About this property

Our Place of Joy: An Ocean Retreat

Length of stay: MINIMUM 30 NIGHTS. Monthly rental. Property damage insurance required.

Kai Lani is a quiet gated community located in Ko Olina, a 640 acre oceanfront resort on West Oahu, the dry leeward side of the island. Ko Olina means 'Place of Joy,’ where the aloha spirit welcomes you to big blue skies punctuated by white clouds and palm trees kissed by the sun. Disney’s Aulani, the Four Seasons, and Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club anchor this premier resort.

All the luxuries of an upscale oceanfront property await our guests. Our 1320 square foot open-concept plan with its nine-foot ceilings offers three lovely bedrooms. Prepare for the day in the master bath with walk-in shower or a guest bathroom with a tub-shower combination. Ceiling fans cool each bedroom as well as the living area, and air conditioning provides comfort on balmy days. Smart TVs in the living room and in each bedroom provide family entertainment.

Furnished in a tropical coastal style, this comfortable first floor unit boasts a full kitchen to prepare home meals and gas grills just a two-minute walk away. Or venture further to dine at one of the many restaurants in Ko Olina’s pristine 5-star resort. Take a refreshing dip in Kai Lani’s heated pool, followed by a soak in the adjacent hot tub. Swim with the turtles at the Paradise Cove "Turtle" Beach, just two blocks away. Walk the 3-mile path along the four man-made lagoons of Ko Olina or spend the day there basking on one of the white sandy beaches. After dinner, walk down for a spectacular sunset at Milo Cove, the little beach minutes from our lanai. Spot an occasional Hawaiian monk seal or gentle sea turtle sunning itself on the rocks. Life doesn't get any better than this!

Interested in a day trip? Drive to the North Shore to watch the surfers ride the waves and grab a lunch of fresh garlic shrimp at a local shrimp truck. Our convenient location provides easy access to Waikiki, the Waianae coast, or the airport. Enjoy the best Oahu has to offer and return to your home away from home surrounded by lush tropical landscape -- our Place of Joy in Ko Olina.

Location

If staying in Oahu 30 days or longer, Ko Olina area is excellent. Just far enough away from short term vacationers to have some quiet, but still close enough to all the tourism activities, when wanted.

Our Happy Place

Our family had an amazing stay at Vicki's beautiful condo! From start to finish, Vicki was a fantastic host—responsive, accommodating, and incredibly easy to work with. The condo itself was stunning, both inside and out. It was spotless, well-stocked with everything we needed, and the beds were incredibly comfy. We particularly enjoyed the beach accessories available in the garage, which made our beach days even more enjoyable. Waking up to the breathtaking ocean view each morning and watching the incredible sunsets in the evening were definite highlights of our trip. The condo truly provided all the comforts of home, and we miss it already. It has become our favorite place to stay in Oahu, and we can’t wait to return!

Beautiful Condo - Perfect Location

We stayed for the month of September and this condo was perfect in every way for our family. Very clean and comfortable, and very well appointed. Vicki has thought of every detail. She was very responsive before and during our trip, and went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. The location is perfect, walking distance to Paradise Cove and the lagoons, and only a short drive to Kapolei for shopping. "Our Place of Joy" exceeded our expectations in every way and we can't wait to come back! Mahalo Vicki!

Paradise

We really loved this place. My husband actually said its his favourite vacation rental ever, which is saying a lot. The condo has a wonderful layout and the kitchen is very well stocked with all the appliences and utencils etc you need for cooking. Paradise cove is just a short walk away where we would snorkle with turtles in the morning and play on the beach. The lagoons are also a short walk away. The kids loved the pool area. The big pool is heated, so our 2 year old could go in the water without shivering. There is also a wonderful hot tub there. Its was so nice hanging out by the pool and we made a lot of friends. Vicky is very nice and responsive. It was such a joy staying here. Highly recommended.

Hesitant to let secrets out...

We have stayed in the Ko Olina area 8 times in a dozen years at 4 different developments (Kai Lani, Ko Olina Kai, Fairways and Plantation). This was our favorite property to date. The unit and its available bedding were the perfect size for our family of 5, including 2 teenagers. More than adequately stocked family room, bathrooms and kitchen made for an easier Costco run upon arrival. Pool and grill area made for a great alternative on days when the lagoons were a little crowded. Nearby Kapolei has pretty much everything else you could need while on vacation. Special shout-out to Romy, the late afternoon-evening manager on duty. Hustled and bent over backwards to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves while on the property. Thank you, Vicki, for a great property.

