Monticelli has great potential

I enjoyed my stay but felt I was walking on eggshells the entire time. They knew I had a service dog traveling with me and threatened to not let me stay because he was bigger than they expected. She was very insistent don't let him on bed....take him every time you leave and never leave him alone. He did great...she was just rude.

Relaxing stay

The property is big and there is many area to enjoy the view and relax. The owners are gladly sharing information on the surroundings, what to do, where to eat. Our room was as expected and renovated with great care and high quality. We LOVED the pub down the street, where you can enjoy local food, for an affordable price. Highly recommended.

Grazie 1000 !

Great host and sparkling clean place!

Cristina & Fausto were very responsive and helpful. Their place was clean, quiet, and had a great view. We enjoyed our stay very much and only wished that we could have stayed longer.

This is a little bit of heaven out of the madness of the endless city and traffic

Room was spacious, clean and very livable with a good sized separate bathroom and shower. Christina and her husband were wonderful hosts, checking on our every need. The patio and gardens were very serene and peaceful with fabulous views. Having breakfast in the open air kitchen added a special touch, as did the freshly baked breakfast cake from Christina. Never believe your GPS at the bottom of the driveway. Always go left when you are leaving!

A hidden gem so well worth finding!

This property is terrific and the owners, Fausto and Cristina, are the consummate hosts. They look after your every need. Upon arrival, Fausto brought us a bowl full of several varieties of grapes he had just picked off their vines! The area is just as beautiful as the pictures portray it. There are hundreds of olive trees, countless different fruit and nut trees and a view of the Mediterranean Sea. Pompeii can be seen in the shadow of Mt. Vesuvius. We were fortunate to be there during harvesting time and were invited to wander the orchards. The apt was bright, clean, spacious and just as described. Ours only had a refrigerator but there are other apts available on site if you want more amenities. There is also a large penthouse apt that is super well appointed with a full kitchen, washing machine and huge terrace in front of the Mediterranean Sea that affords gorgeous sunsets. There are beautiful pieces of furniture and artwork in all the apartments. With a little advance notice, Cristina will prepare a delicious meal for you at a very reasonable price. The couple are extremely talented and interesting: by day Fausto is a surgeon and Cristina is a physical therapist but once they return to their Mansion Monticelli they take up their second love of their orchards, carefully tending the gardens and making improvements to the property that has been in the family for generations but the building was recently constructed, albeit made to look as if it was built into the hillside centuries ago. This is their home and they rightfully take great pride in it. Without hesitation we would go back but for longer than the three days we had this trip and recommend this place to our friends and family. With Naples, Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi Coast, there is a lot to see in the surrounding areas but the countryside begs you to slow down and enjoy the surroundings.

Unexpected experience

The home owners were very nice and accommodating but the problem began because of the language barrier. The owners did not speak English well enough that some things were misinterpreted. There was miscommunication on prices for meals the owner provided; either they did not provide it until we were leaving or we did not understand their meaning when we were discussing it. This almost caused us to miss our return flight home because we needed to pay for the meals. Just be sure to ask questions concerning meals the owner provides if you decide to stay here. They did cook a very well meal. The road to the villa is not very well maintained, be prepared to bottom out if you drive a small car.

Little piece of paradise!

We spent three nights here in the middle of June. What a hidden gem! The property is blessed with fabulous sea views, Fausto's beautifully tended garden terrace is bursting with olives, citrus, figs, hazelnuts and grape vines, and the top of the estate has the most breathtaking views over Vesuvio and the Bay of Naples. The room is elegant, spacious and very welcoming. There is plenty of storage space, a beautiful bathroom and a very comfortable bed. A car is essential for a stay here but was within easy travelling distance to Pompeii, Vesuvio, the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento. There is an excellent pizzeria within walking distance with incredibly reasonable prices, especially when compared to Sorrento or Positano, and we often brought our take-away pizza back to Monticelli Mansion to eat on the terrace under the stars. Fausto was a perfect host, ensuring our comfort and wellbeing, providing useful advice and suggestions about trips and services and being friendly and welcoming every time we saw him - we had lots of lovely conversations over an espresso! We just wish that we had booked to stay for much longer as the location was perfect and Fausto was the most wonderful host. We will definitely be back!

Great property, great views, excellent hosts! Go there!

We spent a week at the beginning of May with the Dottor and Cristina. The house is private in its own grounds which extend far beyond the pictures on the site. The views in each directions are stunning, and from the top of the hill you can see over the entire Bay of Naples and the plain towards Vesuvius. They grow grapes, olives, all sorts of fruit trees, as well as a full vegetable garden. We ate breakfast outside on one of the terraces every morning. The bedroom is spacious and the bed is very comfortable. The kitchen in our apartment was tiny but well-organised with everything that we needed. It felt wrong to spend time indoors because it was so serene outside. We had expected traffic noise to be loud, because of the location, but it wasn’t. The birdsong contributed to the overall sense of peacefulness. A car is essential, as the nearest bus service is at least 15 minutes walk downhill, and Satnav would be useful too, as the hills make 3/4G reception difficult for a smartphone. We parked our car at the Carrefour Parking opposite the Pompeii main entrance for 10 Euros a day and took the Circumvesuviana train from Pompei Scavi station (only 2 Eu per single trip) to get to Naples for a day trip, and to get to Sorrento for a ferry to Capri on another day. There was no problem parking at the Herculaneum excavation car park midweek, and our day trip drive to Solferata and Baia worked well. We also spent a great day going down to Agropoli (eat at Anna’s Pizzeria) and Paestum. British drivers will have to steel themselves when driving, as Neapolitan drivers, moped riders and pedestrians are all nuts. They don’t use indicators and everyone seems to own the road. You get used to it! This was our second stay in the area, and was much better because of the location. Previously we had stayed on the peninsula beyond Sorrento, and it was always hard work to get anywhere. All Naples goes to Sorrento at the weekend, so you can’t plan on using a car then on the peninsula. We would happily return to stay with Cristina if we come to this region again, and can’t recommend it strongly enough. After many years of marriage, we’ve had lots of holidays, and this has been one of the top three ever!
