About this property

Lovely house with large garden & private pool in heart of Minervois

Until Covid-19 hit and I my bookings were affected, I was one of the top holiday homes in the area of Carcassonne on HomeAway, regularly placing at number 1 or 2. I was also a 'Premier Partner'. However, all this hard work has been lost!
This is a beautiful stone built semi-detached house. Around 200 years old in the village of Azillanet. There's a large garden (400m2), private swimming pool (8m x 4m), stone terrace and dining area and a spectacular old fig tree with a swing. The garden is south facing, so catches the sun throughout the day. The property has been sympathetically restored and tastefully furnished, retaining its original burnished oak floors and beamed ceilings. 3 large bedrooms, (one with a ladder-staircase & under-eaves sleeping), a newly refurbished bathroom and a superb open landing area are upstairs. Air conditioning has just been installed in 2 of the bedrooms. Downstairs there's another bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a generous living-dining space. Beautiful views of the village and countryside can be seen from the garden and all upstairs rooms.
The village boulangerie & cafe, 3 wine caves and two local restaurants are a few minutes stroll.

It's great to cycle through the vineyards surrounding the village. Walking and hiking trails also surround the village. Lake swimming (Lac Jouarres) is 10 min drive away, fantastic river swimming is within a 20 min drive (Agel). A supermarket, banks, cafes and other shops are only 5 minutes away in Olonzac. The fabulous Cathar village of Minerve is the next village, just over 3km away and the Unesco world heritage site of the Canal du Midi is about 5km away. The beaches of the Mediterranean are about a 35 minute drive and the old walled city of Carcassonne is a 25 minute drive. The nearest airports are Carcassonne and Beziers (40 minutes), Perpignan (1hr), Montpellier (1hr 15min) and Toulouse (1hr 45min).

Fabulous property in a tranquil setting
The property was perfect for our family of four. It's beautifully decorated and furnished, and had everything we needed. We only used the bedrooms on the first floor, where the air-con was a major bonus. Beds very comfy too. The saline pool was fantastic - very gentle on eyes, skin and swimwear. Azillanet is a lovely, typically sleepy French village. Sadly, when we visited in July, there were no open restaurants. That said, there are quite a few good eateries in the area and we can highly recommend the little van which visits every Tuesday evening and sells delicious wood-fired pizzas!

Lovely pool and facilities
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, the house was extremely well kitted out and the fans provided were gratefully received, especially in night time temperatures of 27 degrees. The house was clean as was the pool and surrounding space. The pool was used daily and was probably the nicest pool I have been in due to the salt water not being harsh on the skin and eyes. The garden furniture was perfect and all in all I would say the house and pool are exactly what I was hoping. Only down side to the stay was the number of bites we got from the moment we arrived, nothing to do with the quality of the house and pool but irritating all the same. The area is lovely and I would definitely recommend Carcassonne and Minerve.

Relaxing Week in Minervois
My husband and I, our 11- and 13-year-old children, and my parents all enjoyed our week in the heart of Minervois. The house is indeed lovely and otherwise as described. We especially liked the pool and garden and spent most of our time outside, breakfasting and dining poolside everyday. The house is very attractively restored, with tasteful and comfortable furnishings. It has functional modern conveniences, including a new kitchen, and was clean and well maintained. We used the first-floor bathroom with shower instead of the other because the other has a transparent door and also an old-fashioned though charming tub. The caretakers live on the other side of this duplex and are very friendly and helpful. They made suggestions on what to do and see and what to avoid, recommended restaurants, and even provided tips on avoiding traffic. They were always available when we needed a minor repair or some advice. I would recommend this property to families, with or without children, who are looking for a stay in a typical Minervois village with proximity to interesting sites. The nearby sites that we enjoyed most were the historically significant and scenic village of Minerve; Aigne, a village built as a "circulade"; and an interesting tour of a nearby olive oil cooperative. All of these were within 15 minutes of the house. A little further, perhaps 35 minutes, is Carcassonne, the popular medieval fortress. We also enjoyed seeing the village of Lagrasse and Fontfroide Abbey.

