About this property

Casa Ventura: secure, quiet , tropical surroundings and BRAND NEW POOL.

This is a special place. It is tucked into a small alcove about 15-20 minutes by foot to the city centre of Samara, or 5 minutes by bicycle. From the house you can walk 5-10 minutes to three beaches where you can walk, surf, fish, swim, or go tide pooling. There are hiking trails in the hills above only minutes from your doorstep. One thing that is great about Casa Ventura, is that one does not need to car to live there: the road to town if flat, no hills, as in other areas around Samara, so you can walk or bike easily to town or to the beaches.

The small neighborhood is occupied mostly, not entirely, by expats. Still, you have friendly contact with locals.

The house was built by a local artist 20 years ago. There is a clear Tico feeling to it, with post and beam ceiling, and his own paintings, in every room.

The home is well maintained and can accommodate up to 4 people. The master bedroom has a king sized bed and air conditioning for your comfort. The second bedroom has a queen bed. ALL bedrooms have AC. There are two full bathrooms so no waiting when you are getting ready to go out to one of Samara's many fantastic restaurants.

The home has a BRAND NEW SWIMMING POOL (2024) in a nicely landscaped backyard with mature tropical trees. There are tree covered breezy patio areas around the pool. The fully equipped kitchen has been upgraded with induction cooktop and air fryer and offers the comforts of home. The kitchen/lounge and dining room is an open floor plan with a comfy seating area looking out into the garden through double patio doors.

The dining room table and chairs are hand-made by a local artisan and located in the center of the main room, adjacent to the kitchen.

In spite of having a nice dining room, we enjoy nearly all of our meals in the rear patio. The rear patio overlooks the garden, the NEW SWIMMING POOL and its lush tropical greenery and the ever present songbirds.

The only other sound that you might hear in the peaceful Casa Ventura is the call of the Howler Monkey that can be heard during dusk and dawn. If you decide to go for a hike there is a good chance you will see one and can howl 'hello' back to them.

To facilitate your stay, we have 2 hosts who are available to respond to your inquiries and resolve any issues.

Casa Ventura, Samara remains a well-priced alternative for those wanting to stay near the sea and enjoy the tranquility of a blossoming town with a low-key vibe.

Beautiful relaxing place

Casa Ventura is very comfortable and relaxing. The pool in the backyard is wonderful as they keep it cool. My daughter and I stayed for a week and hated to leave. The house had all the amenity's needed for a great vacation. Both bedrooms have AC units which made sleeping restful. It is a short ride or walk to town and beach. We would definitely stay at Casa Ventura next time we go to Costa Rica.

Good for Families

I wasn't going to write a review because the owner was so kind, and I've never written a bad review, but my conscience nags me. I was a single traveler without a car, hoping to stay long term. I left early because the home was not "quiet and serene." The neighbors' houses are about 5" away. On one side there were three barking dogs and the residents' smoke would waft into the house. On the other side, the Tico family was quite active. In the front, there is house construction. Not only the noise, but the house was dark and the laundry machine rotten. Plus, one needs a car. It's not the distance, it's the fact that when the sun goes down at 6:00, it's treacherous. I also felt the beach was dirty and boring. I moved 50 kilometers south and had a wonderful stay at an unspoiled beach. There are A LOT of great things about this house. The owner was awesome. It just isn't right for a single, car-less female traveler, at least not this one. I really wanted it to work out.

Family Vacation in Samara

We loved Sámara and this house was the perfect size and location. Close to town, but felt like we were removed from everything (in a good way). The beds were comfortable. And, we appreciated cooling off in pool. The Iguana Verde grocery was close and had a great selection.

Review of Casa Ventura

Louis's property was a perfect fit for my wife and I and our daughter, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It was a quiet haven in bustling Samura and yet convenient to town and the beach. There's a nice pool in the back along with a shower.

Nice place near the beach!

We had a great stay at Casa Ventura - nice location a short drive to town (Sámara) and a few beaches. The pool was great after spending the morning at the beach. The house was adequately equipped for cooking meals, WiFi was decent and beds were comfy. Thanks Erin!

