About this property

The Trullo Piccolo... an Italian gem

The original accommodation:
Making full use of the original trulli constructions, the two cones of Trullo Piccolo, a fully detached immaculate Tree Honeymoon House and a Stone Villa rise proudly from the stunning countryside outside Alberobello. And when hunger comes, after a day of relaxing in the plunge pools, a quick stroll down a country lane will take you to a local trattoria, serving delicious Puglian food… to eat in or take home!

Inside: accommodation at Trullo Piccolo is spread over one trulli building, one wood building and one glass building. The larger of the three, the trulli, has two cones divided into living and sleeping areas, which feature traditional creamy stone walls, two high conical ceilings and, through an arch, a separate shower room.
The second building, the White Wood House, has been built with an immaculate white timber throughout the interior and exterior walls. It features a double bedroom and a large walk-in shower room with a skylight and a concertina door, surrounded by olive trees. The third building, the Glass Veranda, has a kitchen with a table for 8.
In all buildings the original features and stone/wood/glass structures have been kept intact as much as possible and furnishing and fittings complement these aspects with minimalist rusti-chic panache.

Outside: Trullo Piccolo features a delightful plunge pool set amongst a series of lawns, dotted with olive trees and criss-crossed by dry-stone walls and gravel paths, one of which takes you down to the lovely Glass Veranda Kitchen, situated just below the trulli building and offering views over the gentle surrounding countryside. Closer to the house are a series of sitting areas and an al fresco dining area for those long summer dinners! One of the features of the Trullo Piccolo Residence is a spectacular 12x3 meters infinity pool.

The Villa:
The property has doubled its space since 2017, with a new stone lamia building, which houses two double bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, living area and a kitchen under a stone volt.

wonderful place, great time

this is a beautiful property in the middle of the valle d'itria the owner Davide is very responsive and kind the location cannot be beat as it is within 30-40 minutes, or much less, to all the towns to see. polignano, monopoli, ceglie, ostuni, alberobello(5 minutes) etc the furthest was bari vecchia at an hour aside from location the place itself is pristine, 2 pools (cold water:)) 4 separate bedrooms each with bath, a fabulous well stocked kitchen with vistas of olive groves etc we had many lunches out and then had dinner outdoors in the villa with a roaring fire pit going and he has a five seater mini cooper on the property to rent!! we will definitely be back kudos to Davide for offering this special place

Was für ein wunderbarer Ort!

Wir können diese Unterkunft uneingeschränkt empfehlen! Purer Luxus - geschmackvoll eingerichtet! Grazie mille!

Stunning place to stay

We loved Trulli Piccolo very much indeed. I travelled with my husband and grown up children and we all thoroughly enjoyed our time at the villa (villa is an understatement given the three gorgeous buildings comprising this place to stay). The property was comfortable and well-equipped. The infinity pool area is so relaxing and the pool lovely to swim in - we swam every day for both exercise and play! The beds were comfortable with lovely cotton linen - I slept better at Trulli Piccolo than I do at home. We were met by Anna who gave us a warm welcome to the house and was then on hand through our stay for any questions. She is such a lovely person and a great cook - her meatballs were something else! We enjoyed our pizza evening with Anna and Antonella with her husband acting as a perfect pizzaiolo in charge of the oven. The pizzas were delicious, of course. Puglia is a wonderful area to explore and we were able to travel to the towns, villages and beaches near and quite far - Ostuni, Lecce, Ionian coast, Monopoli, Polignano sur Mare, Matera and, of course, the picturesque (if a little touristy) Alberobello. Local restaurants offered delicious food but we also took advantage of the well-equipped kitchen and stayed in a few nights making simple Italian dishes using local (and home-grown) produce. We struggled a little with the Italian way of life - eating at 10 pm or later is just not our thing ... still, eating a little earlier did mean we were able to secure restaurant reservations pretty easily. Overall, we can thoroughly recommend Davide's wonderful property as an ideal place to stay and explore the region. A car is essential but there are plenty of places to visit within a short drive. The bikes Davide provides were a welcome opportunity to explore without driving. Communication with Davide and Anna prior to our arrival was swift and helpful. Can't recommend highly enough - give it a try!

Peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful setting

Our family just spent a wonderful week at TRULLO Piccolo. The accommodations exceeded our expectations and the House was well equipped and perfect for our needs. The host was super responsive to any questions we had and gave us great area recommendations for beaches, towns, and restaurants to check out. Had a lovely evening at home with a chef prepared pizza dinner and delicious vegetables from the amazing garden on the property. Overall we had a wonderful visit and I’d highly reccommend staying there!

We really did enjoy our stay, but........

This is a great property, or has the potential to be, if it is maintained properly. When you pay high-end prices, you expect high-end service and this property just falls a little bit short. However, I expect that matters will be rectified and all will be well in the future. The house itself is good, the location is great - nice and quiet - yet not far from the town itself. I sure hope the owner gets the "small stuff" sorted - as it is important in the long run. Except for the Trullo house itself, not for people who can't sleep in the light, as there really are no curtains that block the light. Best wishes for the future.

Peace, tranquillity and designer bliss

Trullo Piccolo is truly unique. The four-acre grounds originally included just the trullo - the curious, cone-shaped buildings found in their hundreds in Alberobello - and then the architect owner restored the trullo, forming a cozy bedroom and sitting area plus small shower room, added an outside glass-walled kitchen, a seating area under a gazebo, a pool and a separate white-walled double bedroom and bathroom. If that wasn't enough, 2017 saw the further addition of a second (infinity) pool and a high-spec villa that includes a superb double bedroom with vaulted ceiling and ensuite, a spacious and well equipped kitchen/dining room, and a separate bedroom and ensuite suitable for children. Overall, Trullo Piccolo can sleep 8, and it's the way the rooms and facilities are spread around as a sort of complex that makes it so unusual and also so desirable for one or more families who don't necessarily all want to sleep under the same roof, but do want to come together to eat and socialise. As there were just the two of us, we felt utterly indulged by the space, which is also so private (once the security cameras are switched off) that clothes can be discarded, if one so chooses. With regard to the specific facilities in the villa, we particularly appreciated the excellent induction hob (a big want for our next property), the efficient air-con and the dishwasher. The 50 inch TV in the bedroom is currently set up for internet TV only and so doesn't have access to terrestrial or satellite channels. WiFi is available throughout Trullo Piccolo, but in the villa itself we found it more reliable outside than inside. One facility missing from the villa is a sitting area and we had to bring in chairs from outside when it was too chilly. The local Codon supermarket has just about everything needed for self-catering, with the exception of fresh fish. The nearest trattoria, Glu Ulivi, serves tasty local food at good prices and it's sufficiently laid-back that one doesn't feel a fool trying one's limited Italian. Alberobello is exceptionally quaint, but there's no escaping that it's top of the list for coachloads of tourists.

About the host

Hosted by Davide Padoa

Host profile image
I am an architect who lives in London since 1998. Italian born from Milan, I discovered Puglia in 2006 and felt in love with the primitive tranquility, the food, the air. My wife is a sculptress, I love photography and nothing beats the light quality of Puglia. Our two daughters have been bringing friends to Trullo Piccolo.

Why they chose this property

A perfect family choice when you are looking for true tranquility. Kids will pick up fruits and vegetables from the one hectare (4 acres) private garden; listen to music, stream videos from a fully internet equipped property and enjoy a 7 x 3 meters pool.
With the latest addition Trullo Piccolo will literally double and will become ideal for a large family or two families travelling together.

What makes this property unique

The white stone of the Trulli has a spectacular contrast with the blue Puglia sky. Our Trulli are on top of a hill, so the view is vast and pure, with other trulli dotted around the countryside. I designed the property to add the other rooms as far as possible from the original Trulli building to encourage every guest to live a continues indoor/outdoor experience.
