About this property

17 Century Farmhouse with HEATED pool, games room & aircon (EXCLUSIVE USE)

CASA LEANA is over 350 years old and brimming with gorgeous original features, from chunky beamed, wood ceilings and exposed stone walls to the traditional tiled kitchen. We have also lavished a whole lot of love on the interior and furnishings to transform the rambling, rustic farmhouse into a luxurious, stylish villa.

Tuscany is famous for its food and wine so cooking and dining at Casa Leana is very much a pleasure here, from using the superb local produce to rustle up in delicious family dishes in the fabulous farmhouse kitchen, to long leisurely mealtimes, both inside and out. All five bedrooms are simply stunning and conducive to a good night’s sleep, with wrought iron beds and lush linen, plus one of the double rooms really has the wow factor with a four poster bed and private balcony.

To soak up the Tuscany sunshine and gaze on the iconic scenery, the terraced garden at Casa Leana is sheer bliss. On the first terrace children can play on a lawn area while parents watch on from the paved dining patio with a pergola for shade, then on the second terrace there’s a small olive grove and a romantic bench for two, to admire the views in the shade of a gnarly oak.

A heated swimming pool on terrace three, safely fenced and sheltered by the landscaped borders, with loungers for grown ups, pool toys for the children, plus a dining table and barbecue in the shade of a pergola.

The fourth terrace is the vegetable garden which guests are welcome to raid and children will especially love plucking and popping in the sun ripened tomatoes and super sweet strawberries.

The fifth terrace is set up for outdoor fun with a sand pit, swings and a slide in a play area plus space for badminton, skittles, boules and Nerf gun battles. And for the less energetic, there are two hammocks overlooking the vineyard.

ACCOMMODATION OVERVIEW

Casa Leana was built way back in 1650 as a big rambling farmhouse, set out over three floors, with the main entrance up an external stone staircase to the first floor, which is the traditional way in Tuscany. Today the villa provides plenty of space for 10+ family and friends, plus two babies, with 5 bedrooms, 3 lounges, 3 bath/shower-rooms, a huge dining kitchen, a play room and games room. All 5 bedrooms have space for a cot and two travel cots are available.

The lower floor comprises the games room, library ‘snug’, wine cellar and one of the bedrooms. The large games room, with a beamed ceiling and funky pop artwork on the stone walls, has table tennis, table football, a pool table and a PS2 console with games. The cosy library has over 350 books on the shelves, a leather corner sofa to curl up in and a writing desk to set up a laptop and log into the Wi Fi.

The double bedroom, with a wrought iron bed, has an ensuite shower with a washbasin and WC. The vaulted wine cellar has a superb selection of wines from Tuscany and around the world that are available for guests to buy.

The first floor comprises the large kitchen dining room, a separate breakfast room, a king-size bedroom and the a family bathroom.

With home-cooking so central to Tuscany family life, the traditional farmhouse kitchen is the heart of the house, with a big open fireplace, a magnificent dining table for 10 (plus 2 high chairs are available) and beautiful tiled work surfaces. A large fridge freezer, drinks fridge and a microwave is in the separate pantry and a utility room has a washing machine, dishwasher, iron and ironing board plus hairdryer, torch and first aid kit. The kitchen opens onto a pretty, covered patio with a dining table that seats 10 and a barbecue.

A breakfast room doubles as a small lounge with a bistro table that seats 4, a chaise longue, log fire, chess and other board games. The bedroom on the first floor has a king-size wrought iron four poster bed and a balcony with seating for 6 and there is also a shower room with a washbasin, bidet and WC.

The top floor of Casa Leana comprises the main lounge, three bedrooms and the family bathroom. The lounge is very large and comfortable, with a big, squashy L-shaped sofa, a single sofa bed, coffee table, flat screen TV with Sky+ and Sky Sports, a DVD player with 600 DVD’s to choose from and Wi Fi. Two of the bedrooms have king size wrought iron beds and one of these has an additional single bed. The other bedroom has twin single wrought iron beds. The family bathroom has a bath, shower, washbasin, bidet and WC.

