About this property

La Gisamìa. Pure Nature.

In the heart of the wood, with their original stones structure, these old cottages are only 8 minutes car away from the centre of Petralia Sottana, the medieval village, head office of the 'Parco delle Madonie', which with its cathedral, its stonehouses and its paving ways, offers a still authentic example of old sicilians architecture. Ideal starting-point for hikes in the mountains and for visiting the other wonderful villages of the Park (Petralia Soprana, Polizzi Generosa, Geraci Siculo, Gangi, Castelbuono, Isnello), the cottages are in a private property of some hectares, peaceful and isolated.

Cozy and homely, the cottages are named after the surrounding trees (the caption below every picture reports the name of the cottage). They can be rented single or together, from two up to eight guests. Independent and not visible, the houses are a few hundred meters away one from the other.

The House of the Almond Tree suits for maximum four guests. It consists of a living, fully equipped kitchen, double bedroom, bedroom with bunk bed, a fully equipped bathroom with shower and bidet, outside terrace with stone pavement, private land. It's fully equipped (tv hd ddt, kettle, hairdryer, internet wi-fi, etc.) and the only one with washing-machine and dishwashing-machine, fireplace and gas heating system.

The House of the Pear tree suits for maximum four guests. The groundfloor consists of an open living room with kitchen, table, chairs and sofa and also two single beds in a corner aside. There is also a fully equipped bath with shower, bathtub, two sinks and a bidet. On a spacious mezzanine is a double bed. The house provides all conveniences (wood stove, tv sat hd, cd player, kettle, hairdryer, wifi, etc.).

From Petralia, one hour and half driving, is possible to reach Cefalù and the sea of the northern coast of Sicily, a part from Palermo, Agrigento, Catania and Etna. La Gisamìa is the ideal place for those who love nature and mountain, for those who search for peace and silence. For those who love animals: dogs, cats and horses, cute and tame, who will visit you to receive some caresses.

If you like hiking in the mountains, this is the perfect location to stay. The landlord Anne takes great care of their guests and the house. Strongly recommended.

If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful holiday surrounded by nature, La Gisamia is the perfect place to stay. Each of Ferdinando and Anne's cottages have their own private space away from the other buildings, so there is no danger of being disturbed. Although Ferdinando was away when we visited, he was still the perfect host: helpful, reliable, relaxed, personable and excellent at communicating. We understood his English perfectly. He was more than happy to answer any questions we had via WhatsApp / email and sent us clear directions on how to get to the property. He advised us where we could buy food locally or eat out if we wished. Ferdinando also recommended hikes and places of interest based on his understanding of our own interests and hobbies (in our case history and walking). Ferdinando's property manager, Massimo, was friendly, helpful and welcoming when we arrived and made sure that we had everything we needed, including internet (if required) for a small fee. The House of the Pear Tree contained both a heater and a wood stove. There was plenty of wood available, so we were comfortable and warm during the cold nights. The kitchen was adequately equipped and there was plenty of space for clothing in the bedroom drawers, as well as a clothes rail and shoe rack. We very much enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return for another holiday at a future date.

truly beautiful escape

My girlfriend and I stayed 4 nights at the House of the Pomegranates which is the smaller of the two properties. It's a beautifully restored stone cottage that is essentially one room with a small kitchen area, a table to eat at, a pullout sofa that is also your bed and bathroom with a nice shower. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need, and we cooked several meals at home, taking advantage of the fresh herbs in the garden and wild fennel that grows everywhere. The property is perfect for relaxing, with lots of spots to sit with a coffee, read, write, think. After a week of hot weather and road-tripping around the western and southern coast of Sicily, this was a perfect respite. Breezy mountain air, sunny days and cool nights, quiet, cozy, and extremely peaceful. It's well situated for exploring the Madonie region, with plenty of nearby hikes, scenic drives, and beautiful mountain villages to explore. Ferdinando was an exceptional host. We were welcomed by a basket of fruit and snacks, and a detailed list of recommendations for hikes, outings, and restaurants. He went above and beyond to accommodate all our questions and was always very quick to respond and easy to communicate with. We would highly recommend this spot to anyone! Make sure you look at the photos specifically in the listing since they show both properties, and one is larger and one is smaller.

Top

If you want a secluded space in the Madonie Mountains and your party consists of no more than 2, then this is it. Secluded and yet really close to Petralia (and the parc entrance) or to other fine places such as Castelbuono. You have your own gate and drive way and an impressive garden. The house is small but tasty and comfortable, despite the foldable bed. Reinier

Wundervoller Urlaub.

Danke.

we were unable to stay but know we would have loved being there

I am sure that we would have very much loved the house if we had been able to stay there. However, we had to abandon the holiday for personal reasons. Ferdinando gave us very good information and was very understanding about our reasons for not being able to be there. We do hope to be able to stay in the house in the future and from what we know, about the house and the owner would have no hesitation about recommending it as a very good place to stay.

To recommend without limitations

Gisamia is just a wonderful place to stay, peaceful and charming, embedded in a breathtaking landscape. The owner is very helpful and concerned, the house has been furnished with great tastefulness, it has been provided with everything useful. A beautiful place to dip in a different world, we would have liked to stay longer.

Spent a lovely week here walking in the Madonie mountains. Bright weather, snow patches in places, spring flowers and a kind welcome from Ferdinando who showed us to the house when we arrived at midnight after a late flight. A comfortable house in a beautiful, quiet setting making it very easy to relax from day one. Lots of helpful suggestions for walks and almost nobody around. Fabulous.

An amazing spot in a beautiful place

The cabin, the nature, the close by civilization, it was all increadible. I could not more whole-heartedly recommend this "property". This is an ideal location if you enjoy hiking which Ferdinando can really help you out with. Also if you want to just enjoy existing for a while. The only thing I really missed was some cast iron skillets :)

Small Paradise

The location of Gisamìa is very nice for lovers of nature and quietness. The cottage is small but has everything you need and is nicely decorated. It's surrounded by a big and beautiful garden. Ferdinando was extremely helpful and gave us many recommendations on hikes and trips to enjoy the area. We visited Madonie in March, on higher altitudes there was still snow, which made it possible to go skiing. The nights were cold, but the woodstove in the cottage kept us warm. We would certainly recommend this place.

Quiet and Peaceful Rural Retreat

A charming cottage in the mountains, surrounded by woodland and orchards - a great place to see the local birds and flowers. We stayed in the Pear Tree House which is ideal for a couple or small family. Ferdinando provided a warm and helpful welcome and was always pleased to offer his help and assistance. I would recommend this property to those looking for a quiet and relaxed holiday in the Sicilian Mountains.

A delightful cottage in a beautiful location.

We were met by Massimo and shown to the cottage. He had lit the fire and it was delightfully warm. What a friendly welcome. That you Massimo. The location and ambience exceeded expectations. Such a peaceful and relaxing location. We enjoyed exploring the grounds on our rest days. The walking notes left by Ferdinando were excellent and provided many options to explore the region. We will treasure our memories of the area of the friendly locals we met and the hospitality shown by Ferdinando and his family.

rilassante e confortevole

Petralia Sottana, casa vacanza 6696209.

Nice, calm, comfortable ...

... with a large garden and a good sight to Petralia Sottana. Mr. Ferdinando Mazzarella and his wife are very friendly and they are always helpful. Around the area you have a lot opportunities for hiking and walking to nice summits up to 1850m. We can absolutely recommend Sicily, Petralia, this nice house "La Gisamìa" and the garden.
