Christmas Vacation

The Dome house was so welcoming for our holiday away, even had a decorated Christmas tree! We did a lot of cooking and the kitchen had everything we needed and was perfect for many cooks in the kitchen together. It was a short walk to the town which is a wonderful, interesting, friendly mountain town. There were 5 of us and we had plenty of room to relax and have quiet time. When the sun was shining on the porch we were even able to have Christmas lunch there. Being a Dome house voices carry but Ida, the host, thought of everything and had earplugs available for anyone who needed them. We had a wonderful time and look forward to visiting again. Thanks Ida for your hospitality!

The Dome for the WIN

This stay was truly incredible. Ida was extremely communicative, thorough, and accommodating. The personal touches were so thoughtful-- she left a bottle of wine and a card for each child who was supposed to stay (sadly the other family couldn't make it due to illness). You can tell she takes great pride in the Dome. It was in impeccable shape. The acoustics were incredible! And the place had so many games, toys, books, and information about the area. The fireplace was cozy as were the beds, couches, and seats. My 14 month old and 3.5 year old had a BLAST. And it was so close to town. The kitchen was also very well equipped- and spacious! The Dome truly was the perfect stay! One recommendation for those with small kids- if you want to walk to town, I would note that there are no sidewalks so probably best to do it in daylight (we sadly tried in the dark, which was unwise). We would absolutely stay here again. We loved this home. You must stay-- you will not regret it.

it was great

The house is unique and memorable. Great views. Ida was excellent. One thing to keep in mind, it had no air condition, but the fans and opening Windows made it fine.

A beautiful stay in a beautiful home.

First, Ida was amazing. Great about communicating, super helpful with suggestions and needs. She was always kind during correspondence and never made me feel like I was asking too many questions. The house had everything you could need for cooking, which was a lovely surprise. As someone who rents a lot, and for over twenty years, this was the best experience in Idyllwild I’ve ever had.

Excellent Getaway

The Dome was very impressive. Besides being clean, Ida had setup some treats for the family. The mauve colored carpet was unique, however, it was the acoustics of the dome that were really cool. We really liked all the details of the interior design, from the vintage sideboards to the 3D picture frame. It is close to the town center, about a 12 min walk. Overall, it was a much needed getaway. Highly recommend.

Relaxing get-away

This is a great property for family, friends, or a solo retreat. Very clean, spacious, nice touches, and has everything you need. Loved the loft and reading nook. Loved the big screen TV. Loved the soaking tub and rainfall shower. I had a great stay, very relaxing, comfortable, and didn't want to leave. I will definitely be back. Ida is a great host, very thoughtful and attentive, and helpful.

This place is amazing! Besides the unique architecture, it is close to town and you can walk everywhere. Ida is incredible and really makes you feel welcome- especially the best banana bread in the world! Great birthday celebration and we will be back!

Dome Visit November 2020

My family (2 adults, 3 teens) had a pleasant stay at the Dome. We enjoyed the sunsets and the pleasant town of Idyllwild. The town was mostly open for outdoor dining and most people were wearing masks when out and about. The Dome House was nicely appointed for our family. We enjoyed the funky blend of old and new furnishings. Everything we needed for cooking etc. was provided and then some. The downstairs master bedroom was fantastic for my husband and I while the 3 kids really enjoyed having the upstairs bedrooms and the loft area to write and do school work. The host Ida, was so helpful and responsive. She welcomed us generously and made us feel very comfortable.

Unforgettable Mountain retreat - perfect for all ages

We spend a short 2 nights (our only mistake was not booking for longer) at Ida's lovely mountain retreat. I was traveling with my three young children, husband and 80 year old father. Everyone in our family was so entertained, comfortable and happy in the dome. The kids LOVED the foosbal table and games, my dad loved all the books, we had so much room to spread out and be comfortable. It was a rather hot two days so we really enjoyed all the time we spent retreating in the dome. The kitchen is SO well equipped I was able to comfortably cook all our meals since eating out these days is not so appealing... Ida was only a text away for any questions that we had and she even left a few amenities for us that were so special (banana bread :-)! We hope to return. Thank you for an unfortugetable short but sweet stay.

Unique, comfortable, well-equipped

The Dome is just as beautiful and unique as it looks in the photos. Ida was very kind and communicative. The Dome had many extras we weren't expecting like hotel robes, a fully stocked kitchen and lots of little touches. We thought it was a perfect location in Idyllwild, near to town and trails. We noticed parts of town near Strawberry Creek had lots of mosquitoes and flies, but this property did not. We did see many birds and small wildlife from the windows and decks. As far as bedroom layout, I always look at reviews to get a sense for our group. The downstairs master suite was large, you could even have small children stay with you. It is able to be dark and very quiet. The two upstairs bedrooms are super fun with their unusual shape and one of a kind acoustics. If you are very light or sound sensitive, you might prefer the master downstairs, as there aren't individual ceilings to each room, but my kids loved the way the acoustics made hide and seek extra interesting.

Magical Getaway

We had a lovely time in the Dome! The small touches from Ida (flowers, oranges, banana bread) made us feel like we were at home. The Dome is spacious and has great acoustics for music and movie lovers. The kitchen was fully stocked for cooking, the beds were comfortable, and the house was immaculate. We couldn’t ask for a nicer host- Ida was responsive to all of our questions. Overall, we would highly recommend the Dome and we will definitely be back!