Casa Leana stands in approximately three quarters of an acre of terraced gardens with stunning views. The gardens include lawns and play areas, a heated swimming pool, outdoor dining and a vegetable patch with tomatoes, strawberries, courgettes, plums and apples for guests to pick.

Real Tuscan luxury
We had the holiday of a lifetime at the beautiful Casa Leana. The setting is typically Tuscan and the property itself is amazing. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Anghiari is the nearest town (10 min drive) and is unbelievably beautiful . It has restaurants, shops and an evening market on a Wednesday with live bands playing. Di & Leigh were fabulous hosts. They were on hand to offer valuable advice on everything from where to eat to the best places to shop ( including the best markets to visit). A beautiful breakfast hamper is provided for your first morning, but even better they can arrange do a small shop for you which we took full advantage of. Di selected lots of local delicacies including cheeses, hams, local bread & chutneys which allowed us to spend our first day at the villa without having to venture too far. We will definately return to Casa Leana. This is one holiday destination you won't want to miss

Gorgeous Farmhouse in beautiful Tuscan setting
A fantastic holiday, I would recommend to anyone. In fact I would like to go back as my stay of one week wasn't long enough. Di and Leigh provided exemplary customer service from my initial enquiry onwards. They even met us in the square in Anghiari to lead us to the house a couple of miles away. The house over three floors is full of character, tastefully decorated and very clean. For a party of several adults and children it was a very practical house (as long as you're okay with stairs) with three bathrooms a huge kitchen and rear terrace for al fresco dining. The games room was a big hit with the children and the extensive DVD collection in the living room a nice surprise. It is a lovely house to spend time in. However, even better is the pool in the terraced garden for its stunning views of the Tuscan countryside, very special. Anghiari and Sansepolcro were both lovely places to visit and Di and Leigh had some great recommendations for local restaurants and places to go generally. We did a day trip to Montepulciano and visited a local winery but spent the majority of our time at the pool as the weather was lovely. If we come again we'd like to visit all or some of Arezzo, Assisi, Sienna and Florence, pool time allowing.

Impeccably hosted trip in an impressive setting
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the owners, who gave a warm introduction to the property and surroundings. The facilities were well presented and seemed perfectly authentic. The local amenity reference material provided proved invaluable in getting the most out of our short stay and was presented with a personal touch. In fact, everything about Casa Leana spoke of the attention to detail of the hosts, their sunny disposition, and dedication to making clients holidays as good as they can possibly be. My sincere thanks to them for doing just that.

Great stay at Casa Leana!
I stayed at Casa Leana in mid September with my wife and some friends. We had such a fabulous time. The house is lovely and homely and has all the mod cons you could wish for including good wifi and DVD players in all the bedrooms but is also a very typical Tuscan farmhouse with beams, high ceilings and exposed walls. We spent a lot of time in the huge kitchen - we took it in turns to cook, one night the boys cooked and another night the girls cooked. It was great fun as the kitchen is large enough so you can all sit around chatting and cooking at the same time. We also had a couple of barbecue lunches and evening meals down at the pool which when lit is beautiful and has fabulous views in the day time and evening. We found it difficult actually to drag ourselves away from the house and beautiful gardens but we did manage to visit Florence and even had a day at the beach (Cessinatica I think) which was lovely. All in all we had a wonderfully relaxing time and the owners, Leigh and Di, were really helpful in giving advice about what to do etc. Although there were plenty of recommendations for days out at house together with detailed directions. Basically the owners have just about covered everything from lots of cookery books in the kitchen, hundreds of books in the library and there must have been over 500 DVDs for adults and kids alike. We spent a few evenings in the games room getting a bit competitive (!) and we even managed to get out on the mountain bikes to explore the beautiful surroundings.

