About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Great Family Vacation

The house was better than advertised, especially for multiple families. The kitchen is large and the beds were comfortable. Communication was great with the property management company and we loved that we were already in the park the whole trip and could decide where to go each day without a long wait!

Winter Wonderland

We have rented at Wawona many times and this was one of the best. Cedar Chalet was very well equipped. It was warm and comfortable and everything worked. We definitely would stay here again. BTW early December is a great time to visit Yosemite if you like to see the park without the hordes of visitors.

Just like home.

We were a group of 8. We all had a wonderful time in this great home with plenty of space for all. Very comfortable and everything works. Redwood property management even checks the hot tub every other day. Also very friendly office staff with easy checking in and checkout. We would definitely stay here again.

Well stocked kitchen and friendly check in service. My experience was very good overall considering a three-day weekend. The rental met my expectations for a large family - 10 members. We had no time for TV or VCR - Too busy with outdoor activities.

Great location for hiking Yosemite

This house was clean and cozy. Kitchen was very well equipped for cooking and serving a crowd. Plenty of cups and utensils!! We had seven adults for a family reunion. Everyone loved getting in the hot tub after hiking. The porch was perfect for happy hour. Only negative was no air conditioning and upstairs bedroom got a little warm. Most of the time we were too pooped to notice! House situated inside Park, so no waiting in line at entrance! Very convenient.

Cedar Chalet was very well-appointed and comfortable. The house was roomy and perfect for a national park getaway. We were 7 adults, and everyone felt the same as I did - that we would absolutely recommend the house and location to others visiting the park. The office staff were very kind and accommodating as well! We're from Georgia, and booking a house so far from home, based only from information provided on the internet, it is very stressful, so I am very thankful that everything worked out as we expected, and that it was a great vacation all around. Thanks so much.

Perfect layout for groups and families

We really enjoyed our stay at the 41A cabin. We had 5 adults and 2 teens in our group and the layout worked really well for us. Plenty of space and bathrooms. Some how when we booked this cabin we didn’t notice that it does not have AC. So I wouldn’t recommend this cabin in the summer. The downstairs cooled down at night but the upstairs bedroom was pretty uncomfortable at night. Otherwise a great choice for your Yosemite vacation!

Larger than what appears

Pictures don’t do the place justice. It is larger than we expected. The kitchen was large enough for 3/4 people doing different things. Kitchen table fit everyone comfortably. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could think of. We had someone in a wheelchair and there was ample space for him to get around. We did not notice there was a step to get into the living room before booking but worked out fine. The entryway, kitchen and bedroom with the bunk beds was all on the same level so he was able to stay in his chair the whole time except for the steps getting from driveway to front door (which we knew about before booking).

Perfect Yosemite Location

Just back from an amazing week in Yosemite. We loved the rental, as it was just inside the park, without being in the chaos of the actual valley. It was clean, airy, and roomy. Just what we needed. Thank you!

Great setup

This house is great for multiple families because there are two separated sleeping areas. We were disappointed that the hot tub did not work as that was one of the big reasons we chose this home.

Great Cabin

This cabin is Great! My family of 5 was able to fit in the bedroom w/bunk beds and 3 other couples in the other 3 bedrooms. The kitchen had many kitchen needs (Coffee maker, pans, measuring cups, bowls, all needed necessities!) Bathrooms had plenty of towels, the fireplaces worked, plenty of bedding and extra blankets if you need them! The cabin is within the Park so about an hour drive to Yosemite Valley and about an hour to Glacier Point! Hot Tub was working, so it was great sitting in the tub in the evening after hiking all day! Over all, bring your food and just enjoy it!

Has everything you need

I was a little bit skeptical when I first saw the cabin from the outside, but once you step inside it feels like home. It's big enough for multiple families to share. It is so spacious! The only complaint is the 2 queen bed bedrooms downstair can hear every footstep that happens upstairs in the master, but that's a given with any 2 story.

Great home with all the amenities. Hot tub very relaxing after a day in Yosemite Valley.

Great for our family of 10- 6 adults and 4 kids. Separate area for kids let them play games and stay up a little later and not bother the adults.

6/10 Okay

An Uneven Experience

The cabin itself is beautiful, spacious and well-located. HOWEVER, If you rent this place, be aware it lacks many benefits of a typical VRBO/AirBnB, and comes with additional conditions/expenses. For instance: --Even if you rent this (expensive) cabin, each car must pay the $30 entrance fee to the park (so potentially an extra $120 or so); --During certain months--even if the forecast is 60 and sunny--you are required to have chains for your car. Chains are not returnable at stores, so buy them in advance on-line or from Craigslist (more extra $$$); --Check in time is excessively late (4pm) and check out excessively early (10am), so unlike a standard rental you lose about 3-4 hours of rental time; --You pick up the keys at the office, which closes at 5pm, so only an hour window between check in and closing. After 5pm (again, unlike a regular airbnb) no one is available to answer questions or provide assistance. Keys are left outside, and anything you might need (fire kindling, extra towels) etc. will be unavailable until the next day. (In our case, they handwrote a note on the key envelope that the oven was broken, and that it might be repaired the next day, and that a convection oven had been placed on the counter instead.); --Not even basic condiments are provided: salt, pepper, ketchup, sugar, oil, etc. Not even those of previous guests are allowed to remain. No paper towels or napkins--just one sponge and two sad dishtowels. Disappointing, and a problem for guests who flew in; --The extensive regulatory documents and excessive signatures required are laughably hostile; it's like TSA is running park hospitality. In case you ever wondered how a federal bureaucracy would operate VBRO, here's your chance! (Our cabin seemed to be privately owned, so not sure how that partnership works.) The office staff were quite nice, though the atmosphere and interactions felt more similar to those at a KOA campground. But when you drop $600+ a night on a cabin, should you really feel like you're roughing it? Some notes/recommendations for improvement (from everyone in our party): --Dishes in top rack of dishwasher don't get clean (another review mentioned this); --Only one bath towel per person is provided. No one wants to use that for the hot tub as well. Provide at least two please. --If there's a problem/change with something in the rental (like broken oven) please email beforehand. A 3-star that could have been a 5.

Amazing

Had a wonderful time with family! Cabin was beautiful , clean and spacious as always. Furnished nicely. The spa was an added treat. Property management came by daily to test chemical balance. Looking forward to another year! Thank you to the owners who so graciously open their wonderful home for a visit in this little piece of paradise that we call Yosemite.
