About this property

Beautifully Appointed Apartment metres away from the Place aux Herbes. Sleeps 2

The apartment is on the second floor of a beautiful elegant stone property likely to have been a clothing merchant's house dating from the early 18th C. It is positioned just off the famous Place aux Herbes in the heart of the historic old town and overlooked by the Duchy towers.
The apartment has recently been fully renovated to a very high standard. There are four very large double glazed opening windows, tall ceilings and white walls and tiled floors, which make for a very light and comfortable space. The mixture of French antique and contemporary styled furniture, original local artwork and well designed interior lighting help create a unique and stylish living space in the centre of the old town.
The kitchen and contents are all new and equipped with everything we believe you will likely need. An new attractive high quality walk-in shower was fitted in 2018 and the King sized double bed is very comfortable with quality cotton sheets and covers. In case you have a special request for one additional guest there is also a large comfortable double bed sofa within the main living space available by agreement.
Located on the second floor overlooking the narrow pedestrianised Rue de la Republique and facing one of the most important 1517 historic renaissance buildings in Uzes there are views towards the medieval square and Boulevard Gambetta.
On Saturday and Wednesday mornings you literally can walk straight out into the hustle and bustle of the market or take a few steps and visit one of the the many cafes and attractive shops within the centre.
Award winning Boulangeries, Boucheries, Tea Shops, Perfumeries, Boutiques, Bars, Wine Shops and Mini Supermarkets are literally within a few steps from the front door. You are in the heart of the town yet in the evening when the streets go quiet you can shut yourself off from the world by closing the wooden shutters and double glazed windows for total peace and quiet.
Everything that we think you may need is provided including two large modern fans to keep you cool during warmer weather; a Bose sound system; an induction cooker; a dishwasher; an automatic coffee machine; radio; toaster; new large 50’’ flat screen TV with smart multi chose of satellite channels; dvd; super fast WiFi; hairdryer; a comprehensive pack of local maps and information including recommendations for restaurants and local attractions and bus timetables if you are without a car. We try to use public transport if possible as the buses are so convenient and inexpensive no matter the distance. During the height of the hotter summer months we use the local outdoor Municipal 3M pool to cool down and laze. It’s about 5 mins walk away and around €5 a day.
Uzes is a unique and special place and we take great pleasure in guests having a relaxing and memorable time enjoying all the delights it has to offer.

Perfect apartment, perfect stay!
We absolutely loved this beautiful apartment! It is in the perfect location, just steps from the Place aux Herbes, on a pedestrian street. It is in an old building, but the apartment is completely redone, without losing character. There are lovely antiques, a very comfortable bed, and a completely redone bathroom with an excellent shower. Simon, our host, was wonderful, explaining everything and giving us great guidance for restaurants, sights to see, etc. We actually extended our stay because we loved the apartment so much. It has everything you need for a great stay. Uzes is fabulous, lots to see, not too many tourists, lots of restaurants...a perfect holiday! You can't go wrong with this apartment.

Happy in the Heart of Uzes
Staying at Simon and Suzanne's apartment was lovely. From the onset Simon was very professional and personable, making the booking arrangements straightforward. During our stay he was also very helpful. We appreciated these things very much. The apartment is in a great spot to enjoy village life. It is tasteful and comfortable. The thoughtfully chosen finishes and furnishings make for a very pleasurable environment. Uzes is a wonderful location to be based for the exploration of Provence. This was a very positive experience for us and one I would recommend.

While the property is centrally located and is tastefully decorated, it was covered in accumulated dirt, I contacted the owners with photos hoping for a cleaner , their reaction, an oversight . During the heatwave there were 2 fans , which didn’t take the edge off the 39 degree days

Property manager, location and apartment were all perfect.
Could not have asked for a nicer greeting from the manager. Also owners were quick to respond to emails. Apartment is very well kept and decorated and has everything you need for any length of stay. We loved that we just walked out the door and were close to shops, restaurants and especially the Market on Saturday!!!! Would recommend highly!!!!!