Traditional Tuscan Adventure
We spent a delightful week here, just before Easter. This is a traditional rustic building, set in a small hamlet, overlooking a Tuscan valley and the hills beyond. The pictures show you the views and the countryside is lovely. We were a group of 13. The most they have had; but we were more than comfortable. We were 3 generations with Grandparents and 5 children. We were meeting up from England, Scotland and Dubai. The accommodation is set on 3 levels, as is the garden: so lots of steps; but the old folks managed fine. The setting is lovely and so are the owners – Lee and Di. They really do make sure that you have everything you need and are available or out of the way, as required. One of the reasons we chose this villa was that the owners are British: so there would be no communication problems. Before we arrived, Di sent numerous emails to made sure that we had everything organised and where to meet us. She also helped arrange a Police letter for a visa. She was like a mother hen. When we met Lee at Arezzo station, he was not fazed by the number of cases and dealt with everything. We made trips to Florence and the local towns; but spent most of the time in the garden, or the house and most evenings would have a mafia style dinner for 13, in the kitchen. There were bikes in the shed (at no extra charge) and there were enough for all the kids and a couple of adults to explore the countryside. The area and the roads are quiet. The local town of Anghliari is also delightful, with plenty of character and stunning views. The restaurant of Baldaccio’s is well worth a visit, very friendly and having the best pizza we tasted. Other trips to the local towns and wineries were also fun and the locals always friendly. We thought that the kids would get bored; but they didn't - there is a games room and a huge DVD collection besides. Great to spend some time with the family, in the Italian way. There are some minor things that one could moan about; but nothing worth noting and overall - look at the pictures and details and there will be no surprises. We loved it here and our daughter has the view from the garden as her screen saver. We would love to come again. Neil & Agatha and The Greater Brown Family.

Fabulous!
Beautiful traditionalTuscan house, with every modern convenience. The garden and heated pool, with amazing views are maintained every day before you are even awake by the hosts Di and Leigh who regularly go the extra mile for you, nothing is too much trouble. They have thought of everything... Wine cellar, games room, library, cycles ... The list is endless. A fabulous place, highly recommended.

A wonderful peaceful relaxing holiday!
A beautiful well equipped house in a peaceful location with all the home comforts you need for a stress free holiday. The scenery is stunning and we enjoyed many hours in the garden and pool. There was no need to venture much further for a relaxing holiday in the sun! Leigh and Di were extremely welcoming and helpful and we all enjoyed our stay very much.

Fantastic Holiday Villa
What can I say about Casa Leana and Tuscany? Well it was just one of the best holidays ever! Starting with the friendly service from Di and Leigh who both met us in Anghiari and took us to the villa so that we didn't get lost. What a great couple who obviously take great pride in looking after their guests - from the breakfast hamper to all the useful information that they provide about the area. Great parking tips! The villa itself was just perfect to house our family of 5 plus our chocolate labrador - loads of space for the kids to loose themselves in. They couldn't decide whether to swim in the pool (which was amazing in October), have a table tennis or pool tournament or watch one of the many DVD's they hadn't seen. On top of that they then started a family chess tournament having never played it before! I, of course, lost that! The villa has lots of touches and I felt completely at home as soon as I stepped through the front door! Fantastic kitchen, extremely comfortable beds and a wine selection to die for! The garden was spectacular and we changed our morning cup of tea spot each day to appreciate it all. The location was ideal and we managed to visit Florence and Siena both of which I'd strongly recommend. Breathtaking! Anghiari itself is lovely and has pizza/pasta restaurants and an ice-cream cafe that I will really miss. I can't praise this package enough and I will definitely be telling all my friends it's worth a visit. Look forward to returning soon!

Best holiday ever!
Several reasons why this was literally the best holiday ever. * The most fantastic friendly service from the owners Di and Leigh who couldn't do enough for us * The most stunning location - the sort that every time you look up from your book by the pool you need to pinch yourself * A house full of character and charm * A fully stocked wine cellar of hand picked wines by Leigh who REALLY knows his wines * The option to have a the lovely next door neighbour pop round and cook you a fantastic meal * A truly breathtakingly beautiful hilltop village down the road (Anghiari). * And I got proposed to by the pool over looking some of the most beautiful views I have seen. Now you can't beat that! Lovely couple and lovely place

