Lovely cottage with an amazing view

We had a wonderful stay in this charming cottage. Although small, it had all the amenities we needed to cook dinner, enjoy beautiful views, and also walk along beautiful shoreline. It's also in a great location, an easy walk into Rockport. Nancy was a great host, and can't say enough good things about our stay.

Could have stayed all summer!

Nancy was just wonderful! From the first communication prior to check-in, and throughout the stay. She made us (me and the pooch) welcome and feel at home. The cottage was cozy and comfortable. Felt like I stepped back in time. The property and location are just beautiful. So many places to take a walk in either direction. Close to town and to beaches. Inviting Adirondack chairs just outside the cottage that I spend the most time in, just reading and watching the sunset. I was hoping to come back in August, but it's all booked up:( Plan to come back next year. For a longer length of time. Family and pooch friendly . The residents in neighboring properties are all very nice as well. Just a nice relaxing chill get-a-way. Highly recommend it!

Rest and Relax!

This cozy cottage was a perfect place for rest, enjoying beaches and walks and time at the shore in Rockport / Gloucester. Nancy's a responsive and helpful host. The location / neighborhood is lovely and an easy scenic walk to downtown or a short drive to antique stores, neighboring towns, beaches or hiking. Definitely recommended and a "repeat" for us!

A desirable upgrade

Prior to arrival, Nancy informed us that our house would be unavailable due to an unforeseen problem. She offered us an upgraded rental next door which proved to be very comfortable- two bedrooms each with its own bathroom. The ocean view from the rental was suburb and nearby restaurants. etc. were easily accessible via a walking path along the ocean front.

Pefect spot in Rockport

Wonderful spot across from the ocean. This quaint 2-bedroom cottage is on a quiet street a 5-minute drive from downtown, but quiet and removed from the tourist scene. Beautiful coastal path just up the street, but beautiful strolls in all directions. The front lawn is the perfect place for reading or napping. One of the very few places with ocean views that allows well-behaved dogs. Our pup gives it 5 stars also! Nancy was the perfect host!

Beautiful place to stay in Rockport, MA

Another wonderful summer trip to Rockport, MA and stay at The Seaward, a trip I have been making for over 30 years. Nancy's inn is the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway, located on the quiet side of Rockport situated along the Atlantic coast and surrounded by beautiful sea side homes. There is a wonderful view of the ocean from most of the rooms at the inn and from property on both sides of the inn. The town of Rockport is a nice walk away with portions along a coastal path and through "the headlands" where you find the best view of the Rockport harbor and Bearskin Neck. Nancy is a wonderful host and inn-keeper, a passion past down from her parents who founded the Inn back in the late 1940's. Although a lot has changed with the inn over the years, the consistent hospitality, clean rooms and peaceful surroundings remain unchanged. Nancy has just the right touch between making sure you have what you need but creating space to make you feel as if you are in your own home. This is the place to stay in Rockport...

A wonderful stay at Spruce cottage!

We have truly loved coming to the Seaward for many, many years and consider it our home away from home. Our most recent stay at Spruce cottage was no exception. Following the hustle and bustle of our daughter's wedding we were in need of a little "rand r", and a week at the Seaward fit the bill. The ocean view from the front lawn was amazing, the cottage was extremely comfortable and well equipped to meet all of our needs. As usual, Nancy welcomed us back and took great care of us!

perfect getaway

Perfect location and accommodations for our vacation. Could hear the ocean from my bed at high tide. A bike ride from beaches and Bearskin Neck. The borrowed beach pass and air conditioning (a necessity that week!) were a bonus! Nancy was very accommodating and took great care of us.

Good thing in a small package!

Spruce Cottage was not tiny, but small, quaint and fit the bill for the three ladies (and pooch) who made a recent week's stay here. It made a perfect base for roaming through Rockport. We loved the ocean view and especially the sunrises from the front yard - even the street was wonderful for just a quick and easy walk along this part of the Atlantic coast. Nancy was fabulous for taking care of our needs - what we mostly missed was not seeing more of Little Dipper, the canine lady of the property! The reliable, working fireplace topped it all off. It was sad to come to the last day!

About the host

Hosted by Nancy Cameron-Gilsey

Host profile image
I'm a licences independent clinical social worker. In 2003, I took a respite from working with troubled children and families. With a leap of faith and a sizable mortgage, I took over my families Inn business. Until the main inn and restaurant sold in Dec. 2013, I ran this 24 unit bed and breakfast, hosting weddings/events and, as some of you may remember, our Sunday Morning Live Brunches.
Since the sale I have refurbishing rooms in the building known as GullsNest for weekly rentals.
I have a husband, Peter, two grown children (Kai and Maya), and Little Dipper, my canine side kick.

Why they chose this property

I purchased the property from my sisters after my parents passed away (2003 – 2013). They started the Seaward Inn in 1945 when it was only considered a cottage. They built and added until it became a 36 unit, highly acclaimed resort.
Although sad to sell “the heart” of Seaward Inn (my childhood home), a new beginning, The Seaward, has emerged.
"Drop a pebble in the water:
Just a splash, and it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples
circling on and on and on,
Spreading, spreading from the center
flowing out to the sea.
And there is no way of telling
where the end is going to be".
By James W. Foley

What makes this property unique

Both young and older guests love the peace, solitude and high standard of cleanliness (not to mention the ocean views) that is The Seaward.
