Paradise! Share our private peninsula & beach, vacation or year-round

Welcome! December Holidays update 2024:
It's been a busy year here! And now we're looking forward to our guests who'll be coming through the December holiday period and throughout 2025--on vacation, or for work, relocation or education.

GENERAL NOTE: We now give priority to longer-term visitors. But always ask about dates you may be interested in, including for a minimum stay of a week or two, in case there are quick changes in the schedule. We'll accommodate you if we can.

*** IMPORTANT ABOUT RATES: it's not possible to set up an accurate one-size-fits-all cost calculation for longer stays through the platform's standardized system--we've tried--so please ASK for details before you request a booking, and we'll be happy to give you a customized quote based on your dates! :)

SEND US INQUIRIES any time. Just please don't formally request dates till you've asked about availability and the actual cost for you. It hurts our standing in the rental platform if we decline booking requests.

REVIEWS: Since March 2020, we've mostly had long-term, private-booking renters, hence the slight age of most reviews here.

Now about that DESCRIPTION...

===============
Hello! Here at Fish Point we’re unique in welcoming not only summer and fall vacationers, but also year-round, for business travelers or medical personnel needing a longer stay, and people desiring artist-retreat rentals: writers, visual artists, and composers/songwriters. *

While we know some travelers look for a stand-alone house, this is not "just an apartment." As one happy guest remarked when he first walked in: "You have a palazzo [a palace] here!" We're highly respectful of our guests' needs for peace and privacy. Meanwhile, we're available for special needs, help in emergencies, the latest tips and advice about the area.

We call our rental business "THE 'GUST' HOUSE" for the sea winds that make things exciting!

Our home was built in 2002, on a 3-1/2 acre property with a fascinating early American naval-defense history. The house is right along quiet Fickett's Point Road, on the back side of Narraguagus Bay just minutes from Milbridge's center. It's a great road for scenic walks & biking. Cross the broad field behind our house, and you come first to a beautiful gazebo facing the bay (new in 2020), then to a footbridge leading to our own wooded peninsula, used only by our family and guests, which gives you 270-degree views of the ocean, bay, town, and spectacular sunsets across the water. Enjoy the sights from the gazebo, the trail, the benches, or take a meal out to the picnic table at the end of the Point! Sunsets are spectacular out there.

A set of stairs leads you down to the beach, one of the rare sand beaches on the Maine coast--along with the large boulders characteristic of the area. We're near the town marina, and kayak rentals are nearby.

We live in the adjoining house, which we've made sonically and visually private from the 1300 SF apartment. The rental apartment is all on the ground floor, with its own private entrances, garden, and a patio/terrace facing the water. The facility is handicap-accessible, with wide doorways and hall, and flooring of tile, wood and low-nap carpeting--smooth surfaces for walkers or wheelchairs.

Bedrooms are large for this part of Maine. One has a king bed and the other 2 have queen beds. The king BR has its own private ensuite bathroom with shower. The other two BR's share a bathroom with a large tiled shower. The fully appointed kitchen has excellent appliances, including dishwasher and high quality LP gas range/oven. And of course a lobster pot! The dining area adjoins the large living room, and the apartment has its own washer & dryer. Decor and furnishings are charming, restful--and unique, not off-the-rack.

Other amenities: Up-to-date flat-screen television with Direct TV, Roku with Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc., plus internet music programs and other bundled services. Starlink internet, blazing fast. Cell services work fine in our location. Small library, games for rainy days, etc.

Since acquiring this home in April 2014, we've been gradually restoring the lovely garden beds that surround the entire house. They combine native and wild plants with more formal plantings. The apartment has its own "secret garden" area, and private patio with a view across the fields and bay., and its own BBQ grill.

Though 2014 was our first year at Fish Point, we owned a vacation cottage in Milbridge from 2008-22, and have rented to travelers since 2009. We've gotten raves from our renters at both properties!

LOCATION, LOCATION: Guests often tell us how happy they are about our geographic location, too, since we're about equidistant from Mt. Desert Island (Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor) and the farthest-east coastal towns like Lubec and Eastport -- and Campobello Island! Do bring passports if you plan to visit Campobello, since it's Canadian. It's easy to make a day or half-day trip to these famous, fascinating vacation spots from our place.

We're just about an hour's drive from ACADIA NATIONAL PARK. The main part of the Park is on Mount Desert Island, about 50 minutes from us. But a less-known section, Schoodic Point, is just about 20 minutes away, and is quieter, fewer crowds, same breath-taking views. Schoodic Point, this part of Acadia that Mainers tend to frequent, also has a fine information and conference center and campground, and is near many art and craft studios.