We Will Be Going Back!
We regularly rent properties in France and the UK and occasionally in Spain so we decided on a change and to try Italy – we - being two couples and two dogs. Ticking all the boxes was Casa Leana, so we made contact with Di and after a couple of emails booked the property, payment was simple and before setting off we asked a few more questions by email and we also received simple to follow travel details (which were very necessary). We also gave Di a shopping list, which she sorted out for us. Meeting Di and Leigh was straightforward and in a few minutes we were at the house. They ran through a few things with us, although everything is detailed within a folder. They also kindly gave us details for the vet within Anghiari including an emergency number. The shopping was all put away, in the fridge where necessary. The house has been beautifully restored and fitted-out, we usually come up with something missing but not this time. Di and Leigh come by early in the morning, primarily to tend to the pool and also gardening – only because our dogs needed to go outside early, did I know they were there. They kindly left us some Fresh Tomatoes and Figs both were gorgeous! They are great hosts – there if you need them for help or recommendations and not if you don’t. We used the games room a couple of times – had great fun and it dragged the competitive nature out in all of us!! We also used the bikes a couple of times and they are all in great condition. Locally, we were easily able to walk the dogs, the countryside is fantastic, and I took many photographs. Generally, we ate in Anghiari, the choice is extensive, the quality was excellent and the service without exception – friendly and first class – we also ate in Cortina, which was equally as good. We did venture into the pool but being it was September – it was slightly cool!!! Speaking to Leigh, they are having a pool heater installed this winter; this will make a big difference and another box ticked! We will be going back!

About the host

Hosted by Casa Leana (Diana Flanagan and Leigh Wright)

Host profile image
Having both worked for the John Lewis Partnership for many years we decided to leave the UK ten years ago to manage Casa Leana and look after our guests full time.

We flit from Casa Leana and the UK during the winter months but throughout the rest of the year we stay near our house in Tuscany, enabling us to welcome our guests and be on hand if necessary.

We are both quite active and enjoy cycling, golf, tennis and gardening as well as exploring the local area on our Vespas. Leigh also plays football for Anghiari.

Having said all that we also enjoy relaxing with friends, going out for meals and watching films or sport as well as slowly learning Italian.

We are passionate about Tuscany and our gorgeous house and want to make your holiday one which you will remember forever.

Having re-developed three houses back in England from 2004 to 2008 we decided to turn our attention overseas.

Casa Leana dates back to 1650 and we spent 2008 refurbishing it which we enjoyed tremendously. Our enthusiasm to improve our house and gardens continues on an almost daily basis.

We were new to this business and one of our biggest pleasures over the years has been meeting new people from all around the world, many of whom have returned year after year becoming good friends.

Why they chose this property

Casa Leana is located in unspoilt Tuscany countryside of the Arezzo Province, not very far from the border with Umbria. The nearest village to Casa Leana is medieval Anghiari (3 miles) which is hailed as one of ‘the most beautiful villages in Italy’, with spectacular views over the Tiber Valley. Enclosed within ancient walls, the maze of narrow streets are a delight to stroll around, browsing antique shops, stopping for cappuccinos and gelati in the cafes and choosing one of the many trattorias to enjoy traditional Tuscan cuisine. Anghiari also has a couple of small supermarkets for essentials and groceries, plus there are bigger supermarkets and many more shops in Arezzo and Citta di Castello (20 mins).

One of the greatest pleasures in Tuscany is exploring the countryside on bikes and nine are available for guests to borrow, free of charge, at Casa Leana. There are 6 adult bikes, sized from small to large, and 3 children’s bikes including one with stabilisers and one with a child seat. Helmets and padlocks are also provided. Within 3 miles of the villa, families can pootle through vineyards and fields of sunflowers, stop for a break in parks with play area and visit a local petting farm. Children can also swap pedal power for horsepower at a nearby riding stables (7 miles).

Besides just chilling out at Casa Leana, families can pack a picnic for a day on the sandy shores of Lake Trasimeno (1 hr 15) to paddle in the calm, fresh water or hire a pedalo. There are three beaches to discover close to the historic walled town of Castiglione del Lago and many flock here simply to indulge in long leisurely lunches in fine lakeside restaurants.

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with Casa Leana because of the fabulous views and its proximity to the gorgeous town of Anghiari and the other beautiful hilltop villages that are just a stones throw away. We also love the family run restaurants and bars close by that are so typical of Tuscany with fabulous food for all tastes and budgets!
