Beautiful site for weddings and gatherings. Grounds were well maintained.
We had to make a late reservation for Cal Poly Graduation and were lucky to have found Portola Inn. It was only about 20 minutes from the Cal Poly campus.
Charming guest suite amongst beautiful grounds and orchards
We enjoyed our stay at the Portola Inn! The gardens and orchards around the guest houses are stunning and the views from the hilltop are breath taking. Tom and Peggy are kind and extremely helpful and provided lots of recommendations on places to eat and see. We will be back soon!
Peggy snd Tom were super nice and accommodating. The room was very large and comfortable, the hosts were just a text away when we needed something. The property was really pretty and close to downtown Paso Robles, Tin City and all the Wineries.
This is such a wonderful property! Beautiful on the inside and out. The grounds are peaceful and perfect for a relaxing stroll. It was amazingly quiet! The house was lovely in the inside. Lots of outlets, great wifi, HUGE bathroom. Lovely fireplace. Very cozy and I’m looking forward to returning. Thanks for a wonderful experience!
We were looking for a place to stay for Parent's Weekend at CalPoly and happened to find the Portola Inn. After reading all the 5 star reviews we decided to book. We were not disappointed'. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and so are the views. The room was spacious and comfortable. In addition to the queen bed there is a pullout couch bed. The bathroom was spacious as well. The owner, Tom, was extremely accommodating and friendly. I would highly recommend the Portola Inn.
We had a lovely stay on this gorgeous property. Its very peaceful, beautiful and charming. I really enjoyed walking the grounds and exploring the garden. The owners are really nice and I enjoyed chatting with them as well. I'd definitely recommend this place!
Our stay here was enjoyable. The grounds were beautiful and so peaceful. We felt safe leaving our belongings and surfboards in the car at night. It was nice to have a large bathroom to share with my husband so we weren’t tripping over each other.
I was extremely happy with everything!! It was a gorgeous property with lovely owners/ managers. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Peggy and given a key. She also gave us suggestions for dinner locations and a log for the fireplace. We went to one of her dinner suggestions which was Street Side Ale House in Atascadero. We liked it so much we ate there both nights!! Fantastic!!
The space was exactly as shown was very clean and well kept. Atascadero has a lot of little small shops and restaurants to go to; we did antiquing. There is a few antique shops as well as a pawnshop in town . There was a great coffee house as well called Bru. It was not far from downtown Atascadero or even Morro Bay. We spent half of the day in Atascadero and half of the day in Morro Bay. This location is perfect if you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway!!! Location is great!! Lots of area for a morning or daytime walk. At night we sat outside and looked up at the stars! :)
I greatly appreciated how seriously they took Covid! When we checked in Peggy greeted us wearing a mask and we were sure to wear our masks as well. She allowed us to check out the space while standing outside so everyone was properly socially distanced. While walking around the property we did not wear a mask since we were away from everyone but we did wear one in town. It was a concern of mine to travel during the pandemic but this location made it very comfortable for me. My boyfriend and I have talked about going back to this location since we liked it so much!!!
Thank you Tom and Peggy!!
Beautiful property! Very nice owners.
Property could be improved a little bit. Shower head needs to be changed. The mattress is not very comfortable. Kerrigan coffee maker needs to be updated.
We booked 2 nights at the Portola Inn to celebrate my wife’s birthday and only wished we could have stayed longer. The property itself is huge with a beautiful garden and trees all throughout. The cozy suite was perfect for my family of four( toddler and baby) since the pullout couch adds more space to sleep. The jet tub was great after a long day sightseeing animals at the local zoo and hanging out at the lovely lake park. Check in/check out was easy, Peggy was very kind and helpful during the process and Tom gave great recommendations for local restaurants which made it easy to decide where to eat. They also provided us with food to feed the goats next door which my son enjoyed very much. Thank you again for a relaxing weekend we will definitely be back!
The property is gorgeous with trees, plants and short trails for a peaceful and relaxing get away. Atascadero is 15 to 30 minutes away of the beaches, SLO and close to Paso Robles. My daughter loved walking the garden, orchard and getting on the swing under the tree. Recommended for children and adults. Super clean and safely tucked away during this pandemic. Tom is a wonderful host, he gave s great local recommendations and helped my 10-yea old pick tomatoes and peppers from the orchard. We are already planning our next weekend getaway next year!
This was a hidden gem! Cute little studio room with the most amazing jacuzzi tub. The bed was a little uncomfortable but nothing compared to your own bed, so I can't hold the against them. The only other thing we had issues with was trying to get the cable to work, so we just ended up watching movies out of the collection that is provided. The check in process and communication between owner and I was seamless and easy. He gave great recommendations of things to do and see. Definitely will go back one day! Thank you for your accommodation and hospitality.
Wow! What a great place to stay for the weekend. The owners were very helpful from the moment of booking all the way through the stay. The property was amazing and felt as if we were in your own little resort. Close to many stores and restaurants as well. Will definitely stay here again when in the area.
Wonderful stay in Atascadero! Got lucky and there was availability to stay in the bed-and-breakfast suite. A warm welcome (from a social distance as these times require), very helpful hosts who provided additional items needed, a beautiful property where are you feel you are away from it all. I imagine the events here are great as it is nicely laid out. Would definitely return.

About the host
Hosted by Tom and Peggy O'Malley
Tom and Peggy were both born in Atascadero and love to show off their home town. Tom was the town mayor and Peggy was a school teacher. They raised three children in Atascadero and now love having their grandchildren visit. They are both experts on local history and know what there is to do in the area for all ages. Tom grew up next door in a house he and his dad built. When not busy with community events or weddings at Portola Inn, you will find Tom in the garden and Peggy in the kitchen!
Why they chose this property
Just minutes from downtown but containing many years of history, Portola Inn offers classic comfort, serene surroundings and picturesque vistas. It's the perfect getaway from the hectic world and a great headquarters from which to explore the exciting venues of the Central California Coast.
What makes this property unique
Enjoy a peaceful hilltop with abundant wildlife. It is especially relaxing to watch the quail, deer, and squirrels. If you want to take a walk, sit in a private area, have a picnic there are plenty of options. Ask about our fire pit, picking produce from the garden, or picking fruit from the orchard. We love to share.
