My husband and I have been renting vacation homes in Maine off and on for 30 years. This may be the best place ever for us! The property is clean and comfortable with a well stocked kitchen and nice local art throughout! Steve and Lisa welcomed us with local coffee, trail mix, and jam. Nice touches!
The house is secluded and views of the water and local wildlife are beautiful. As others have suggested, you can spend a lot of time relaxing in these surroundings! The house is .4 miles from a main road down a packed gravel/dirt one which was great for short dog walks. Blue Hill is only 8 miles away for supplies, restaurants and shopping. We also visited several Blue Hill Heritage Trust trails at Steve’s suggestion.
If you are looking for beauty, peace and quiet down east, I would highly recommend!
Peaceful, secluded, comfortable retreat by the water
Stunning views! Comfortable and well loved cabin. All cooking equipment and supplies provided. Washer and dryer were very helpful. We walked down the path to the beach at least once a day! Lots of interesting books and board games. Peaceful and quiet. We loved watching the birds outside on the deck every morning and the chipmunks. Plenty of room for a family, very comfortable couches and lighting in living room perfect to tuck into a book or just relax. The night sky was breathtaking and the fire pit ideal for roasting s'mores. A slice of heaven!
We had a lovely time staying here. The location exceeded our expectations, including the drive through the meadows and the woods. The house is comfy and well furnished, and the preparations are thoughtful and many (paper goods, towels, spices). The sizeable deck is a pleasure and we spent much time there sitting and reading and dining. As an enthusiastic backyard birder, I was delighted by the variety of company drawn to the feeders on the deck.
And then there is the daily evening show as the sun sets, the lights change on and over the Bagaduce River. On beyond lovely.
We were blown away with the views and the location right from the start. The house was very relaxing and comfortable. Not having a TV in the house was great to have my kids focus more on family time. We found a hidden gem only a few minutes from the house for a great lunch stop and it was called. Crazy Otto’s street food… I highly recommend. It was a very hot week, so I’m glad that I brought my easy up to have on the deck for shade during the hot times of the day and the couple short rain showers that we had. overall, I would give this place a 10 out of 10 for vacation spots with the family
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was great with a nice view from the deck and eating area. Well stocked kitchen. It was a great location - very private. The view was awesome. A lot to do in the area. The owner was great to work with and very responsive. We enjoyed the campfire as well. We plan on staying again.
We loved celebrating our 21st Anniversary at Oak Ledge. It is a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing place with special touches. Our stay fed our souls and we made wonderful memories. We look forward to coming back next year. Will definitely be recommending it to family and friends!
Great time away despite the overcast/rainy weather. Maine /Acadia/Blue Hill just beautiful home away from home destinations! Our little family (dogs included) had a nice vacation.
I will start by saying all the reviews are true. This place is amazing! 10 days prior to our arrival my wife had a serious accident that had our visit in doubt. We were hopeful the setting would be good for her recovery . It was perfect. The location is just beautiful. Peaceful, private, comfortable...I could go on but I think you get the idea. We really enjoyed bird watching, reading, cooking lunch and dinners on the BBQ and watching the sunsets while having an evening cocktail. Thank you Steve and Lisa for letting us stay at your house and for the excellent communication throughout our 4 wk stay. Eric & Liz
Everything was perfect for our needs, and the extras much appreciated. VRBO description was completely accurate. We will savor the peace, quiet and wonderful views for the coming year and hope to be back again. Hosts fully responsive in a timely way.
It was everything we had hoped for and more.
The cabin is so cozy, has everything you need and extra supplies. A library of books and magazines was an unexpected bonus on our rainy days. Location is perfect, so quiet, the grounds are beautiful and you can walk right to the water for low tide critter searching. House and water have amazing sunset views. Beds are super comfy and all rooms have water views. 2 huge decks. So much wild life. Our family of four did some day trips around the area, but our favorite thing of the trip was the cabin and grounds.
The directions were impeccable but we still thought we were lost. We arrived at night so we couldn’t see the beauty until the morning. But we walked into some lovely Maine snacks and that was so nice.
The house was decorated very classy and it was clean. It was exactly as described.
We saw so many birds, chipmunks, hummingbirds and we walked down to the ocean and saw crabs and horseshoe crabs.
If you opened the windows, you were surrounded by amazing nature sounds. Our only regret was we didn’t get to enjoy it enough and should have booked more days.
Thank you for the hospitality and amazing house.
This home is a perfect rural Maine retreat - the view and the grounds are stunning and the home is cozy and feels like staying with family. So many thoughtful touches throughout. Steve was responsive and helpful and everything was just as described. I only wish we could have stayed longer!
Wonderful rental and property an hour away from Acadia National Park. Pet friendly. Non-stop bird action at the feeders. Comfy beds and couches. Almost didn’t leave the house (but we did). Next time, we’ll stay longer.
Easily the best views on the Blue Hill Peninsula and a wonderful quite serene home to enjoy it
Steve and Lisa’s place is one of the best vacation rentals we’ve ever stayed at. The views of the Bagaduce river can’t be beat and the house sits at the back of a quiet property surrounded by woods. Even though it feels like you’re in the middle of remote Maine, you’re actually smack dab in the middle of food and hiking Maine paradise. Just minutes down the road is Tinderhearth bakery, which is one of - if not the best - bakery in Maine. Your even closer to Bagaduce Lunch, an award winning seafood shack known for their fried clams. And you’re an easy 15 minute drive to Blue Hill that includes some the best options to buy seafood, wine, and tons of other local Maine food. Be sure to visit the Blue Hill wine shop and co-op. For hiking, the hike up Blue Hill will give you the most stunning views of Mount Desert Island and Blue Hill Bay. All around the Peninsula includes trails maintained by the Blue Hill Heritage Trust. Great trails with spectualr views all within an easy drive from Oak Ledge. But even if you never left the property, you’d have one of the best views in Maine. The house is well stocked and very comfortable so it makes it hard to want to leave!
My wife and I stayed at Oak Ledge for 4 nights. The property is simply wonderful. A waterfront property with a sweet house with a great view that is remote (very rural and peaceful) but not TOO far from larger grocery stores, restaurants etc... The house has every amenity you need or want and is a very easy place to relax in. We would absolutely stay at this property again.
Steve and Lisa are the best possible hosts- friendly, communicative, and always ready to be helpful if needed.
The place is a dream for someone that loves a magnificent view.
The views from both upstairs and downstairs are of the Bagaduce River which actually looks like a gorgeous bay. The sunsets are miraculous.
The house is super comfy and has everything that one could possibly need unless one can't live without a TV haha! But there is decent internet so streaming works well most of the time. But I can't imagine lovelier nature sounds and sights and sunsets that make it a most peaceful stay.
We had a great vacation in this cozy beautifully decorated secluded property. The views are incredible....you can see the water from living, dinning, bedrooms and balcony. The nature and peace and water and woods were just what we were looking for. We saw birds on the bird feeder and we got some good pictures of a hummingbird. This place is conveniently located with 1 hour drive from Bar Harbor / Acadia National Park. Nearest supermarket in Blue Hill is not far (around 10 miles) and has everything you would need. This is such a quaint place, giving us a place to escape to and help enjoy our vacation to the fullest.