Communication with Simon & Suzanne was fantastic, their recommendations were just great.
Loesje the apartment manager is an absolute diamond from moment we made contact on arrival at the airport, checking in and then upon checking out, her nature and warmth really shine! The apartments location is perfect. The bed was very comfortable, great big shower. Very tastefully furnished. Highly recommended Ma Cantine for excellent high quality fare and unpretentious. Bev a vin was superb also, eat out in the courtyard under the fig trees! Swimming in the local rivers is a must and was a highlight of our trip as too was the fabulous Saturday Market. We would love to come back already! Thank you Loesje, Simon & Suzanne, our best wishes Caroline & Nick

Amazing
Apartment is footsteps from everything you need. Loesje checked us in and has been available 24/7 to answer any questions. My wife and I have spent 7 nights in Uzes with our 26 year old Son with us for first 3. The apartment is an oasis to come back to each day. Our practice is to be out all day and eat in each night. I could not recommend the apartment more to others. Simon (owner) will send each guest an unbelievable welcome pack that gives guidance on just about everything. We followed that and have had a ball.

Lovely apartment in a charming town
We stayed three nights in this lovely apartment. It was beautifully decorated and furnished and very comfortable. The updated shower was a particularly nice addition. Our hosts provided excellent information about Uzes and the surrounding attractions. I wish we had arranged to stay longer!

A lovely apartment in a fantastic town
The apartment is right at the heart of this wonderful place. The restaurants and shops are right outside your door. Don't miss the market on Saturdays and Wednesdays which covers every street. So much to see in Uzes and surrounded by wonderful historic cities and villages.

Fantastic Apartment in Uzes
We loved this apartment and its proximity to everything: bakery, meat market, grocery, wine and wonderful restaurants! It was such a treat to stay in a town for a week and really get to know it. We felt very comfortable, even with our limited French! Although the building is old, the apartment has been updated. It has high ceilings, a nice mix of antiques and contemporary furniture with a sleek European kitchen and bath complete with an amazing new shower. The pedestrian street was quiet in the evenings. Simon left an excellent directory for the apartment and restaurant recommendations. Our friends stayed in a "villa" out of Uzes; we were so happy we hadn't joined in that house! Our one negative, which couldn't be helped, was coming in on Saturday, Market Day...big mistake! Between the traffic and crowds, we made multiple passes to find our way. Besides, Uzes has a great market that you don't want to miss so start your stay on a different day! We've recommended this property to numerous friends who enjoy France and hope to return again.

About the host

Hosted by Simon and Suzanne

Host profile image
We are an English couple from the old market town of Knutsford, Cheshire, 15 miles south of Manchester. Suzanne is a Toy Inventor and I am a practising Architect. We love history, art, culture, walking and good food so it was fate that we discovered and fell in love with Uzes and sheer luck that we found our perfect apartment in December 2015.
We bought from a lovely Australian couple who share the same passions and it was a bonus to us to find out that the property had already established a great reputation and excellent reviews through VRBO. We didn't intend to rent out but to have as our own personal hideaway spot in this gorgeous part of France but as we are still very professionally very busy it makes sense and will give us pleasure to share with others of similar tastes.

Why they chose this property

I have been travelling to different parts of France for the last 30 years and often took cycling trips around the Cote D'Azur and Provence. On one visit nearly 25 years ago I was suffering from a bad back and needed to rest up and camped near the Pont du Gard. That evening I visited Uzes on a balmy evening in August and the elegance and Architectural charm had an this amazing impact upon me. I thought it was beautifuI and unspoilt. I only stayed a few hours but vowed to return one day. Well, I did, in December 2015 and 36 hours later we made an offer for this apartment.

What makes this property unique

It is a very spacious comfortable and relaxing place to stay in the heart of this unique living Medieval town. It is extremely light, airy and bright apartment for such an old property and decor is both contemporary and traditional. You will love being above the busy street in the heart of town yet its possible to hide away and enjoy peace and quiet when the shutters and windows are closed.
The property is managed by a young experienced local French lady who speaks reasonably good English and who will be there to meet and greet and help with anything you need during your stay.
Thankfully Uzes does not suffer from excessive tourism as with many Provencal towns and villages and appears to operate as much for the locals as for the tourists, even in the height of summer. We love the fact that everything we need is a few metres away from the front door and the quality of shops and restaurants is exceptional.
