels for your dog if they get wet. I was not in the cabin for even an hour before I knew I was going to want to come back again and again. The views are gorgeous, not even some low hanging clouds could ruin the beauty of the views. Highly recommend visiting this cabin!

Homey, comfortable cabin

Our family of four, including kids ages 9 and 14, and the family dog, had a relaxing time at the cabin. It is private, yet close to the town of Glacier. The cabin had everything we needed to make meals, and the beds were quite comfy. We visited long enough to try out all the restaurants in town too. We found them all yummy, so if you don't feel like cooking, you don't have to. The cabin is also nearby to many nice trails. We enjoyed a walk along the Horseshoe bend Trail. We also enjoyed a day of skiing at Mt Baker. We'd love to return sometime and experience the cabin in the summer!

Excellent cabin close to Mt. Baker!

This cabin was awesome! We loved staying here. We came to ski at Mt. Baker, and this was about as close as you can get to the mountain (30 minute drive). The cabin was super convenient to the ski shop in Glacier and the bakery nearby was excellent (thanks for the recommendation!). We brought our two dogs with us, and there was plenty of snow for them to run around in outside, and a great amount of space inside for the two of them plus four humans. The cabin was well-appointed, with comfy beds, a good movie collection, and everything we needed in the kitchen. My only complaint is that once we used up the roll of paper towels, we couldn't find a new one. But we didn't look very hard. We would definitely stay here again!!

Lovely Forest Preserve With Awesome Views!

Me and my guests just completed a wonderful trip to this delightful forested preserve of a property. It was cozy and inviting, with comfortable beds, piping hot showers in demand, and a gorgeous view of Church Mountain. We cooked delicious meals together with a full kitchen, and played on the large rotating Scrabble board both nights. We could have watched some fun looking titles of the film selection, but had too much fun just playing and reading. It is great to have good reading lights above each bed. We discovered the long railway easement road across the highway opposite the cabin which takes you through a lovely moss covered walk all the way into Glacier, where we enjoed a muffin and coffee at the Wakenbake Bakery and Cafe. The helpful signs the host put up gave us good instructions about how best to manage this lovely secluded cabin in the woods. And it was SO quiet, we could hear owls!

Wonderful Memorial Day Weekend

My wife and I rented this cabin for Memorial Day Weekend of 2019, along with our two dogs. We had a wonderful time. The cabin was very clean and the location was great for us to enjoy multiple day hikes in the nearby mountains. We woke up to some great mountain views and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the cabin. We cooked dinner and breakfast, as the cabin had everything we needed. Although just off the main road through Glacier, it was still plenty quiet. It was nice being close to the small town where we were able to stop by a bakery, get some basic essential groceries, and eat at a local pizza spot. The cabin is on a park like setting which my super active dogs readily enjoyed. Renate was very communicative throughout the process and was there to answer any questions that we had. All instructions were easy and straight forward. Thanks to Renate and her husband for a wonderful weekend! -Adam

You Will Not Find A Better Property For Your Annual Vacation

We were lucky enough to find this gorgeous place a few years ago. We have come back several times now and just spent an entire week. It was blissful! The Otto Trott Cabin is paradise. As you drive in you begin to realize that you have found your own private park. Strolling around the grounds you can see snow capped peaks and endless trees. Framing the aforementioned items you'll spot butterflies, blooms, and berries. The views from inside the cabin are just as amazing, and every window offers some ideal nature view. This is a very clean rental and there are mats for shoes outside. Nice hot shower, comfy beds, and nice stocked kitchen make it even better. The upstairs master has an outdoor platform for viewing wildlife, and the peacefulness here is supreme. We did some meditation, yoga, and artwork at this spot every morning. In the past we've seen owl, heron, and eagle from here. Hummingbirds and butterflies are also friendly and will come right up to you. This slice of serenity is beautifully maintained by the owners who are the nicest people you'll ever come across, honestly. They're highly knowledgable and can tell you everything about the history of the area. Very easy to work with and masterful practitioners of conservation. If you want to recharge and unwind, just get to Otto's place and nature will do the rest.

About the host

Host profile image
This cabin has given me intimate access to the natural beauty of the rainforest. Sharing it with new guests makes it more meaningful because it has such a positive impact on everyone who visits. This property is magical, wild and unspoiled.
I am one of the daughters of the late Otto T. Trott M.D. who was a Mt. Baker Ski Patrol physician and co founder of Mountain Rescue. Seattle Mountain Rescue just celebrated the 75th year anniversary honoring the three founders. Dr. Trott was an early founder of the national ski patrol as well.
I volunteered as a ski patrol at Mt. Baker, as did my entire family. I learned to ski when I could walk and enjoyed deep snow falls in the 60's and 70's. Our family had a cabin for 25 years up at the ski area before it was developed and we had the entire place to ourselves most of the time. It was so beautiful in the old days and full of wildlife and clean clear lakes and streams you could drink from.
Now my husband and I maintain the rainforest property for wildlife and our guests in the newer cabin near Glacier. I hope you will enjoy this historic, rustic and charming cabin with views of Church Mountain, giant cedars and wild berries. This cabin is in the banana belt which is why Mt. Baker gets record snow falls. The weather off of the Straits of Juan de Fuca also keeps the rain forest lush and green throughout the Spring and Summer.

Why they chose this property

My family used to have a cabin at the ski area before the area was developed. The old cabin at the ski area was built onto the dressing room used in the movie "call of the Wild" with Clark Gable and Loretta Young. We had the cabin for 25 years and when the state government tore it down we built another cabin in the town of Glacier because we were an active ski patrol and ski instructor family, especially my father, Dr. Trott who was needed every weekend to attend injured skiers, climbers and other mountain disasters. It is a shame that it was not preserved as a museum because it was so cool. We had to dig stairs down in the deep snow ( 40 feet ) to reach the door to the cabin. Back then there were wolves, bear, cougar, marmots, martins, owls, ravines and all kinds of mountain creatures. It was heaven.

What makes this property unique

The property has lovely mountain views, is totally private and in a large intact rainforest. When you visit this place it feels like the world is far away and the peace and natural beauty creates relaxation. Sometimes wildlife will visit and leave a variety of animal prints after a fresh snowfall. I love spending Christmas and New years at this cabin. The views of Church Mountain are breathtaking in all seasons.