Great Location

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Ventura. Great location, especially if you enjoy walking or biking. Its a 20 minute walk away from Samara, nice and quiet. 10 minute walk to both Buena Vista beach and Samara beach. Backyard was nice for lounging around the pool and eating meals. Beds were comfortable with good air conditioning at night. Property manager and owner both responded quickly to enquiries. Great value for what we paid. Would stay again.

Our little oasis

We had a great week at casa Ventura. The new pool is wonderful and in the afternoons, the pool area is fully shaded which makes for a glorious oasis on hot days. The kitchen has everything we needed to cook at home (which is great when you are traveling with kids!) we enjoyed a movie night or two, and many meals both inside and out. The aircon in the bedrooms meant we all slept well and we were able to park right out front. It’s a quiet area (which we loved) and an easy car trip into Samara. We swam at nearby Cangrejal, Samara and Carillo! We also attended the Intercultura Spanish School for a week which was great. Learning vocab by the pool isn’t a bad option. 😃 The owners were great to deal with, and the local team on the ground were very friendly. We have no hesitation in recommending casa Ventura. Thanks for a great stay.

Great stay in Samara

Our family of 5 (kids aged 6, 8, and 10) enjoyed our stay at Casa Ventura. The pool was perfect for afternoon relaxing after some morning beach time. We didn't cook any meals, but we were able to manage all of our breakfasts and lunches with ease. The location was close enough to Samara, but not too close so that we felt like we were just a bit "out of town" which avoided the hustle and bustle of the small community. Amenities were nearby and we had great access to town and the beaches, which were really good for kids. Louis was a great host and very responsive before and during our stay. We recommend Casa Ventura!

Our home away from home in Samara

The property was very nice. The house and the pool were very clean and inviting. We moved in and felt right at home and didn't want to leave. It was very quiet at night except for the howler monkey and tropical birds which we heard every day at sunset and sunrise. It was like living in a jungle. The owner Louis was very easy to work with and always answered own questions and concerns quickly. We would like to stay here again the next time we visit Samara.

a beautiful home close to town

The house is very secure with locking gates. We were a 2 mom drive to town and beaches. The Iguana store down the street is very handy for quick groceries and snacks. The owners have set the house rules up in a very organized manner. It’s very clear on how to lock doors etc If we had questions the property manager Melissa was helpful and he owner Louis answers messages right away. We would definitely go back to a Sámara, and we would stay in Casa Ventura again.

Authentic Tico Experience

Casa Ventura is in a neighborhood slightly off the beaten path so it feels less touristy and more authentic. We enjoyed the lovely orange stucco, paintings, and tilework. The house was peaceful and quiet with plenty of shelf space to organize our luggage. We found it interesting to learn to use a Costa Rican washing machine and line-dry our clothes. We appreciated that the pool was shaded in the afternoons. After spending our mornings at the beach we'd often need to stay out of the sun for a few hours and the pool was the perfect place to do that. The pool was the perfect size for our family and worked well for slightly older kids who could also play safely in the yard when they weren't swimming. Great Costa Rican getaway!

Ok for adults

I have never left a negative review, but the pictures on VRBO are very misleading. Paint is coming off the walls, pool is in bad shape. This property needs a lot of work. When we got there all 3 shower heads were clogged up. There was not a working light in the master bathroom. One of the ceiling fan’s motor in the living area was burned out. They did have someone come and replace the ceiling fan. The problem with lighting in the master bathroom couldn’t be fixed until the dry season, they brought us a lamp. The grill they had was unusable. The bed were comfortable. Nice clean sheets. We could have gotten a really nice place for the same amount of money. I believe the price should be lowered to reflect the quality and age of the house.