* Our guests' vacation and retreat rental fees help to support the work of Sunrise County Arts Institute, the small Maine non-profit we founded in 2014 as a resource for quality music, theater, writing and visual arts activities in Milbridge and the DownEast/Acadia area.

Beautiful property

This property was beautiful and peaceful. The point is perfect for watching a sunset or reading in a hammock. Danielle and Claude were very kind and helpful. It was hot while we were there, but the breeze on the point was all we needed to be comfortable.

Very Nice Stay In Milbridge

The house was immaculately clean. Danielle and Claude were very gracious hosts. The views were beautiful, and this was a very enjoyable place to stay. Close to the Schoodic Peninsula, and not too far from Machias and Campobello for folks who would like to visit the FDR compound there. I would heartily recommend that you stay here!

A great apartment to rent.

Fish Point apartment is clean, spacious and A/C is not needed. Just open the windows and feel the cool breeze and smell the salty air from the bay. The point is a nice place to meditate and just appreciate the beautiful scenery. Danielle and Claude are great hosts...very nice couple and they are there if you need anything. Their puppy named Pongo is just adorable. Our first family vacation in Maine was memorable and highly recommend the apartment. Bravos from NJ

Wonderful rental, warm and thoughtful hosts

My husband and I were seeking a relaxing mini-vacation somewhere near the ocean. Danielle and Claude's pristine, spacious, well-appointed rental was just the ticket! We couldn't believe how roomy and beautiful the apartment was--- really more like a whole house to itself, yet so reasonably priced. Off the beaten track, quiet location near the water, with a springtime chorus of wood frogs serenading us at night, but only minutes from town for groceries and restaurants. Excellent base location for Acadia (especially Schoodic) and other downeast attractions all the way up to Canada and Campobello Island. Danielle and Claude were so thoughtful and hospitable, and gave excellent recommendations for local points of interest. Thank you for a wonderful long weekend---we'll be back!

Brithday celebration

My Cousin, her Mom and I were looking for an accessible house to celebrate her 79 birthday. We were so glad we found the Fish Point house owned by Danielle & Claude. The beautiful private cove accessed via a walk through the birch trees was great. We wanted something in between New Brunswick Canada & Bar Harbor and the house was perfect for our trip being about an hours drive to both. The restaurant recommendations by Danielle & Claude were great local places for Seafood, if you go to Pickled Wrinkle have the fish chowder, and you can get a small seafood dinner at Uncle Skinny's that is enough food for 2 had the best fried oysters I've ever had. We slept very well in the comfy beds and the one that raised was perfect for my Aunt! The towels were the big fluffy ones, not what you usually find in a rental. Danielle & Claude was so sweet to us and treated us like family ensuring we all had everything we needed during our stay. If I were looking for a place in Maine that would soothe my soul this house would be it!! Thank you so much Danielle & Claude for all the kindness you showed to us during our stay & sharing Pongo! You will not be forgotten!

Sabrina M., Where do you live?

Wonderful anniversary trip!

Heartfelt thanks to Danielle and Claude for their hospitality! We had a wonderful stay at Fish Point and if I lived there, I'd spend nearly all my time down at the point -- absolutely gorgeous!!! Even though the water was frigid, off came my tennis shoes so I could put my feet into the water down on the beautiful little beach. Be sure to try to catch a glimpse of the little "church" with the stained glass window hidden in the woods down at the point. During our visit, we were blessed to be invited to attend a concert performed by Danielle and had a lovely song dedicated for our anniversary stay -- priceless. The list of have-to-see points of interest and restaurants provided by Danielle were invaluable -- we visited The Wrinkled Pickle twice. Her communication before and during our stay was great -- I felt like we were friends even before we met in person. Schoodic Point in Acadia (the locals' choice for visiting the park) will go down in history as one of my most favorite places to visit. I got so close down on the rocks that the water hit me from my feet to my knees!!! If you visit, you'll understand how awesome that is! :) And the stars up in the sky -- amazing. How many times I wish I could have captured that beauty with my camera. Such a wonderful stay. My husband and I have already talked about hoping to visit again some day and treat our kids to the hospitality and beauty found at Fish Point. Thanks again, Danielle and Claude, for the sweet gift of the wine upon our arrival and for sharing your home with us for one of our best anniversary trips yet.

