About this property

Peaceful Cottage On Milakokia Lake with Saturday Check in to Saturday Check out

*PLEASE NOTE: The DNR will be closing the only boat ramp September 3, 2024 (the day after Labor Day) for the season.

Pike Lodge is a two queen size bedroom lodge located on 650 feet of sandy Milakokia Lake frontage, great for swimming. It is a quiet, serene setting surrounded by mature pines & hardwoods. It is about an hour west of St. Ignace off US 2 and has a living/dining room, kitchen, and in-door plumbing facilities (there is also an outhouse for the rustic feel, if you prefer!). There are two, queen size fold out couches in the living room and a rollout bed stored in enclosed breezeway along with the gas & charcoal BBQ grills and the outdoor furniture. There is an electric stove with oven, refrigerator, “Mr. Coffee” coffee maker, toaster, microwave oven, blender, pots, pans, plates, bowls, glasses, silverware, and cooking utensils. So all you need is your linens & groceries. There is a 14-foot aluminum rowboat with two adult & two children’s life jackets, oars and an anchor.

Things you need to bring:
- Sheets (2 queen size beds, 2 queen size sleeper sofas & 1 twin rollout), pillowcases, sleeping bags, some blankets. There are pillows & a few blankets there.
- Towels, personal & dish.
- Soap, personal & dish.
- Insect repellent.
- Paper products. (Paper plates, paper towels, paper cups, toilet paper, napkins)
- Garbage bags.

Optional:
- Folding chairs.
- Fishing gear – for Northern Pike, Walleye, Perch, Small Mouth Bass and other pan fish.
- Outboard motor (and accessories) up to 15 horse. Motors can be rented in Curtis.
- Extra life jackets. Two adult & two children jackets are available.
- BBQ coals & lighter fluid. A grill is there. There is also a propane grill with gas included.
- There is some firewood available as dead fall in the woods for the beach fire pit or fireplace. Please do not burn pine logs in the fireplace, as the pitch can cause a chimney fire. If you plan to have a lot of fires you might want to buy firewood. Please DO NOT cut any of the trees.
- Drinking water. There is a deep well that was installed in 1998 and a Brita water filter pitcher is also available.

Shopping: Newberry: Two supermarkets, Mac’s at the top of the hill on M123, and Rahilly’s IGA downtown near the RR crossing. Manistique: Jack’s Super Value on US 2 just west of the Ford dealership. Local convenience items: Bob’s Stop & Shop at US 2 and H33 (road to Curtis); BP gas Station, US 2 and M 77, six miles west of E. Milakokia Lk Road.

Misc.:
- Please do not bring any ORV’s as this is a quiet lake & we don’t want to disturb the neighbors.

- Pets need to be cleaned up after, all waste from animals cleaned up from yard - PLEASE BE VERY DILIGENT IN THIS. Please do not allow them to dig and THEY NEED TO BE KEPT OFF THE FURNITURE, in consideration of other guests with allergies.

When you leave, please clean the floors, kitchen (including stove & microwave oven) & bath for the next group, this allows us to keep the rent low by not having to hire someone to clean. Please make sure the yard is clean and you haven’t forgotten any items you brought with you.

Please make absolutely sure you clean out the refrigerator. This includes all condiments and leftovers, the next group may not appreciate that you left something for them. There is no trash pick-up so you will need to take it all with you. For a fee, the Sunoco gas station in Engadine (M117, one mile north of US 2) will let you use their dumpster. Please be sure that all lights and fans are off, lock all exterior doors, hang the key on the deer thermostat’s antlers, and DO NOT lock the dead bolt. Thank you.

Nice quiet place, in need of more checks to make sure it is clean after guests leave and some small maintenance issues. That being said, communication with the owners was amazing and prompt. Any issues that did arise were immediately fixed. Overall, excellent hosts.

Great location and great hosts

This was our second stay at the property. My wife and dogs loved the first one so much, we made sure to come back. The cabin is located on a very private lot surrounded by trees with no neighbors. The cabin is also very cozy will all amenities you may need. We had an issue with the fridge when it stopped working on the second day of our trip. I reached out to the hosts and they were quick to respond. Their father lived nearby and he kept us stocked with ice for our cooler for the remainder of our trip (thank you John!) We also got to meet the host and they were very kind and went out of their way to make the trouble up to us, and they were already on top of fixing the fridge. Looking forward to coming back next year!