A Garden Oasis on the Outskirts of Town

Overall we had a wonderful three weeks at Casa Ventura. The house is located in a generally quiet neighbourhood on the outskirts of town. It is a 2km walk into the main shops and beach in Samara. In the opposite direction about 1km is a lovely secluded ocean access at Buena Vista where you can walk to see howler monkeys and enjoy the sunset. We stayed at Casa Ventura from mid November until early December, which is the end of the rainy season and love to walk, so chose not to rent a car. The first kilometre of the walk into town is down a very muddy road which was sometimes challenging to navigate after a night of hard rain. The neighbourhood is lovely though you are close to your neighbours who have a number of dogs. There is also a lot of building going on around the neighbourhood so construction noise if you are home during the day. The house itself is simple but fairly well equipped. The beds were comfortable and the living room and kitchen were well laid out with a large tv, good fridge, gas stove and everything you need to cook at home. The pool and back yard are truly an oasis and are very refreshing after getting back from an excursion into town.

Stayed a month- could have stayed forever

We loved our time at Casa Ventura. My husband and I worked remotely while we stayed in Samara with our kids. Here are things we liked about this property: LOCATION Casa Ventura is located outside of the main Samara town. It’s lush, quiet, and the neighbors are extremely friendly. We had friends who stayed in town and the trucks and motorcycles all night kept their kids awake. We slept to the sounds of the jungle. Because it is slightly out of town, we rented a golf cart and that was soooo fun. We went on daily runs on trails right near the house. Lots of jungle trail leading to secluded beaches, downed planes, and breathtaking overlooks. We loved our jungle runs! Additionally, if you are debating between Samara and another town… take my advice and just stay in Samara. We felt like we often had the entire beach to ourselves. The residents ooze kindness. We went to other cities in Costa Rica and we all agree Samara cannot be beat. AMENITIES The pool in the back was a great addition to our stay. The kitchen was well supplied and we cooked in many nights. Pillows and linens were better than the other hotels we stayed at in Costa Rica. There is a grill in the back for a bbq. Showers were great. You do live in the jungle so you have to live accordingly- cleaning up your food outside, composting, and taking your trash to the local drop- but it’s part of the charm. MANAGEMENT We visited during rainy season and in a fluke storm, there was some flooding in a portion of the property. Louis, the owner, and his onsite staff responded immediately with care and support. They went above and beyond to make the situation better. We communicated needs openly and they responded. Louis is a great man!

Best value for money in Samara!

We stayed here as a couple for 2 weeks Feb/Mar 2020. I don't think a day went by that we didn't turn to each other and comment on how lucky we were to find this great house! We visit Samara regularly and usually stay at a B&B, this was far far superior and did not cost that much more per night. I really don't think you can do any better in Samara at this price point. This was just barely in our budget so we were ecstatic that we got our own pool, a beautifully landscaped yard in a super quiet and friendly neighborhood, kitchen, living room, 2 bathrooms, king sized bed, washing machine, great wifi, smart TV etc!! We were so happy here. The house is still a work in progress but I believe it's priced absolutely right for what you get. The house does have a few cons and if your budget is larger and these are things that would really bother you then perhaps a fancier more expensive rental would be preferred for you: The living room couch is quite hard and uncomfortable, the bathrooms have poor lighting with little counter space and the outdoor patio pool loungers don't have cushions so are hard and not comfortable to lay out on. We had brought cheap blow up pool loungers with us from home and just used them as cushions on the outdoor loungers, this is a good solution for anyone else coming here. Outside of that though, the showers had lots of hot water and great water pressure, the king bed was a little bit on the firm side but not in anyway uncomfortable & we both slept really well, the house has lots of lamps and good ambiance at night, the kitchen was extremely well stocked and had everything you could need and there was good a/c in the bedrooms. Way more pros than cons. I personally don't think you need a car in Samara unless you're planning day trips out of town. I do however think this house is too far to walk to town...it would be a solid 25 mins which isn't bad in theory but that's 1 hour of walking round trip in the heat every time you want to go to town and that would get old really fast. We rented a car to get to Samara, returned it the next day and picked up 2 bicycles we rented ahead of time through the Samara Info Center for $30/week and it was perfect. A 10min bike ride on flat roads was really enjoyable for both of us and I can recommend this to others. You can also rent e-bikes and golf carts/ATV's and that would be cheaper and easier than renting a car to get around town. If this is available for your dates don't hesitate, book it!