Quiet Oasis

This beautifully maintained attached apartment rental was ideal for our first VRBO experience. I fear they may have set the bar too high for future vacations! Situated on a very peaceful, quiet point, it was the perfect get-away for 3 busy professionals. It can be hard to unplug when you have a demanding career, but this location made it easier because of the wonderful amenities, which included excellent WiFi connectivity. We didn’t have to worry about how the office would reach us in the case of an emergency. It was an easy drive to MDI (Mount Desert Island-home of Bar Harbor Village and Acadia National Park) and the beautiful rugged coast of Downeast Maine! We had many lovely drives through the picturesque landscape and have some wonderful pictures to remember our stay for years to come. It was also quite easy to get to Lubec, Maine and the beautiful lighthouse at West Quoddy Head (the easternmost point in the USA), and the entry point for Campobello Island, NB Canada. Claude, Danielle (and Pongo, too!) made us feel at home immediately. Generous information was provided about the many attractions in the area, both very near and a short distance by car. Sunset on the point is beautiful, and should not be missed! The local grocery store is quite close and extremely well stocked for such a small town. We were able to find everything we wanted to keep costs down by cooking in the apartment most mornings and a few evenings. The kitchen in the apartment is well stocked, and we never had to “make do”, since everything we needed (in the way of utensils, dishware, pots/pans, etc.) was provided. We chose the perfect week to see the gorgeous fall colors of Maine, and are so appreciative of the kindness of our hosts. Thank you for allowing us to rent your fabulous apartment. We truly had a memorable stay!

A great stay in Milbridge

We had a great stay in Milbridge. The property was well furnished, very comfortable, private and quiet. We felt like we came home each evening to our little retreat. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were well appointed, and the kitchen (plus the outdoor gas grill) had everything you would need to prepare meals. The living room was a comfortable place to hang out. Thanks Danielle and Claude for a great stay.

Beautiful and relaxing beach

My family and I agree with the other 5 star reviewers. Outdoors: The peninsula is very long and private. It's a great place for sitting and relaxing. The beach is large enough to play paddle ball, and fun to explore. There are two decent sized fields my 9 year old son enjoyed playing in. There was a fire pit on the patio to roast s'mores. Inside: It's clean and stocked with everything we could need. The area: It's worth the drive. We've rented places on Mount Desert Island before and have to say I much prefer this area of the coast. It's beautiful and but doesn't have crowds, and the locals are friendly. We really enjoyed our vacation!

A serene paradise!

What an amazing little piece of heaven! This is the perfect pace if you are looking for a nice quiet spot away from the crowds to unwind at the end of the day in this gorgeous part of Maine. The "apartment", which is a lovely 3 bedroom home attached to the owners house, is ideal for those who like to eat a few meals in and few out. They have all the kitchen essentials...and then some, like spices and olive oil and tin foil...and little things that you need to cook a meal, but may have forgotten. Their welcome book is a treasure trove of information about the area that is so useful when you set out to explore. And then words can't describe how lovely and calming Fish Point is. We walked down every morning with our coffee to enjoy the quiet and watch the tide come in. We even saw a seal on our first day! Danielle and Claude have a very special place and they go out of their way to make sure your trip is special too. When I made our reservation, I had mentioned that my husband and I were coming to Maine to celebrate our birthdays...and then our first evening, we were greeted with wine and a birthday cake to celebrate! How amazing is that!! I can not say enough about this wonderful place and the wonderful hosts. You will be hard pressed to find better! Although it was nice to come home to our kiddos...I can not wait to go back again hopefully next year!!

Peaceful and homey

Danielle helped us find excellent activities and restaurants. She is right that the Schoodic side of Arcadia National Park is even more beautiful than the Mt Desert Island side. We had a very full week and was nice to come back to Fish Point each evening where we had everything we could have needed. Thank you for good conversations and a wonderful place to stay, Danielle and Claude!

