Right on the water, amazing views, and loads of privacy

My wife and I make a trip up to Maine every fall and I can state this property was one of the nicest we've ever stayed at. First the view: The cottage has an amazing view of the lake, sitting at the kitchen table there is a huge window and it feels like you are right on the water. The road that goes down to the cottage goes over a hill that has an absolutely stunning view of the entire lake and the mountains in the distance. The privacy at the cottage was great. The road the cottage was off of was a private road with a gate at the top which meant there was no traffic on the road near us, we couldn't hear any traffic from any other roads as well. It looked like there were only three or four camps on this section of the pond and they were all spaced very very far apart which meant we had complete privacy at the camp. The cottage itself was very comfortable, and cozy, but with a very nice and updated feeling kitchen which was great for cooking in. The stove / oven were on the smaller side but the sink, fridge, and dishwasher were all wonderful. Plus there was a crock pot and an electric roasting pan available so the stove being on the smaller side didn't hinder us at all. We stayed here in October and it was getting a bit chilly but we were able to fire up the wood stove and were able to stay nice and toasty from just that, the cottage seemed insulated enough that we didn't need to turn the actual heat on. Overall we had a great time and I would highly recommend it.

Perfect family getaway

The house was perfectly sized for my family of four plus some cousins to come and go. We brought our dog who had the time of his life. I couldn’t tell from the pictures how close the house is to the water. It’s right out the back door. We had 4 boats to head out into the lake any time. There are only 4 houses on the pond so it was incredibly private. We had 2 special needs cousins come visit and it was great to just put on life vests and let them play. We didn’t have to worry about anyone hearing our kids. It was fantastic. The stream to Long pond was about a 2 mile each way kayak. The wildlife were beautiful. I am a birder and the birds were great. We could sleep with the windows open to get a cross breeze. Again, the privacy was amazing. One of the kids’ favorite vacation. Thank you, Roger and Elaine!

Fantastic Maine Cottage for a Family Stay

Ingham Pond is truly a magical location. The cottage is just as described with everything you need in tip-top shape. Kitchen is one of the best equipped we've seen in a similar property. There is a great grill to use and you are right on this quiet pond where the loudest noise you are likely to hear are the Loons calling. Roger is a great host and he is nearby if you need anything. Would definitely plan to return and have already recommended it to friends.

Summer vacation

We could not of asked for anything better. My children loved the water, boats and exploring the areas. My son adopted and took care of a salamander, was sad to release him when we left. My middle son enjoyed using the loon call and called the lake loons his friends. My 2 year old daughter learned how to cast a rod. Everyone that fished caught one. It was peaceful, I needed this, my family needed this. Thank you Roger & Elaine

This cottage was PERFECT!

This cottage was PERFECT!!! This place checked all the boxes for us: Peaceful, private, gorgeous waterfront, rustic feel with modern amenities, gigantic windows, and a large screened in porch. As soon as you enter the gate to the property, the view is PRICELESS. We made it a point to go out every day just to see that view. The pond had a loon family with a little baby and they would come directly over to the dock. This cottage had everything you needed even a salad spinner. Roger was an excellent host and even called us a few days before we arrived to touch base. Roger and Elaine have thought of everything to make this place special. Truly one of a kind. Paradise

This property has been described as a hidden gem and we would totally agree with that assessment. It is a spectacular property actually. Very private cottage right on the water, located on a very quiet, pristine pond, which connects to Long Pond by way of a channel, with many beaver homes(dams) along the way. It’s a really nice paddle or boat ride. Don’t pass up this one. You won’t find another like it and will be blown away with the amazing view just entering the property.

Quiet Paradise

This was a dream cottage for our family because we value privacy and a quiet place to relax with our two dogs. As you enter the property, you see amazing views of the valley – it’s like entering the gates of heaven! The cottage was exceptionally clean, and very cozy, with a beautiful view of the water only ten feet away! The lovely, well-appointed kitchen also has a great view of the water. Best of all was having a woodstove for those chilly, rainy days in the fall. There are miles of snowmobile trails for hiking, running, or walking our dogs, which made their adjustment to a new place so easy because they were so tired! Another highlight for nature-lovers is the stream that connects Ingham Pond with Long Pond. It provided a wonderful place to paddle, especially at dusk, when all the beavers are active. The Ingham Pond Loons had left before we arrived, but we were still able to see a couple up in Long Pond. Thank you, Roger and Elaine, for sharing your wonderful cottage and acres of beautiful land! We look forward to returning next year. Chris and Jeff Weatherhead

Amazing cabin getaway, right on the water!

