About this property

Ashfield cottage in Crickhowell with views of Usk Valley, and Brecon Beacons.

ASHFIELD COTTAGE is a picturesque stone Victorian cottage, in a cul de sac, situated on the edge of Crickhowell, in the beautiful Usk Valley, with views of the Brecon Beacons. It has a pretty front garden gated from the road, plus a lockable garage with power points and an off road parking space for two cars. The centre of Crickhowell with it's interesting shops, restaurants and pubs is a five minute walk away. Deservedly Crickhowell was the winner of The Great British High Street Awards 2018 for the whole of the U.K.

If you are interested in Ashfield Cottage, I recommend you send through an enquiry for an accurate price, the VRBO calculations are not always accurate. Also, the VRBO system times out after 24 hours from making a formal reservation, so if wishing to clarify points about the property do send a message before making the formal reservation.

COVID ADJUSTMENTS: Cancellation - In the unfortunate circumstances a reservation cannot proceed, postponement or refund may be available. The VRBO details are not completely accurate so please request my Terms and Conditions for full and more flexible details.

The property will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitised between all guests.

Located in the historic market town of Crickhowell, Ashfield Cottage is well situated for the many annual events in the area. Crickhowell has become 'festival city' now holding the Walking Festival in February, The Green Man Festival in August and the Literary Festival in October. Nearby there is also the Hay Festival in late May/early June, the Brecon Jazz Festival in August and every September brings the now famous Abergavenny Food Festival. In July you can take in The Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells,

The cottage is our home, which we also let out rather than a property specifically set up as a Holiday Let, so if it seems a little personal and quirky we hope this will be part of the charm.
The cottage comprises: a large sitting/dining room with gas fired stove, smart television with incorporated DVD plus a stereo and i player/phone dock. Next door is a new well equipped kitchen with gas hob and double ovens. There are 3 bedrooms (one double and two double/twin) and a family bathroom with over bath shower. Downstairs there is shower room with lavatory plus a utility room with washing machine, Belfast sink, iron and board The sun room off the kitchen offers a cheerful second dining area for up to 8 people opening into the sunny back court yard. The whole house is decorated to a high standard. There is Unlimited Infinity Wi-Fi and we are lucky enough (for Wales!) to get a good mobile phone signal.

Ashfield cottage is heated throughout with gas fired central heating. The west facing front garden is particularly lovely on sunny evenings, when you can watch the sun set along the Usk Valley, while the courtyard outside the sun room catches the morning sun - lovely for al fresco breakfast! A welcome pack, linen and towels are included. While one well behaved dog is permissible by arrangement, the cottage is not really suitable for small children or infirm people - breakable items for the former and many steps for the latter. N.B. The garden is not fenced from the neighbours garden so pets can stray accross.

Notes and further details: The welcome pack contains basics such as milk, bread, eggs, sparkling water and a bottle of wine. General provisions (e.g. tea, coffee, jam and marmalade) and general cooking ingredients are constants in the food cupboards. However it is possible to supply more substantial provisions by arrangement.
We request no smoking anywhere in the house and reserve the right to charge for extra cleaning if smoking should take place.
There is a visitor centre in Crickhowell (visitcrickhowell.co.uk) which can provide details of local activities, events and facilities.

The minimum rental period tends to be 4 nights except in the summer when it is 7. Also there is a £400 returnable security deposit.

Fabulous cottage in excellent location

My family & I had 4 very enjoyable weeks staying in beautiful Ashfield Cottage. The location was perfect for us - close to family & easy walking distance into Crickhowell town centre. We had wonderful weather & enjoyed sitting in the beautiful garden enjoying the Spring sunshine. Would recommend Ashfield Cottage to anyone visiting that area of South Wales. Joanna is a gracious & wonderful host, very easy to communicate with & quick in her responses.

Wonderful Crickhowell!

Beautiful garden…Wonderful location, 2 minutes from the Main Street. Great for exploring Brecon Beacons. House decor was of an age gone by. Would have appreciated garden furniture. Patio at the back needed pots…was a bit austere. Welcome pack much appreciated! We had a great few days…thank you.

Comfortable, atmospheric cottage

We spent our Christmas in Joanna's house which was lovely and warm when we arrived. Very comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped indeed. Although we didn't use it because of the weather and it being December, the garden looks wonderful with a large patio to the front and back. Communication with Joanna was effortless and we would love to come back sometime. Kind regards, Igmar, Liza and Oona

Peaceful break away in a beautiful location

The cottage is really charming and we had a magical stay with our 3 children for a weeks walking and adventure sports. The cottage is very comfortable and basics were provided, the garden is beautiful with a small back yard also. The cottage itself is a couple of minutes from the village itself where you can get most things you need. It was such a joy to be surrounded by such beautiful countryside. Joanna our host was excellent with her communication. Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home, we hope to come again. X

Very central with good facilities

We were 5 adults staying: The location was particularly good as we had taken our parents all in late 80's with us. there is a steep slope of maybe 20 metres then flat 100metres to the shops. The document in the property covered pretty much everything and we had a contact number if needed. Good walking all around the area . A shop in Crickhowell had local walks on small leaflets. so no need to purchase a whole book. A very enjoyable holiday.

fall in Crickhowell

The location of the property is a short walk from the town center, which is a fantastic little view into the past, great little shops and a very busy place. The cottage is first class fully equipped and very well furnished,.The views from the front of the property are outstanding and the front garden is lovely just as in the photo, There is plenty of parking for 2 cars, and lots of places of interest within easy reach. The local pubs do great food and are well worth a visit especially the Bridge end.

I have been letting the house successfully through HomeAway - now VRBO since 2010, with many return visitors. It is my home in Crickhowell rather than a house set up to let so has many personal features which I hope others also enjoy.
