About this property

Beachfront property -- swimmable beach — accommodates from 2 to 12 people.

This is a magical place in an “off-the-grid” private community. (Solar provides our power, and water is delivered to our cistern). We’re located directly on a pristine, calm beach about 8 miles from San Jose del Cabo on the crystal clear, warm Sea of Cortez. Whale watch, snorkel, kayak, surf, enjoy the sea birds and be as active as you want at this wonderful retreat or reunion spot.

Wedding? Reception? Reunion? Also options . . .

We’re family and small group friendly with a unique combination of spaces spread out over an acre of property. We’ve got plenty of room for personal privacy and whole group activities.

The options are so varied that we can't quote everything here. Our basic pricing covers 2-8 guests in the “Beach House” (description follows). Please inquire if your needs are different. Direct communication can be had and choices adjusted once a reservation is made (this is due to VRBO policies).

Our “Beach House” can be rented as 1-3 bedrooms (BR1: Queen, BR2: Queen, BR3: Full & a twin bed) and has a fully equipped kitchen, living room and 2 bathrooms (one with shower, the other with shower over tub). There is a huge dedicated palapa-covered terraza adjacent to the home and overlooking the beach, plus another patio area. You'll find surfboards, snorkels, boogie boards, volleyball net, beach chairs and board games available for your use. There’s Wi-fi plus a TV with DVD player (and lots of DVDs). New built-in barbecue with tools provided. A real home away from home!

The “Penthouse”” can be added as additional space for larger groups. It's a large, sunny second-story bedroom with 1 Queen and 1 Twin beds, has bath with shower, and small balcony (with ocean view!) To ensure privacy, we do NOT rent this space on its own.

The entire compound is comfortable for a large extended family, yet each area has its own sense of privacy. There are many spots throughout the property to sit (or lay in a hammock!) and relax while enjoying the fabulous views.

Fantastic location. Beautiful house. 5 star destination.

We had an amazing time at Paseo Pelicanos. The location and view is simply stunning: perched above a protected little cove with an expanse of beautiful sandy beach and a short right point break right out front for the surfers. The house is a bit older, so some of the things are a little dated but all very charming, rustic and clean. Very well equipped.kitchen. Note that like all houses in zacatitos this place is off the grid, so don't expect long luxurious showers or blazing all the lights and appliances late into the night. I don't note AC either though we didn't need it for our early April visit. All in all: an amazing destination that we will return to!

An oasis to remember!

It was our first time staying the East Cape and staying at Paseo de Pelicanos was great! It is truly off grid and we had to quickly learn to conserve and slow our lives down. Meaning we had to turn off lights after walking out of a room, use water only when needed and conservatively. We learn to love making coffee the old school way and warming our left-over food over the stove only. We all truly appreciated going back to the basics by entertaining ourselves with reading, napping, playing in the ocean, and just enjoying each other's company since life at Paseo de Pelicanos was truly an oasis. Gloria and Jose the host are very generous in providing so much that a family would need on a vacation especially a distance from the city. Maurizo and Isabel the ground's staff so wonderful in responding immediately whenever we had questions or issues. This lovely place is totally for those who truly enjoy and appreciate serenity, simplicity, and tranquility. My family cannot thank Gloria enough for allowing us to experience her beautiful home. We can hardly wait to come back again.

Beautiful beach front

We enjoyed our stay at Gloria and Jose’s place. It is the most stunning beach. We brought our kids over Spring break and decided to stay in a home right on the ocean instead of staying at a resort and we are so glad we did! We saw so many whales each day. There isn’t anything around for groceries until you drive into San Jose which took us 4 miles on dirt road and another 4 miles on paved roads which you will find La Comer( a great grocery store) and lots of restaurants to choose from. In Los Zacatitos where the home is located, there is a restaurant called Zac’s. It was really good food and a beautiful restaurant about 8 minutes from the home. We loved it and couldn’t resist the flan at the end of each meal. It is a super safe area and by far the prettiest beach at your foot steps. Gloria and Jose were very kind and helpful. They have a friend that will even bring you a premade dinner which was so awesome one night! We loved her chicken enchiladas. We be paddle boarded and soaked up lots of rays.

Paradise

We spent Christmas with our family and had the best time. The house is lovely and feels like home. We swam, snorkeled, surfed, and relaxed. Gloria is an excellent host, thank you so much!

The Perfect Place

The house is perfect to get away from it all - you can watch whales from the terrace, swim/ paddleboard/ snorkel at the beach right in front, walk along the beach and, if you have a car, explore further up the coast (we didn't bother - we had everything we needed right there in the house and surrounding areas) The kitchen is fully equipped to cook anything you want - my only complaint is that we didn't stay longer! The signal and wifi aren't great but we didn't really care as were too busy enjoying the beach. And you have to be mindful of water and electricity as the house is solar powered - again, a blessing more than anything. 100% will return, zero complaints!

Baja beach house

We had an amazing time. Jose was super helpful and the house was as nice as the pictures but the views were better than any picture.

Absolutely Perfect!

My wife and I, along with another couple, came to 'Pelicanos' for 5 days ... 5 glorious days. The owners -- Gloria and Jose -- the perfect hosts. We had complete privacy (we're all clothing optional couples) and had the perfect time. The house is right on the beach and the supply room is full of paddle boards, surf boards, snorkeling gear, a BBQ and everything we needed to make our stay ... just perfect! From the patio, we saw 10-12 whales (up close, too!), manta rays, seals -- and lots of pelicans! We also had dinner up at Zac's Cafe twice, which was also excellent. We highly recommend 'Pelicanos' for couples and families.