A beautiful home in idillic surroundings
We had the most wonderful holiday in Suzanne’s property. Everything was exactly as described (the only thing we couldn’t find was the first aid kit). Suzanne was very easy to communicate with both before and during our stay. The house is set in tranquil surroundings and I am very much hoping to go again! Absolutely loved it.

Beautifully restored stone cottage with an excellent saltwater swimming pool, ideal for kids. Well equipped throughout and very comfortable. Air conditioning in the two main bedrooms, though not the top floor bedroom which was very hot for the children during our visit. Beautiful area with plentiful wineries to visit and history / culture in abundance at Minerve and Carcassonne. Do take precautions against insect bites, especially mosquitoes which were a regular menace during our stay!

Azillanet review
The property was perfect for our holiday. The saltwater pool was so nice to come back to after a bike ride and touring around. Location was great. So close to so many places within a short distance. Unfortunately the flies and mosquitoes were bad this year so we weren't really able to enjoy any outdoor eating. Suzanne was very responsive to our needs. We all really appreciated that. In addition, she had easy to follow directions and instructions for the house, especially how to use the stove, oven and other appliances. Thank you for that. We have stayed in other locations where those were not available. Thanks for making your home available.

Family getaway in south france
Me, my wife and 4 kids decided to holiday in France this year as flying somewhere works out so expensive, so we decided to give France a chance. We had a long drive from Calais, but stayed over in la souterraine on the way which is around 6 hours from Calais and then a further 4 hours from azzilanet. The directions given by Suzanne were spot on and we found it with no problems at all. The villa was exactly as described. Azzilanet is a very quiet sleepy village, where not much happens, so if your looking for nightlife and busy bars, then this isnt the place for you. The pool was great with a shallow and deep end, the only disappointment was that you lose the sun around 6pm because of the trees overlooking the property. There are lots of flies, wasps and mosquitos when we were there, which was very annoying and stopped us sitting outside in the evening time. The villa itself is very hot with no air con, which was very uncomfortable in the evening and night times. There were fans in the villa that helped cool you down, but it was still unbearable at times with temp at night around the mid to late 20s. The villa has everything you need for it to be a home from home, the communication from Suzanne was excellent and she always answered promptly and nothing was ever a problem. The villa on the surface was clean, however there were quiet a few cobwebs in the living areas and hallways, which hadn't just occurred. The light in the downstairs hallway had a bulb missing, but wasnt that inconvenient as we left the light on in the downstairs bathroom. Oliver who cleans the pool was great and was on hand to help and assist with any issues with the pool. This is a semi detached property, but we hardly saw the neighbours in the 2 weeks we were there. The sun beds need to be upgraded and they are broken and tired looking. There is lots to do around the area, I would recommend... Minerve, olnazac market. Have a bite to eat in the evening beside the canal in trebes. Carcasomme castle is a reasonable priced day out as well as walking around the city. Australian park is a great day out for the kids. Narbonne plage is a great beach and a more tourist area. Narbonne city is also good to walk around with plenty of shops. We found France very expensive for food shopping and to eat out if you have a family of kids. The villa is a great base and a peaceful environment and we really enjoyed our stay in France and will defo be coming back.

This is a lovely house and pool in a gorgeous part of France.
This is a pleasant house with pool to cool off when the weather is hot. If you want a quiet rural french experience with good wine to buy, places of interest and coast nearby, then you should definitely consider staying here. The owner Suzanne was always quick to respond to questions and recommended places to visit.

Relaxing holiday
Stayed for 2 weeks at the end of July, family of four. Can only reiterate previous reviews, fabulous house and swimming pool, set in a lovely quiet village. The house was very well equipped and very well situated for visiting further afield. Would recommend Carcassonne, Narbonne, the beaches at La Franqui and Leucate, and Olonzac market was fab. The village of Olargues and Minerve were beautiful. We also hired bikes from Melo Velos in Paraza. It was always great to return to the house to cool off in the pool, have a barbecue and enjoy a glass or two of rose, under the shade of the lovely old fig tree. We had a very relaxing holiday and all communication with Suzanne was informative, prompt and extremely helpful.

