About this property

Fun for up to 4 guests.

Located at the quiet, western edge of Marfa, comfortable, private and peaceful, this great little Marfa abobe is the perfect spot for you to isolate, get-away and enjoy the high desert views of West Texas. On-site parking, entire house which is not attached to any other structure. Concrete floors and high ceilings, air conditioned, heated and has wifi and nice star gazing from courtyard.
Two bedrooms:
- 1 bedroom downstairs with a queen sized bed.
-1 cozy upstairs loft bedroom with a queen sized bed. There are stairs going to the upstairs. (See pics). If someone is staying upstairs and they need to use the bathroom all through the night, they will have to come down the stairs to do so. The bathroom is on the ground floor.
House is most comfortable for no more than 4 guests.
Full kitchen with all appliances and utensils for meals.
Full bath with rain head shower.
Lofty ceilings
There is a large, flat screen "smart TV" which is mainly used for dvd viewing. There is a fun selection of DVD’s but there is no cable tv. You may use to the TV for Netflix etc by signing in if you have an account. There is no solid guarantee on wifi streaming speeds.
WIFI - There is wifi at the house.
Some views of the Davis Mountains from the property and from upstairs.
Courtyard with distant mountain views and a fun small soaking tub (this is a handmade, “cowboy”, rustic outdoor tub with both hot and cold water.)
Comfy chairs inside can be moved outside for wonderful star viewing.

The historic Paisano Hotel, Marfa Book Company and galleries in the center of town are a 3 minute drive away, though many guests enjoy walking to downtown, about 20 minutes. Several fun restaurants are walking distance, less than 5 blocks away.

A few minute's walk from the Cemetery Merced at the end of the street, Convenience West BBQ and The Water Stop. That area is high on the western edge of town, a nice place to watch the sunset, with nice views of the ranch lands and plenty of distant mountains. The railroad runs though Marfa. You will see the train from the house back yard and from upstairs. Please read what every other homeowner in Marfa has written about the train. It is the reason there is a town in the middle of the desert.

You will interact with me when booking the property - I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have in advance of your visit. At the property, you'll let yourself in, and will have phone numbers for the house manager who will be able to troubleshoot if you happen to need assistance during reasonable hours of your stay, not at 1:00 am. Please keep in mind, this is a website which offers people's homes for rent. This is not a hotel with 24hr concierge service.

PETS - Guests must get prior approval before bringing any pets to property. Dogs under 50 lbs are more than likely to be ok'd by home owner. Pet owner is totally responsible for any and all clean-up and will be charged for any damages.

Due to the city wide "burn ban" which is in effect, there are no outdoor fires allowed at this time.

Check-in time is 4:00 pm unless we have guests departing the same day as your arrival at which time check-in will be 5:00 pm.

As a concerned homeowner, I have implemented strict cleaning and sanitizing procedures for my house. We want to assure our guests that every precaution is being taken by our cleaning team to provide a safe, relaxing and comfortable stay in Marfa. We ask that all renters please adhere to social distancing and wearing masks when entering public spaces within our area.
Renters must check with VRBO for details on any refunds due to Covid-19 virus cancellations. Not all reservations are eligible for full refunds.

EXCELLENT property and host

Terry built this home with his own hands. Much of the furniture and art was also built/created by him. We were very impressed with the house, and level of communication from the host. Would definitely stay here again!

Desert Oasis

My kids and I really loved staying here! We are Texas natives that have never been to the desert, and were surprised at how cool it was in the evenings and impressed how long it stayed cool during the hot Texas days. We loved the area and were so glad to have this place as our home base! My daughter has a food allergy, so restaurants can be tough for us, but this kitchen had every conceivable amenity for us to cook our meals. The kids loved the loft! A great family getaway!

West Marfa

We loved this home because it's not the usual, we like eclectic and artsy. Sitting outside at night to star gaze was great. The place was very well stocked! The sheets were nice and soft, only thing we would have liked different was a king bed,

Very quaint and comfortable.

This property was perfect for our family of 4 and home base for our W Texas adventures. The house offers you a chance to live inside a work of art! It’s been featured in many art/design publications and a perfect representation of Marfa!

Cozy Little Getaway

The property was lovely! Everything we could need was provided. The down comforter was a nice edition for those cold desert nights. However, the shower was a little rough. The old fixtures and pipes were beautiful but stationary. Just anticipate getting your hair wet even if you don’t want to. All in all it was a great stay! Thanks for having us!

Great place to stay in Marfa!

If you’re going to Marfa, stay here! This house has everything you need for a comfortable stay and is very well decorated. I loved that it’s on the edge of town, so it was quiet, and I could see so many stars, even the Milky Way, at night while lounging in the backyard. Dining out in Marfa is hit or miss, so I really appreciated having a full kitchen with everything I could possibly need to make meals. I would absolutely stay here again.

Unpretentious Marfa

This place is beautiful and comfortable. On the out skirts of Marfa, but, as someone who has traveled to Marfa a dozen time or more, that is a good thing - and all of Marfa is walkable from the location.

Amazing!

A beautifully appointed home, absolutely perfect. Amazing artwork, desert landscapes, God’s work shining through in the sunrises and sunsets. Quirky Marfa is a picture in contrasts, and the Marfa mystery lights are real! Great base for day trips to Big Bend area. I loved it.

Artsy Cool Place to Stay in Marfa

Our stay at this property was great! The convenience of location within tiny Marfa and close(ish) proximity to National Parks was a plus. The artsy decor and vintage house fit quirky Marfa perfectly! Excellent communication with property owner. We spent most of our time in Big Bend NP, so we didn’t actually prepare any meals at the house, but the kitchen is fully equipped and ready for guests. One night when we got home late, there looked to be a javelina in the back yard! Pretty sure that’s what we saw. Made our stay in the TX desert complete!

Great Getaway

We loved this property! It was clean and well maintained. We loved that it was kind of on the edge of town. The backyard was perfect for morning meditation and star gazing. Only downside to this property was the wifi wasn’t great. We took it as an opportunity to unplug. Highly recommend this property!

Unique artist getaway with everything!

We loved our stay at Terry's adobe! The house, the art, the books and decor were so thoughtfully put together and we felt immediately comfortable there. We cooked the entire time and Terry had everything we needed (and a lot more!) The bed was super comfy, the rain shower was fun and we loved watching Giant again on DVD! Terry's place is in a fabulous location on the edge of town, yet close enough to walk. Stargazing was incredible right outside the back door on the comfy chairs. Terry has done a wonderful job of making sure you have EVERYTHING you need and making sure your experience at his home is a memorable one! Perfect way to get away during these crazy times. Thanks Terry!

About the host

Hosted by Terry Nowell

Host profile image
I bought an adobe ruin in Marfa in 1997 after locating the run-down shell of a house with the help of some friends. I've worked on it for quite a few years attempting to make it into a super comfy retreat at the edge of town in Marfa.

Why they chose this property

At the very edge of town, yet walkable to some restaurants, dirt roads behind the house, along the railroad and into a nearby historic cemetery. This rustic adobe artist's space allows you to experience the real feel of West Texas in an extremely comfortable dwelling.

What makes this property unique

Nicely equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, very unique handmade house. We try to keep Big Bend coffee in the house for your use unless you are there for an extended stay.
The house is in a real, very safe Marfa neighborhood that has older and less manicured adobe homes, a cemetery at the end of the street and is "rustically" West Texas.