Peaceful and beautiful!

We had a truly relaxing week on Lake Milakokia. The property is very private with dense forest on the sides but also has a nice lawn which rolls right into a soft, sandy beach. We walked a lot, took out the row boat, fished, kayaked (we brought our own), and the dogs frolicked in the lake. We brought out the chairs provided by the owners and read while enjoying the breeze off the water and later sat there enjoying the most stunning sunsets over the lake. We also left to explore The Big Spring, Curtis and the Manistique Lakes, Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks, Whitefish Point and lots of spots along the way. We highly recommend the cottage and the Upper Peninsula itself!

Secluded UP cabin getaway, great for dogs

This cabin was very nice to stay in and was exactly what my wife and I were looking for when we were trying to find somewhere we could bring our dogs with us! The cabin itself was a nicer version of a typical UP cabin, with every amenity you might need. It was also very clean, even without a regular cleaning crew coming through. The property is quite secluded from neighboring cabins with trees surrounding the property and hundreds of feet of beach to the next nearest dock. Our dogs loved it! My wife and I relaxed on the beach nearly every day while our dogs played and roamed the property and beach. It was a great getaway for vacation and exactly what we needed. We look forward to staying here again, hopefully closer to the peak of summer where we can have more sunny days!

A great find

We really enjoyed our stay here. The chairs and beds sagged a bit, but overall the house was clean, cozy, and comfortable and had everything we needed. We felt at home right away. The setting was very peaceful, and we loved relaxing beside the lake. As others have mentioned, the sunsets on the lake are lovely. The cell phone signal for ATT was weak and intermittent, but we didn’t mind being disconnected. We used the cottage as a central jumping off place for exploring Pictured Rocks, Mackinac Island, and Tahquamenon Falls, and it worked well, but if you plan on doing that, be aware that you will drive 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get to them because nothing is close in the UP. There is a long gravel road to get to the cottage, but it is very well graded, and once you get to the highway it is easy driving anywhere. We visited Gould City Park because we read there was a good trail there, but we never found it. However, if you are looking for a swimming beach on Lake Michigan, it looked very nice. Overall we highly recommend this place and hope to return.

Beautiful and peaceful get away

I booked this vacation rental to give our family a little break from the craziness of life. The booking process was easy and Tim was quick to send all pertinent information. Pulling into the driveway and hearing nothing but the wind through the trees and the water lapping on the shore confirmed we made the right choice in booking this rental. No tv and internet creates this little bubble, the "vacation bubble", where time seems to stand still and you can reconnect with family. The lake is beautiful and very quiet. Having a sandy beach is great especially for kids. Husband fished using the provided boat but had no luck though we saw lots of minnows! The cottage is simple, comfortable and stocked with all the kitchen utensils needed. Neighboring cottages are spaced far apart so privacy is wonderful. At the end of the week we really did not want to leave. Thanks Tim for a great, relaxing vacation. I would rent this cottage again, but maybe for two weeks next time!

Just the peaceful relaxation you need.

This was one of the quietest cabins I have ever stayed at. Tim did a great job communicating and between him and the prior guests, the place was left clean and tidy for my arrival. I will definitely return. It's centrally located to less than 2 hours from many sights in the UP. It's an old cabin so be prepared that not everything is up-to-date and there could be better beds. But, that;s just me being picky. It really is fantastic and just what I was looking for. The property is great, the lake is peaceful, sandy, and clean. Tim is a great host. I would suggest to new guests to arrive during the day, because the last leg of the trip to the cabin could get confusing if you aren't careful and at night would be a little rougher. Something that also I don't think was noted in the listing, there is a train that goes by twice a day, it's a low rumble for a minute and that's it. Sounded at first like someone coming into the driveway idling, but once you realize it's the train, it's no big deal. I just wanted to make sure any new renters were aware. All in all, it was a great vacation. 5 stars and a great place to stay!

Perfect spot for a secluded getaway

My wife and I have stayed several times at this location, it’s exactly what we’re looking for. Peace and quiet, Tidy little cabin. Great sunset over the lake and not far from all the upper peninsula activities. We’ve already got a couple of dates booked for next year.