A decent unit in an amazing location

Pros: Ko Olina is a fantastic destination and Kai Lani is a lush, beautiful complex within it. We’ve stayed in Kai Lani on three separate locations. This unit has a nice partial view of the ocean and is in a great spot within the complex. The owner was quick to respond to communications, check in/check out directions were very clear, and the garage is packed with things that you might otherwise end up buying (chairs, wagon, beach toys etc). Cons: The unit is in need of some R&M and a deep clean. Unit has not been maintained to the same standard as the complex itself, which is quite upscale. We ended up purchasing many household items that others might expect to find in a unit that requires a 30 day minimum stay (though that was offset by the items included in the garage). Overall, a pleasant stay in a beautiful corner of the world.

Another Fabulous Visit

This was our second visit to Our Place of Joy. We had the best time. The condo and grounds were perfect for us. Our group consisted of grandparents and adult children who worked remotely. We also vacationed! (Zipline, golf, pool, beach, snorkeling, lagoons....). We enjoyed visiting with our Honolulu family and tried to time our drives in and back to the off hours to avoid some of the traffic. Vicki was immediately available for any issues. It was a great visit in a perfect place.

Sanctuary

We loved this property. It truly was "a home away from home." My family and I had grown up in the islands and had known Ko Olina in the times of sugar cane fields/kiawe wood. It was known as Sand Tracks in those days of Dad going fishing and us kids swimming all day. This vacation rental meant a lot as we got to reminisce in such a peaceful setting: clean, organized, love the Hawaiian fixtures, and oh so quiet!

Great place

I needed extra room for family who were on-island for a family wedding. I rented this place for one month, and couldn’t have been more pleased. Communication with the host was easy, and they were very accommodating with an early checkin. Unit was clean, well stocked and roomy. Lots of beach gear available. Beautiful ocean views from the living room couch, and even better from the lanai. Would rent again

Paradise

We really enjoyed this condo, it had a great ocean view, sunsets were spectacular , there’s a little beach which is right front of the condo 5 min walking distance, where you can see sea turtles, dolphins and lots colorful fish. The condo had everything we needed, everything was well labeled, instructions were very clear, rooms were very nice and clean, especially master bedroom mattress was so comfortable, kitchen was fully equipped, it had a big screen smart TV, games etc. This condo is walking distance to major hotels where we enjoyed fine dining, beautiful lagoons, shaved ice cream, there’s a lot of options for dining, pizza, ABC store, Starbucks. Costco and Target, Walmart , Safeway are all 5-10 minute drive by car. We also loved the pool, we felt very safe , gated community, we truly enjoyed our stay, our host was always available with any questions we had, she was very helpful with check in and check out process. This place was truly a piece of paradise and it will make your stay very memorable, we highly recommend it.

Expectations exceeded.

Being our first time to Hawaii, we had very high expectations of what we wanted for our first trip, and Vicki and Ty’s listing not only promised to meet our wishes, but actually delivered far more. Their hale is absolutely beautiful, and set in a perfect setting on the leeward coast. I was somewhat skeptical that the photos may have been taken in a way to make it look nicer than it was, but they are not, in reality, the pictures don’t do justice to how beautiful it is here. The condo is set up far better than one could imagine, with comfortable seating in the living areas, and luscious beds. The views here are breathtaking, with amazing sunsets every evening. The proximity to the big resorts was something I wasn’t too sure about, for fear it would feel over commercialized here, but that was quickly dispelled, as it is a gated community, with many locals living on site. Their isn’t a huge mass of tourists to deal with here, yet you are close enough to be able to walk just a few short minutes to a beautiful protected lagoon, where you will see turtles pretty much every day. The open area to the West of the unit, has unobstructed views of the ocean, for a relaxing time on the Lanai to sit and relax. While the highway is close by, the traffic noise is not very bothersome, as long as you accept the fact that people do live here, and must commute in order to fat to and from the things in their daily lives. We drove ito all areas of the island from here, and it is only about 45-50 minutes from here to the windward side of the island, barring any Honolulu rush hour traffic, which is very heavy. We have had every want met, and will choose Vicki and Ty’s condo on any return trip. We were met by Shawna, their local rep, and she was very helpful in showing us around the unit, and giving us tips on where to eat, visit and shop in the area, and her recommendations were spot on. Rest assured you will not be disappoint noted if you choose to stay here, the only issue will be that you won’t want to leave.

