Comfortable, warm, clean, spacious (for 2). We were there during a wet Christmas so didn't explore the farm land. Access is via narrow single track roads, very messy in winter.
Laura is extremely helpful and welcoming.
We loved our stay. The property was comfortable, clean, relaxed and just perfect for our small family and dog. It’s in a great location for exploring the stunning surrounding area.

Perfect base for exploring South Devon
Perfect location to travel to surrounding beaches and Kingsbridge and there are plenty of beaches to visit. Absolutely beautiful scenery within the local area. Property description slightly misleading though as could barely see the sea view!
Small lanes to negotiate when traveling but always worth the journey.
Property was well equipped, comfy beds and a good shower, sofa had a bit of a doggy smell! Advertised as having Wi-fi, then told on arrival it was very sketchy, barely worked for us.

Lovely rural and quiet retreat
This is a lovely barn conversion with everything you need for a self catering holiday. Away from the hustle and bustle of working life, suitable for those that don’t mind being away from shops and neighbours and just want peace and quiet. The cockerels and chickens outside each morning were also a gentle reminder that you are on a farm and were lovely. The barn is well equipped and comfortable, a home from home. Thankyou

Beautiful location, extremely comfortable and well equipped property.
We were doing a spot of house hunting in the area and The Stables made a great base for us. There were some nice welcoming treats upon our arrival, including some treats for our dog. Laura, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. The property is in a good position for exploring the South Hams area and there are lovely views and walks literally from the front door.It was enjoyable seeing the farm animals around the property, and there were some beautiful night skies to be seen.
We had a busy couple of days but we felt immediately relaxed and comfortable when we returned to The Stables in the evenings. The place was cozy, spotlessly clean, and so well equipped that all you need to bring would be your clothes and toothbrush!

Spacious, comfortable & convenient
Laura was very welcoming (along with her dogs!). Lovely setting down country lane - a pleasure to come back to each evening. Having visited the South Hams area for about 40 years, we were able to enjoy familiar places: Kingsbridge, Torcross, Bigbury-on-Sea. The weather was good but staying for only 3 nights meant we weren't able to do more. We hope to return next year.

About the host
Hosted by Laura
I have always lived in the South Hams, firstly on my parent farm near Dartmouth and now with my husband on this family owned property. I work locally with adults with learning disabilities. I am very much an outdoors person and in my spare time enjoy my horses, chickens and dogs.
Why they chose this property
Higher Stancombe Farm was built by my husbands uncle who sadly had a tragic accident. The property was then passed to my Father-in-law, and luckily for us, we now have to opportunity to live here and call it home.
What makes this property unique
Higher Stancombe farm has no near neighbours and is about in the middle of the countryside as you can get. Situated on top of a hill you get unsurpassed views of the countryside looking out to see. We are situated in the heart of an AONB and have varied and beautiful countryside surrounding us. Just a short 10 min drive will take you into the heart of Kingsbridge, a pretty, rural town on the estuary, where you will find a thriving town centre full of lovely shops as well as 2 supermarkets and all modern conveniences.
