This stay was absolutely perfect. The location is perfect for quick access to numerous mountains, the property is gorgeous, and the host provided so many suggestions for food and things to do. We will definitely be booking this exact place again on our next visit.
We had a fantastic stay in Leadville at Penny's place. Everything was exactly as pictured: clean, quiet, cozy and very comfortable. Had a great chat with Penny and was great to meet her sweet dog Tie. Will definitely be back when we visit our favorite mountain town again!
We visited Leadville, CO to enjoy the many hikes with mountain views. This was a perfect homebase. The rental was as listed and host Penny was available and very helpful. We would definitely stay here again!
A great place to stay. Feels like you are away in the woods, yet you are close to everything. The patio was great for morning coffee.only 2 nights but worth it.
the unit had everything you would need to enjoy your visit. All cooking amenities, cozy bed, TV, books, games, and located within walking distance of grocery store and town. Owner lived upstairs and was available for questions and answers about not only the apartment but also what to do around town, etc.
This is a great location for anyone wanting to enjoy an active vacation in the mountains. There are many wonderful hiking trails and destinations available close by. Penny was a helpful and friendly host and I am sure works hard to keep the property comfortable for her guests. I recommend this property to anyone who wants an active mountain vacation and would certainly stay here again myself.
This is a well equipped basement apartment with a nice view thanks to two big sliding glass doors. The queen size bed with its warm comforter and flannel sheets kept us very comfortable. I love the pellet stove. It not only provided additional heat but also gave the apartment a cozy atmosphere.
What can I say that hasn’t already been said about this gem of a property, much less, the best hostess I met in the Rockies!
Penny’s hospitality, attention to detail, superb communication and joyous personality will make you feel at ease when you step inside her cozy home. We had everything we needed from fresh linen/towels to cozy blankets to house slippers and cozy robes that made us feel like we were at a five star hotel :) We thoroughly enjoyed our time exploring the outdoors in Leadville, especially having a warm place to relax and watch the Super Bowl (sorry for the shouts!). Thanks again for welcoming us into your home! We hope to see you soon!

Interesting
Different than what we are accustomed to, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The heating setup was definitely new to us however it worked out altough if was a bit brisk at first. The temperature is set at sixty degrees and the only way to heat up the basement is the pellet stove. We did not feel like we could relax with all of the notes regarding what "Not" to do. We decided to leave after one of our two night stay.
It's a well equipped, 1 bedroom, ground floor unit. Very comfortable bed. The small kitchen has a good sized refridgerator and nice gas stove with plenty of cooking utensils. Living room has a great easy chair and TV has Amazon Prime streaming app. Very close to Safeway grocery store. Super nieghborhood. This 2 story home is surrounded with a lovely forest. Gas BBQ and table with chairs just outside the living room. Excellent overall value. Penny is a
really pleasant and helpful onsite owner.
The rental was excellent. 1 br, 1bath, full kitchen and washer dryer.
King bed was very comfortable.
Had a pellet stove, pellets supplied that took the nip out of the air
Such a nice place I have already reserved again in July
Peggy was great providing information
Such an amazing home. Very clean. Very quiet and in a cute quiet neighborhood. Penny is the best host I have ever encountered! This was my second stay with her and we are already planning our third.
Came up to Leadville for the race weekend, this property was perfect for my needs; clean, close and all the amenities one could need. I would definitely stay here again.
We loved our stay, The apartment is very clean, cozy, and has all the extras that made us happy to come back after a day of hiking. The price is excellent for the location, you can't get better. Thoughtful details included: humidifiers, clothes rack, stack of blankets, thoughtful interior design, coffee, comfortable beds, washer/dryer, sliding door to a quiet wooded backyard, close to town/trails. Penny offered local tips on: local attractions, good eats, and hiking trails to explore. Her care was obvious and was very much appreciated. I highly recommend!
Had a great time in lovely accommodations. The walkout apartment is extremely comfortable and the kitchen is well appointed. So often the cookware is just barely adequate, not here. Great pots and pans made cooking feel like home. I would highly recommend this conveniently located, private apartment for an individual or a couple.
First, note that Leadville is the highest elevation incorporated city in the US at just over 10,000 feet so be prepared! We weren’t LOL! But, Penny was so very helpful and let us know we could buy little cans of oxygen to help us adjust and reduce the side effects of the high altitude. This is a basement apartment that is fully furnished and has some nice and unique touches such as a pellet stove for those cold nights! Penny was accessible but not intrusive and we really enjoyed getting to know her. We hope we can visit again, after we slowly acclimate to the altitude 😀
This VRBO was such a fun find. Leadville is an incredibly fun little town with some of the nicest people we’ve met. The unit had a lot of space for being a basement apartment, and Penny gave us as much privacy as we wanted (though we could text her for just about anything). The pellet stove was a dreamy addition to the unit especially with the frigid leadville winter nights. We loved our stay and would greatly recommend staying here to anyone. We hope to come back and stay here again!
Penny is a fantastic host and information resource for outdoor opportunities in the Leadville area. The space was clean, up to date, and in a great location. We would definitely stay here again!

About the host
Hosted by Penny Mackey
I grew up in Duluth, Mn. and moved to Colorado in 1987. I was a ski instructor with Vail Resorts and retired after 25 years.
Why they chose this property
I bought this property because I did a lot of camping in the area when I moved to Colorado. In my opinion, Lake county is the best of the best in Colorado!
What makes this property unique
I fell in love with the views and the opportunity to try my hand at alpine gardening at 10,000 feet. This is my passion in the summer. Not to mention the awesome hiking trail right next to my house! I love the proximity to so many ski resorts without having to live in a "ski town"