We had a fantastic time at at Roger and Elaine's listing! They were so kind to be so lenient about when we arrived/departed and checking in was super simple. We arrived with a beautiful wood stove fire burning and relaxing music playing over head. We were able to pull our boat right up to the dock which led to great fishing during our whole stay! The cabin was charming and countless spots to hang out and relax. Easy parking for vehicles and our boat trailer. Coming down the hill to the driveway was one of my favorite parts overlooking the whole lake! Thanks so much we had an amazing stay and hope to be back very soon!

Exceptional Home and Beauty

This house is out of a fantasy. It’s so beautiful and has everything you could possibly ever need, every detail of cooking necessities covered, comfort was considered in every space, the natural sunlight and water landscape out the gorgeous window was amazing to wake up to and go to sleep to, the sound of loons at night, THE STARS!! our stay even included a chuck it for the dog! Roger and Elaine were very accommodating, responsive, and kind throughout our stay. They left no detail out and were very inviting for us to use everything the home and space offered. The fire pit was amazing, the surroundings are incredibly beautiful, and the property is completely private. Kayaks, canoes, a peddle boat, and hiking trails were plentiful and amazing. Had there been a small town, a few restaurants or something closer for the kids to do, they would have gotten a little more out of it, but the adults did just fine! And we took day trips to get closer to what the kids wanted. Overall, if you are able, give yourself this amazing gift, you will be so glad you did!

Spectacular and peaceful

Roger and Elaine were terrific hosts, providing prompt responses throughout our stay. We arrived in the evening to a beautiful lit cottage with a roaring fire in the wood stove and soothing music, exactly what we needed after a stress day at work. We spent a great couple of days at the cottage, kayaking everyday in the peaceful waters, and walking on the nearby trails. Location and amenities were prefect, and cottage very comfortable. We recommend it for anyone needing a quiet retreat!

About the host

Hosted by Roger & Elaine Karabin

Host profile image
I grew up coming to this area for vacations. My father and uncle bought the old Ingham Farm in 1953 which was about a mile from the Cottage. Every summer vacation and long weekends we traveled up from Connecticut to be here. My wife and I grew up in Plainville, CT. We married in September, l981. Having an appreciation for preserving old things we purchased a 1780 Cape in Plymouth, Ct that needed much restoration and tender loving care. The labor of love began and continued in Maine with the purchase of the Cottage. 'Work details' with friends and family were ongoing through holiday weekends and vacation time. Everyone contributed their talents combining outings and pleasure with everything we experienced. The camaraderie of our friends and family runs deep in the fabric of the Maine experience and what made the Cottage such a special place. We began renting the Cottage in 1994 during the months of July and August. Many families return each year making their own special memories. They thank us for sharing a piece of heaven and that they feel like they are coming home. Now that we are retired, we spend a great deal of time year round at our other home on Ingham Pond.

Why they chose this property

When I purchased the Cottage in 1975 it did not look anything like it looks today. After getting married in 1981 we started to fix it up. We had no power or running water and the only way to get to it was by boat. We hauled everything by boat. Food, water, propane for the gas lights and gas refrigerator, along with runs to the emergency room were all done by boat. Many times these trips were made at night in the fog and rain. Some of the best northern lights sightings we experienced were spotted on clear nights during these trips. Once our sons arrived we purchased the property behind us and decided to build a road and bring in power. That was in 1991. The following year the old camp was dismantled [except the front wall where the picture window is located]. We designed and built the present day cottage.
The fields that you travel through on the way to the Cottage were not there when we purchased the property. It was all woods. An ole timer told us that when he was a kid the entire side of the hill was pasture and that the view was fabulous. So in 1994 we clear cut the land and brought it back to fields. This was a massive undertaking but the finished product was well worth it. Through the years we acquired adjacent properties to increase our holdings and prevent any potential development.
In 2001 we purchased an old camp to the east of the Cottage. We dismantled the old camp and designed and built an Adirondack style home on the site. This is a year round home and home to our youngest son. We all greatly enjoy the peace and serenity of the Ingham Pond area.

What makes this property unique

One cannot fully explain all the benefits that the Cottage has to offer. You really have to experience being here. One feature that our guests like, is the ability to be able to drive right up to the Cottage. For someone with difficulty walking, being able to walk in from the driveway without any steps is a plus along with a first floor bedroom and bathroom. This is why we have many guests that have returned every year for the past 15-20 years!! 2015 was our first year advertizing with VRBO.