Fabulous home-from-home
What a super place! Lying under the fig tree in the sun, it couldn’t be more idyllic. A great house, lovely pool, all comfortably furnished with everything you need, and a great location in a sleepy village (with fantastic restaurant just a few minutes walk) yet on the doorstep of Carcassonne and lots of places to explore. We loved it!

Lovely property in a peaceful location
Stayed for 7 nights in June. The traditional stone house was nice & cool in the hot weather. Property is well equiped with modern interior. Azillanet is a beautiful village with amenities including 2 restaurants. Peaceful, quiet environment which made for a restful holiday. We all enjoyed the pool & lovely garden. Larger village of Olonzav is nearby. This has a supermarket, boulangaries & a number of restaurants. There is a fantastic market on Tuesdays. The historic, beautiful village of Minerve is also only 10 mins drive.

A beautiful character home in peaceful rural countryside with the luxury of your own pool
What a find this place was. It looked lovely in the pictures and so it was but it’s not until you get there that you feel the peace and tranquility this wonderful house has to offer. Set in lovely countryside there is simply no noise other than the birds singing and the church bells with an occasional tractor going past. Even after a 3am start to get there and a sat nav that took us up one way streets and via the centre of Béziers on market day, we felt relaxed the minute we arrived. Outdoor the salt water pool is stunning with lovely countryside views and al fresco dining in the pretty garden was a delight. It seems odd to mention a fig tree with a swing in a review but it was a simply beautiful ancient twisted tree and we took some lovely pics of the birthday girls sitting on the swing. Inside was equally good - full of french character and it feels old but with a modern kitchen and bathrooms. With comfy beds and pillows, a very well stocked kitchen with a dishwasher, a character fireplace and powerful showers it ticked all our boxes! Suzanne has been brilliant throughout, quick to respond and giving us lots of info.. we had to plan for a birthday the day after we arrived and Suzanne gave us recommendations, tips and help with a taxi and told us about a new restaurant in the village before we arrived so making eating out on our first night and sorting the birthday with no stress. We would recommend the new restaurant in the village and the restaurant in Aigne was excellent and reliably open which wasn’t always the case, the restaurant in Beaufort was good and all had excellent set menus and we paid between 20 and 26 Euro’s for 3 courses - such good value. We liked the local organic vineyard Peche d Andre and had an interesting talk by the son in law about their move to more natural wines and if you can drag yourself away from the pool and garden cycle hire and riding through vineyards and along the canal was fun. I highly recommend this as a great holiday and fabulous place to stay. It feels like a home and not a holiday let.

Merci, Suzanne.

Beautifully renovated townhouse in quiet village, located in the heart of wine growing countryside
Stayed in late October so pool had been closed down for winter. The house had a really nice French feel to it but had been very well renovated. Located on the edge of a small, quiet village with very limited facilities. The nearest small town for basic provisions was around a 10 minute drive away. Ideal if you want somewhere restful. We would love to return again but would aim to be there when the pool is functioning and to be able to enjoy the small but pretty garden.

Idyllic rural retreat
We adored this wonderful old house in Azillanet. Despite the heat, the house remained cool, the beds were super-comfy and we slept blissfully. We spent our days reading under the plentiful shade of the fig tree, occasionally taking a dip in the pool and watching life unfold in the adjacent allotments. Day trips to the market at Olonzac and the pretty town of Minerve were fun but the house always drew us back. The local auberge does a very good, simple evening menu but is popular so it's best to book. We would thoroughly recommend this property and Suzanne was an extremely helpful host.

Wonderful family holiday in Azillanet
Everything was perfect: The house, the village, the region, the pool. We were an extended family group of 7 (including 3 children). The property and facilities were precisely as described, and matched our needs exactly throughout the 10 days that we were there. Suzanne was a generous host and kept us well informed in the lead up to the visit. We were very sorry to leave and would love to come again!