Disappointing, not what we expected

My husband and I stayed 5 nights, very disappointing, not what we expected. Description and reviews make it seem secluded and private. It’s not. There are houses very close on 3 sides, roofs of the houses touch each other and easy to see into other yards. There were many needed repairs. We’re not sure if everything truly was damaged by recent renters as we were told or if the house is just not well maintained. Patio screen door was broken. The frame was bent - hard to open and close. When closed at the bottom there was a 2 inch gap at the top. We couldn’t have the glass door open in the evening to cool off the non air-conditioned main room due to bugs coming in. We were told a previous renter ran through the screen and damaged it, and the custom frame required a trip to San Jose to order and couldn’t be fixed until after we left. The kitchen window screen had 2 holes. We were told the screen had been replaced the prior week. The repair person supposedly came by while we were out, but it was not fixed. Pool was smaller than pictured and cloudy the first 1.5 days. Erin actually pointed this out, pool person had treated it. It gradually improved. Two of the ground lights around pool were missing. We were told replacements were ordered, but wouldn’t be there until after we left. The pool sweep was broken and the skimmer part had a broken frame. We were told they would get a new one Thursday in San Jose, however, it was not there when we left Saturday. Air conditioner in 1 bedroom didn’t cool the room. Erin offered to have someone look at it, we asked her to wait until we left as we didn’t want a repair person to interrupt our stay. The pictured hammock was not there when we arrived. When I mentioned to Erin, she said a previous renter damaged it and it was being repaired. She checked on it and brought it over that afternoon. 4 of 5 nights, we were woken up by a very loud animal jumping and running on the roof. We didn’t have water most of 1st day due to a water main break. It went out at 1:30pm and was still out when we went to bed at 10:30. Full water pressure wasn’t back until 3rd day. Erin brought us 2 jugs of water. Pool chairs are not as pictured. Chairs with black frames get VERY hot in the sun. Overall, too many issue to give anything higher than a 2. I hope they make the repairs and show photos of them. On the good side, Erin was really nice and wanted to help out.

Great little private house.

Had a great vacation. Thanks so much for allowing us to stay again. We really enjoy this house. Private back yard and pool. 20 minute walk to town and surrounding beaches. We had an issue with the air conditioning in one of the bedrooms and it was fixed immediately. The only small suggestion I may have is to have the pool run a little longer and have the pool guy come a little more often. The pool did become a little cloudy after about 5 days of heavy use. Thank you for everything. Hoping to be back!!

Beautiful oasis

This was a lovely oasis. Walking distance to beach and shops, but quiet and peaceful. The owners provide all the information you need and the property manager was great. The only check in problem was the locks and keys which we have found to be common in CR...old stiff locks , it would be very easy to break a key. Written instructions for TV would be helpful. We loved the home and wish the owners success with future plans!

About the host

Host profile image
We are a retired couple from Canada. We spend a few month per year at Casa Ventura, and we make it available for others to enjoin, when we are not there.

Why they chose this property

We enjoy the beach and the heat, but as Canadians, we do not have built-in ability to sustain that heat and sun for long hours. So, in Casa Ventura, we have our refuge close to the beach: a perfect mix of sun and shade throughout the day, in addition to having a pool, to give us a chance to lower body temperature even further. Being from British Columbia, we enjoy being close to nature: in Casa Ventura, we have that perfect mix of being close to tropical forest, yet close to town. What we hear: tropical birds and animals. What we see: tropical greenery when we sit in rear patio by the pool.
The house is open concept: roomy, yet not too large, with local feel, local feel that is enhanced by paintings of local landscape, made by original owner who was an artist.

What makes this property unique

First Samara Beach is the Perfect beach for those who like to relax in the water and by the water.
Casa Ventura is the perfect place to observe and enjoy nature, yet close to town, for its conveniences, and close the beaches.
The open concept of the main room feels spacious, and there is a definite local feel in its design and decoration, while having all modern conveniences.
The garden offers a great mix of sun and shade at all time in the day, and the landscape is lush with tropical trees and shrubs, which can be enjoyed from the rear patio. Those tropical trees attract multitude of song birds and animals which can be enjoyed from dusk to dawn.
The perfect escape...