Amazing place. Postcard location with everything you could ask for in a getaway.

What a wonderful place. Been coming to the East Cape area of Baja for several years and this was definitely one of the best spots. The views from the rental are absolutely stunning and you can't beat being able to walk off your back porch right to the beach. Jose and Gloria are wonderful hosts as well and made us feel welcome and right at home. It's also very close to the only bar/restaurant in the area. Can't recommend more. Yes, this is a bit of a remote location, but with the new paved road that almost reaches it, it is an easy shot into town while still giving you that remote feeling. This is not a Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo resort, so if that's what you are looking for, then look elsewhere. Also keep in mind that all of the places in the area are off the grid. Which means that energy is probably solar and water has to be trucked in. May be an inconvenience for some, but to me only emphasized how much we waste in our normal day to day life. I am definitely looking forward to returning here.

Loved my Stay

I have stayed at Paseo del Pelicano twice in the past two years. My time there has been very enjoyable and peaceful. The views are lovely both to the mountains and to the beach which is right in front of the house. To hear the the waves lapping on the beach at night is an enormous pleasure. The accomodations are very comfortable , all the services are excellent. I absolutely loved my stay and reccomend it amply.

Heaven

We have stayed at Gloria and Jose's every year for the past 10 years. Our kids surf and this is the ideal location for them with spots all over the East Cape. We travel with two families, 8 people in all and the house is perfect for us. The kids love to sleep out under the palapa and watch the most incredible sunrises you can imagine. We BBQ dinners and eat out under the stars. Zac's, the only restaurant around, offers a fun night or lunch out. This home is remote and off the grid which is what makes it so special.

The perfect spot to relax and unwind

I’ve stayed at Paseo del Pelicano (PdP) twice .. the first time in 2012 and more recently in 2016. What a special spot! (and what huge improvements to the access road between the two visits!) I love the pristine beaches and waters of Zacatitos and the fact that there’s a sheltered area in front of PdP that makes swimming safe for most of the year (that can’t be said for many spots in the Cabo area). My family enjoyed the great surfing and fishing nearby while I found that the home's huge ocean-front palapa is absolutely the best place in the world for a lazy afternoon of watching whales or reading a book. The home is cheery & charming in a traditional Spanish colonial style and offered all the touches our family could wish for – beach towels, ocean toys, games galore. I really enjoyed the remote feeling of Zacatitos .. such a “get away from it all” location .. the combo of the vast desert vistas and ocean and wild burros wandering the dirt lanes make this a really special spot. “Zacs Bar & Grill” in Zacatitos was simple and fun (and tasty) and a great option for meals when I didn’t feel like cooking. And there is a sweet little farmer’s market offering tasty breakfast items and veggies on Wednesdays just down the road. “Flora’s Field Kitchen”, enroute to San Jose del Cabo, is a working farm that offers a delicious adventure in organic food. Don't miss it! We visited San Jose del Cabo (now only 15 mins away) twice during our stay & enjoyed the restaurants, shops (and grocery stores) but I’ll admit I loved saying goodbye to row-after-row of timeshare condos and heading back to our secluded little slice of heaven at PdP. Thanks Gloria & Jose, for opening up your home. We’ll be back!

Great place to stay, but not uncomplicated!

We spent a week here with friends who had visited last year and loved it. This place is difficult to find and the desert roads are terrible, but once you arrive and see the beach and the house, it is fantastic. (especially to those of us from the cold north). Lots of space in the house for 2 couples. Loved the kitchen and living areas but best was the brand-new palapa (the old one was destroyed in Sept's hurricane) where we spent most our time talking, reading. painting, watching the sea for whales (lots of them) and having most of our meals. The owners were present next door and very friendly. Swimming in the ocean is wonderful. A few other caveats: since the place is off the grid, water must be conserved. ditto lights, hot water etc. There is no place nearby to buy groceries and the trek back to town is very arduous so you must stock up. There is a bar/restaurant (Zac's) where the locals go and you can too once in a while. but be prepared to make most of your meals. The VRBO info (# of rooms and rental price) is faulty due to a computer glitch I am sure.

About the host

Host profile image
José and Gloria Gutiérrez were born and raised in Los Angeles and are now retired teachers, living in Marin County, CA. We have been spending time in San José del Cabo with our family and friends since 1985 when we could only come for holiday vacations. Now we spend winters in Zacatitos and love sharing our spectacular property with friends and guests. We are usually on-site January to April to see to your needs and allow for your privacy.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the Los Cabos area when we came on an anniversary trip in 1985. We made some great friends that first trip who have inspired us to spend more and more time here. We love our growing community of Los Zacatitos because people here come to get away from the hubbub of city life and to focus on the natural beauty of the East Cape.

What makes this property unique

Playful whales and dolphins, swooping seabirds, chirping songbirds, buzzing hummingbirds can be seen and enjoyed much of the year. Sun rise and moon rise over the Sea of Cortez, sunsets behind the conical mountains of the Sierra Laguna, star-studded moonless nights are often breathtakingly beautiful. Our property has many comfortable places to observe these phenomena with your friends and loved ones.