Oasis in Paradise!

We have traveled to Oahu many, many times over the years, and stayed in all sorts of locations and accommodations. We have to say that this is our number one favorite. This unit is part of the Kai Lani development within the Ko Olina resort, featuring low-rise, low density condominiums close to the ocean and resort amenities without the hustle and bustle of the major resorts. The Leeward side of Oahu is less touristy in Waikiki with beautiful beaches and local character. We visited other parts of the island during our stay but always looked forward to returning to the condo complex for a swim, a cookout, a good book and another glorious sunset! The condo itself is clean, comfortable, well-stocked and quiet. The grounds are meticulous. The owners get an A+ for communication and responsiveness. Thanks Vicki and Ty for making our stay so special.

Paradise Found

Paradise Found We have always enjoyed our trips to Hawaii, however our stay in Kai Lani in Ko Olina exceeded our expectations. We loved the beachfront location of Vicki and Ty’s condo with spectacular ocean views. Since the patio faces the west, beautiful sunsets could be viewed every evening around 6:30. The Kai Lani community is very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The condo is beautifully decorated with a kitchen equipped with all the pots and pans, dishes, and other necessities needed to cook. The master bedroom suite has a nice walk-in closet and a roomy bath with a large shower. Vicki provides plenty of towels for the bath and beach. We were there for 6 weeks and if you stay for any length of time, I would suggest that you get a Costco membership. We purchased our gas at Costco and it was much cheaper. Costco, Target, and Safeway are located approximately 4 miles away. You do need a car, however there are great beaches, restaurants, and shops within walking distance. My favorite beach was Paradise Cove where you can swim with the sea turtles. My favorite restaurant called Monkey Pod Kitchen has a happy hour at 3 to 5:30...but wait until 4:30 so you can be seated upstairs. We also did a lot of our shopping at the Swap Meet in the Aloha Stadium on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. We loved shopping at the Pearlridge Center after eating breakfast at Anna Miller’s in Aiea. Zippy’s is also a good restaurant if you are looking for local cooking. Hawaii is our paradise! Mahalo, Vicki and Ty, we loved every minute of our stay in your condo in Hawaii.

The property was perfect for our stay of 2, the heated pool, and easy access to H1 was accommodating

The property definitely met our expectations. We had a perfect view from our lanai and a walk to the beach was less than 5 minutes. We did have a little noise from the road, but it didn’t impact our enjoyment. We had access to the Ko Olina golf course and the lagoons. Shopping was close, to include the other attractions that Oahu has to offer. The rental had all the amenities that we needed. It actually felt like home away from home.

Excellent accommodations with outstanding service by owner

We were blessed to stay in Vicki's condo this summer. The location is great and the condo is spacious and very clean. Vicki does an outstanding job of providing all the information needed to ensure a smooth check-in to the condo, a wonderful stay, and a smooth check-out. The kitchen is equipped with nice dishes and high quality pots and pans. All the cabinets and closets in the home are tidy and well organized. The beds are very comfortable. The furniture in the living room and breakfast room is also very comfortable. Oahu is a beautiful island with so much to see and do. We loved having such a nice place to stay while we relaxed in paradise and had fun exploring the sights of Oahu. Thank you, Vicki, for sharing your lovely Ko Olina home with us.

Another beautiful stay in Ko'olina!!

Spending a month in Kai Lani makes you forget how busy life can be. This was our second stay at this beautiful, well-appointed condo. We were treated to numerous upgrades since our last stay, new television, refrigerator, and others that demonstrated Vicki and Ty’s commitment to providing their guests a memorable, positive experience. We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen since we ate breakfast in the condo each morning before heading out. During our stay, we dined at the Four Seasons, Aulani, Roy’s as well as several restaurants in Kapolei which were only a few miles away. On several occasions, we enjoyed the beach chairs and beach toys that were provided. Thank you, Vicki and Ty, for another fabulous vacation at your place in paradise.

Love Staying Here!

Mrs. Vicki's home is absolutely wonderful! It is in a gated community, right on the beach, and centrally located! I utilize her home as much as possible for when we travel to Hawaii. She is the most amazing host and very responsive and attentive to all your needs. Her home is beautiful and perfect for business, family or a romantic retreat. I definitely recommend her home to those who are looking for a peaceful getaway!

Experience Kamaaina!

