Situated in the centre of the Charente you will be with in easy reach of all the area has to offer.
The region has something for everyone. Visits and tastings are available at the Cognac distilleries – and don’t forget to try the local specialty of Pineau.
There are a wide variety of restaurants for all budgets, including specialist fish restaurants.
For historians the Charente has a rich Gallo-Roman heritage, with numerous churches and architectural sites to visit. Not least the underground church at Aubeterre, and the ramparts of Angouleme.
For those looking for walking and cycling there are signposted routes to follow.
For the more energetic there 2 mountain bike centres with graded routes from easy to difficult, about half an hour away, as are the local canoeing centres.
Keep the kids amused with a trip to the beaches at the local lakes (half an hour away) or a day out at the coastal resorts of Royan or La Rochelle (only a couple of hours away).
Futuroscope is about an hour away, with the Valley of the monkeys a little nearer.

We had a lovely, peaceful stay at the gite. Chris and Clare greeted us on arrival, after providing very clear instructions for finding it without Sat Nav, and left us a very nice bottle of wine and some delicious cakes. The gite is exactly as described and lovely and clean. It is comfortably furnished with more than enough crockery, cutlery, glasses and pots and pans in excellent condition(they aren't always!) The weather was so warm we ate outside every evening overlooking the field of sunflowers opposite. Even though there is a country lane outside the property there is very little traffic and we really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Overall this is a lovely gite and ideally located to visit the major cities in the area.

Location très agréable

Les propriétaires, Clare et Chris, nous ont très bien accueilli. Ils sont très souriants, attachants et très arrangeants. Ils nous ont bien conseillé pour trouver des endroits où se baigner et visiter. La maison est très agréable, il y a tout ce sont on a besoin, même pour les bébés. Merci à Clare et Chris pour votre accueil chaleureux. Nous avons passé de très bonnes vacances. A bientôt !

Séjour reposant au Vert

Cette maison parfaitement rénovée avec sa cour et sa terrasse sans vis à vis dans un hameau très calme est idéal pour se reposer en famille ou entre amis. La Rochefoucauld et Angoulême ne sont pas très loin pour les reconnexions à des séquences + animées si besoin pendant le séjour, nous avons alterné pour notre part aussi avec des balades à pied au départ de la maison car il y a quelques chemins très agréables autour. Chris et Clare ont été très disponibles, merci à eux.

Nous tenons à remercier Clare et Chris pour leur accueil chaleureux, ainsi que pour les délicates attentions à notre arrivée. Ils ont su créer une maison familiale où l'on se sent tout de suite comme chez soi. Elle très agréable et bien équipée, avec une grande cour fleurie, où nous avons pu profiter du calme de la campagne. Nous avons découvert une belle région, et nous reviendrons avec plaisir.

A very well equipped gite

Very roomy, good quality kitchen utensils and appliances, peaceful and quiet. The view was limited whilst we were there, July, by the height of the crops {maize] across the road, but that will change. Very nice owners, generous welcome pack, A very enjoyable week.

Clean, inviting, well-decorated and stocked apartment.

We enjoyed our time near Coulgens. The gite is very clean and obviously stocked with items purchased specifically for its inhabitants. The plates, glasses, silverware, etc. are new and they match! To a person like me, that matters. One has no feeling that you're using the "cast offs" of someone's life. The kitchen has everything one can want. It was pleasant to cook in such a well-equipped space. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom is beautiful and I appreciated having two sinks. The garden area is also well-equipped for all one's needs. Clare and Chris were helpful with any information we needed. Having a large LeClerc shopping center in the area was a plus. We can recommend the mid-day "plat du jour" for relatively inexpensive eating that is tasty. If using a GPS that doesn't recognize Coulgens with the address, enter the town name St. Angeau, which will give you directions to the neighbors near.

Un séjour exceptionnel. Un énorme merci particulièrement à Clare et Chris deux hôtes formidables qui ont su donner du cachet et du charme à leur gîte. La petite maison est très agréable et vraiment confortable !! Le coin est très joli, propice aux balades à la détente et au calme. Nous avons tellement aimé notre séjour que nous n'avons pas attendu la fin pour réserver de nouveau !!!! 😊 😊 See you soon !!