Thoughtfully appointed and charming

We had a nice couple of days enjoying such a unique home, so thoughtfully outfitted for its guests. One note though if you’re eager to try out the piano and the unique acoustics- The piano was unplayable ( beyond out of tune) sadly as we were anxious to try it out with the super fun acoustics. Hopefully they’ll get it tuned. Or give a free stay to someone willing to tune it. Then I would go back!

What a gem!

We absolutely loved our stay and plan to come back for more! The house has an old school yet modern feel to it, which is quite refreshing in the mountain cabin world. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were updated and clean. Ida was wonderful to work with. She even helped me surprise my boyfriend with a local bakers birthday cake. It was perfect! So good and was adorable. Thank you!

Amazing property!

Have stayed in many VRBO properties for past 25 years and this was definitely one of the nicest ones yet. Ida was amazing to work with, always being available to answer any questions we had prior to booking the property and during our entire stay. She went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. In addition, Ida provided very thoughtful personal touches including: delicious banana bread, coffee beans, bottle of wine and a pantry stocked with many spices for any type of cooking. The location was ideal, being close to the quaint town of Idyllwild and many hiking trails. Would definitely stay again.

Relaxing trip with friends

Ida's dome was the perfect location for my trip to Idyllwild with two friends. I visit the hill regularly and wanted to introduce them to the hiking and the town. The dome had plenty of room for us to spread out, including a massive and private master bedroom. The upstairs bedrooms are loud if everyone isn't going to bed at the same time, but Ida is clear about that and provides earplugs for guests. The kitchen was big, convenient, and well stocked. We cooked a meal and made drinks. Ida provided fresh fruit and banana bread to get us started on our vaca. The dome itself is in great condition and is a unique place to hang out and enjoy. We made a roaring fire and had fun exploring the strange acoustics that allow you to talk (or play music) in one room and hear it crystal-clear in another. The dome was also a quick drive (and a 10-15 minute walk) to town. I can't wait to find time to come back and visit the dome!

Beautiful, welcoming, felt like home. Definitely going again!

My husband and I, along with our 2 adult children and 2 friends stayed at The Dome January 2-4. We arrived to the homeowner bringing us fresh flowers and freshly baked banana bread (that was sooo good!).The architecture of the Dome is unique, and we loved the open floor plan. We knew that the acoustics were such that if you were downstairs sitting on the couch you could hear everything, even whispers, from the upstairs bedrooms. But we were prepared for that and it actually was a funny aspect of the stay as we used it to play tricks on each other! The homeowner provided ear plugs in case we needed a bit more quiet. The location of the Dome was perfect: close to town yet secluded enough that we felt like we were out in the woods alone. Parking was easy with plenty of space. Beds were comfortable and cozy with lots of blankets. Bathrooms were well stocked with modern amenities. Kitchen was fully stocked with every plate/bowl/cookie sheet/ pot/pan/ etc. etc. that we needed. Nice new oven and range that worked very well. Nice dining area to seat us all. Living room had plenty of seating and a nice large TV. There were a ton of games and books in the amazing loft. We stayed 2 nights but wished we had more time. We hiked, explored the town, and relaxed in the house. It's a truly magical place with the most warm and welcoming host!

Beautiful cabin with everything you need .

We stayed here over New Years and I would definetly recommend this place to all my friends . It’s close to the town but tucked away so you still feel like your in the woods. This cabin is not only cool it is very comfy . We were shocked at how stocked the cabin was with everything you can think of . The combination between the mid century feel and classic antiques makes you feel like your in some kind of Hollywood get away . I am a bit of a sticker when it comes to cleanliness, especially in a rental, and I have to say the Dome is spotless and very well kept . Ida was quick to respond and answered all of my question from the first initial email . She even brought us party bobbers and hats to bring in the new year right . The first morning we had freshly squeezed orange juice and homemade banana bread that Ida left for us as a treat . The best part of the whole trip was we got some snow and that made the experience that much better . We are hoping to go back next year . If you are looking a cabin with a great layout, cozy and comfy, with everything you need this is the place . ❤️

Best stocked kitchen.

A geodesic dome is a very interesting house. We found any sound from one level to the other travelled clearly. A street is nearby so on the deck there is traffic noise. Otherwise we loved it. We could easily walk to town. Ida is not intrusive but available when needed. Thanks, Ida for the wine and delicious banana bread.

Terrific!

Had a wonderful time at this place, Ida was a great host and made sure everything was taken care of for us upon arrival, with greetings and treats as others have specified. Had some great hiking in the area and general repose from urban life, and thoroughly enjoyed the house which was very quiet, comfortable, and included everything that we needed. Nice views and easy to get to town as well.

I was lucky enough to grow up in Idyllwild in the house next door to this one! After visiting Idyllwild for several years we moved up the mountain in 1969. A severe snow storm scared my parents away, but not for long! We moved back to Idyllwild in 1976 have called it home ever since.

Why they chose this property

A wonderful couple bought the lot next to my childhood home and Ray built his dream... A Geodesic dome! Ray and Marge were the best neighbors anyone could ever have. Ray had a dream of building a Geodesic dome home and this it! It is my pleasure to be able to share Ray's dream with you!

What makes this property unique

This R. Bunkminster Fuller inspired, Mid-Century Modern Geodesic Dome Cabin is unique. From the eclectic furnishings, to the pink carpet Marge loved, and the acoustics, this is a one of kind experience. The deck had amazing sunset views and wildlife can often be seen using the game trail behind the house.