I would say that we would agree with all the other reviews posted. Our month long stay in the summer had a great view with easy access to the open water swimming in the pacific ocean. For those comfortable, the snorkeling and interaction with pods of dolphins and incredible sea life is amazing. Definitely having ample amenities of your own kitchen, washer/dryer, beach access, and 3 bedrooms with OCEAN VIEW is unrivaled by other offerings. Vicki was very warm, friendly, and accessible for any needs or requests. The only drawback is that when sitting out on the patio, a minimal amount of road noise can be heard. Keep in mind, nothing comes close to the overall experience and value for Ko' Olina with ocean views.

A wonderful and memorable experience!

This year, we decided to have a longer vacation in Hawaii. We had been to the Koolina area many times before, but our stay this time has been one of the best family vacations, thus far. The unit was clean, spacious, nicely decorated, and luxurious. Everything we needed and more was provided. The fully stocked and full sized kitchen made cooking at home an ease. There is also something to be said about having a nice laundry unit for washing. The view was breathtaking from inside the unit and on the lanai during breakfast and sunsets. The grounds were beautifully maintained and the whole resort area was gorgeous. We were located near the small beach as well as walking distance to the lagoons and resort marketplace. Kapolei was just minutes away with a new mall, many restaurants and shopping, including an organic store, Costco and Target nearby. We went daily for walks or runs early in the morning along the lagoons and on 2 occasions, came across a pod of dolphins. We ended our morning walks with a leisurely coffee stop at the beautiful Four Seasons or at the Honolulu Coffee Co. We also enjoyed going for burgers (they have a bunless option, which was delish) and shakes and hung out after dinner at the Four Seasons and lagoons. We went swimming almost daily at the small beach, lagoons or the fun community pool. The Paradise Cove beach is great and safe for families with littles. We saw a Moray Eel hiding in the rocks and turtles at the rocky lagoon next to Paradise Cove. Each time we went to the beach, we saw or swam with turtles, which were amazing experiences! The sunsets were spectacular from where we were located! Our stay was long enough to have plenty of time to relax and also explore the island. One of our favorite excursions was a drive to Kailua beach, which I think is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. We also took a sailboat ride off of Waikiki, which was another highlight of our trip. The Northshore was located just 30 minutes to the shrimp trucks and Turtle beach. I can't say enough about how wonderful this place and our vacation was. Vicki was a pleasure to communicate with. She was lovely in all of our conversations as she truly desired for us to have a wonderful vacation without any glitch and she delivered. Vicki, your place was truly a place of joy and felt like a dream home away from home. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your gorgeous place. We hope to be back in the next years to come.

About the host

Hosted by Vicki Cobb

Host profile image
My husband and I had retired, having lived and worked in the Chicago area our entire lives. An electrical contractor, Ty owned and ran Ty Cobb Electric, while I taught English to high school students. We also dabbled in real estate, including rental properties. As for recreation, Ty loved to hunt and fish; I loved to take photographs. We are proud of our family, including four children and nine grandchildren.

Why they chose this property

We had vacationed in Ko Olina as timeshare owners for over 10 years. Our timeshares treated us well in January and early February, providing us a 6-week reprieve from below zero temperatures, ice, and snow. As owners we were treated like royalty at Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club. We enjoyed the beautiful grounds, the lush swimming pools, amazing lagoons, and the 3-mile walking path along the ocean. We fell so in love with the area that we set out to purchase a condo in Ko Olina.

We decided on Kai Lani Estates, the only low-density Ko Olina condos with ocean views. In 2011 Ko Olina was a buyer's market, so we made an offer 21-D based on photographs provided by our realtor. Having owned and rehabbed properties in the Midwest, we were not new to real estate investments. But purchasing this property sight unseen took a leap of faith, a risk that neither of us have regretted. In fact, my husband has threatened to tie himself to a palm tree when it's time to fly back to the mainland! Our grandchildren from Bozeman, Montana and St Louis, Illinois have fallen in love too. They have enjoyed spending the day swimming at the Paradise Cove beach in Ko Olina, known as Turtle Beach. Gentle lumbering turtles swim there every day. We love to share our Place of Joy with friends and family.

What makes this property unique

I have dreamed of a waterfront view. While working, we had purchased rental properties in New Buffalo, Michigan, but lakefront property on Lake Michigan was beyond our reach. A cozy cottage next to a stream and a block from the marina was as close as we came. Kai Lani has satisfied a life-long dream for me. As a former boater and fisherman, Ty has loved the water too. The ocean has restored us.
