About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Perfect for a family trip

This was the perfect place for a family reunion vaction with multiple generations staying under one roof and a fully equipped kitchen that had everything we needed to cook meals. The location inside the park was probably the best feature as it massively cut down on driving time.

House is a wow

We loved the house. Grand and adorable at the same time with so much attention to detail. The 3 master bedrooms were great. Only complaint was grossly inadequate number of towels for a group our size and missing standard amenities- no paper towels, enough detergent to do first load of wash, etc.

Beautiful cabin in a perfect location

We thoroughly enjoyed our multigenerational family stay. The property manager was responsive, the lovely "cabin" was well-appointed, clean, comfortable, and as described. We loved the location - near Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove, and swimming. We stocked the house by grocery shopping in Oakhurst in advance of our arrival.

Great reunion with friends

The property was just as described, perfect for our group. We had Chef Bill (recommended by The Redwoods staff) prepare dinner for us one night and he was a delight. My only criticism would be that the linens and towels were not up to the standard of such a luxurious lodging. The towels were skimpy in texture and limited in number.

Spectacular home!

This house was just perfect for our 50th-anniversary celebration with some of our family. It was HUGE with a lovely big, well-stocked kitchen. We canceled our restaurant reservation for the anniversary because cooking at "home" was so delightful and relaxed. The grill and table on the front porch were a great place to gather. The beds were very comfortable and the washer/dryer was nice to have. The only warning I would give is that there was no ice and no ice cube trays, so we were unable to make ice and had to go out to buy it by the bag, small complaint for such a lovely house!

Family trip to Yosemite

We absolutely loved this cabin! The craftsmanship and attention to detail is beyond compare. The location is perfect being inside the park gate. The immediate surrounding area provides plenty to do for a day relaxing close to “home” without taking the drive into the Yosemite valley.

Perfect Family Weekend

Our family was gathering from across the country to celebrate my Dad’s 80th birthday. The cabin was absolutely perfect. Plenty of room to cook together, play games and just enjoy each other’s company. It’s even nicer and roomier than it looks on line. Numerous times throughout the weekend my dad would say this is the best present ever! The whole family would highly recommend it!

Luxurious Wooden Cabin!

El Capitan is the best cabin to stay in at Yosemite. Attention to detail anywhere you find yourself in and out of the cabin. More space than you can possibly use! A/C is great for the summer and kitchen is up to date! And online listing with pictures is 100% true!

Spectacular

This stay in Wanoma is truly an AMAZING log cabin!! The house was exceptionally clean, well maintained, beautiful, and very very comfortable for our group. There is an upper loft with a pull out couch that is perfect for little ones. The front BBQ with porch was perfect for evenings on the deck. We really enjoyed the location to swim in the Merced River, Swinging Bridge and a 45 minute drive to Yosemite Valley. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it highly!

Beautiful Cabin Home

Our family(6 adults, 7 children) truly enjoyed our time in this beautiful mountain home. In fact, our grandkids asked to "have a day off" to stay and play at the house! The home is spacious with beautiful furnishings. We would love to stay here again and highly recommend this home.

Wonderful big family trip on the weekend of May 10th, 2019

This home was unbelievable. The home in itself was an event, all good. The home was once written up in a magazine, I believe called Log Home. We could see why. It was beautiful, cleaver, and classy. It was clear that every square inch of that house was built with great thought and an excellent team of architects and builders. It sleeps 14 and our 14 slept comfortably. Who wouldn't? Each bedroom door was individually carved out with a forest scene or animal, the headboards were unique and unique carvings were throughout the living and dining area. My favorite was a little family of racoons carved at the end of one of the giant logs. Of course the soaring eagle in the living area way above was spectacular. We just happened on this place when looking for cabin that could sleep 14. We had never been there or knew of anyone who had. The kitchen was designed for big groups. We brought an extra coffee maker knowing one would not do with 9 adults. It was a bit pricey but now I see why. It was worth every penny and a perfect setting for our family gathering. Parking was also plentiful. It also was only 25minutes to Yosemite Valley floor where we spent the day. Some great memories were made and the house was a big part of that.

Royal Wedding

We had the most wonderful time at the El Capitan! My family and friends came from all over California and stayed in cabins for our wedding! We were lucky enough to stay at the El Capitan and it felt so at home. I felt like a princess. Every detail of decor was just so beautiful and appreciated! We heald our rehearsal dinner there with close family and friends and it was so spacious! We plan to come back for the holidays! Thank you for making our wedding weekend so much more delightful