Beautiful location, lovely residence, and great owners/property managers

This was a lovely spot for a vacation. The space was ideal for a group of four (or five). The rooms were very well appointed, well maintained and spotless. There was plenty of space for everyone and enough to give individuals some privacy when needed. The grounds were gorgeous and provided a sense of privacy and seclusion. It was a short walk to beautiful views of the inlet. The town of Milbridge, which was a very short drive or a very "do-able" walk from the rental property, is quaint and pretty and offers the opportunity to interact with "quintessential downeasters"; plain spoken folks who share their unvarnished views in the vernacular of rural Maine. It is a delight. For anyone thinking of getting away to a beautiful setting in a quaint community, I say, "This is the place to go." Danielle and Claude are warm and gracious hosts who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Their recommendations for meals and entertainment will lead you to little gems in the area. They will "bend over backward" to make sure that you enjoy your stay. Wonderful setting, great price, first-rate hosts, and a community that provides a little slice of nostalgia for simpler times. Wonderful Stay

This house is truly charming between the incredible view and the cozy yet spacious feel. The house was even more beautiful than the pictures and absolutely spotless. It was well stocked with all the amenities, internet, television, and a priceless view. We especially enjoyed our stay because of our wonderful hosts, and owners of the property, Claude and Danielle. They helped us find attractions and also provided detailed maps, things to do, and guides. They were very nice and genuine people who ensured our trip was very relaxing. Although they lived in the adjacent house they provided us with privacy and our own space. We would definitely recommend it and hope to come back again and again. - The Aladdin's, NJ

Host profile image
You're right--we're not red squirrels. This fellow was caught on camera by one of our 2018 vacation guests who kindly shared some of his photos with us. (If you recall Rocky and Bullwinkle: yes, there are moose nearby too, though not right on our land.)

We're a husband and wife, seasoned vacation rental owner-operators, who have provided accommodations at our charming cape house across the bay to satisfied vacationers since 2009*, and at this property beginning in 2014. Now we live in this beautiful area full-time.

We began camping in Maine 20 years ago, working our way up the coast from York and Booth Bay till we discovered Acadia. In 2008, we bought a 3BR cape in Milbridge as a vacation home; renovated it; and fell in love with the beauty of the area, the community, and the neighborliness of DownEasters. (That property, VRBO 341321 -- titled All-Season Wonderland: Oceanfront Cape with spectacular views! -- is going on the market in 2021.)

In 2014, when we acquired Fish Point, we moved from NY's mid-Hudson Valley to live here full-time, and to open a small music & arts center for the area. We're a musician (singer, voice teacher, with a Bard B.A. and a Songwriting Master's from Berklee), and a retired IBM IT professional. We have over 20 years of DIY home renovation under our belts, too.

Why they chose this property

We knew this home for over a decade before it became ours; it was built by a good friend in the area.

This is an absolutely unique property, located so close to town, yet on a peaceful bayside road; 3.5 acres with its own oceanside nature preserve and a sand beach, so rare in Maine. In 2020 we built a gazebo, which we also share with guests! It truly is a paradise.

One feels in touch with the infinite here, in the most intimate way. Sunrises, dramatic cloud patterns and sunsets spread across the horizon. During the day, the water views go all the way out to sea; and there is the wooded Point, and sand beach, right here on the property. Eagles, hawks and ospreys circle high above, gulls soar, songbirds chatter in the trees closer by. Wildlife includes foxes and bobcats as well as more familiar animals. To go outdoors on a clear night is to be surrounded by a bowl of stars, that become brighter and more numerous the longer you look.

The 5,500 SF Cape Cod style house was built in 2002 as a dual-use facility: a private home, plus an attached, flexible, handicap-accessible apartment that's a completely independent living/rental unit. The house is conveniently close to the road for walking, biking, and winter access; while the broad field behind it has water views and the gazebo, and provides a scenic entry to the footbridge that leads to the serenity of the Point.

We run a small local arts institute, and are especially happy to welcome artists of all stripes who want to get away for Creativity Retreats.

What makes this property unique

For vacationers, businesspeople and traveling medical personnel, this is a special opportunity. Also, for stays of 28+ nights, if connected to your job, education or relocation to the area, you can be exempted from State sales tax. Ask us about this first!
- We welcome travel nurses and other essential medical personnel for their standard 13-week contract stays.
- Traveling business professionals also enjoy our facility.
- Artists and other creatives who want to get away for some real productivity are welcomed for Creativity Retreats of varying lengths.

One special writers' retreat period is the whole month of November each year, when we offer special National Novel Writers' Month (NaNoWriMo) arrangements for participating writers, including optional support events.

When we bought this property and were renovating the building, we installed sound barriers between our living/studio spaces and the apartment, to keep that unit a quiet space for guests. We're considerate about the scheduling of sound-producing activities.

We provide all guests with a several-page list of our own favorite attractions, eateries, shops, etc., in advance. Their opening times, services, etc., are more variable than may be listed, due to the coronavirus, so always check with the establishment.
