Bring the past back to life in this re-imagined vintage space. The heritage Arts and Crafts residence features original finishes, architectural brick masonry, Georgia pine floors, a shaded courtyard garden, and a cedar deck with a BBQ. This peaceful home is a quaint gem filled with original art, culture and history. Hi speed Wi-Fi, cable, and Netflix ensure you'll feel right at home.

DETAILS
This lovely downtown Arts and Crafts gem offers two floors of spacious comfort full of the owner artist's original works. It is the perfect alternative for families, friends, and business travelers who appreciate a peaceful hideaway in an atmosphere of art, culture and history. With its own private entrance, this 1350 sq. ft. rental provides absolute privacy and a charming English-style courtyard for your exclusive use.

This historically designated Arts and Crafts style home circa 1913, is situated in the safe upscale community of Cabbagetown in the heart of Toronto. This vacation rental includes two floors (main and garden level) of absolute privacy in an apartment with a separate entrance, approx. 1350 square feet, with an outdoor deck and private walled courtyard for your exclusive use.

This fully furnished self-catering unit is a perfect alternative for vacationers or business travelers who appreciate a peaceful hideaway in an atmosphere of culture and history. You wouldn't know you were in the middle of Canada’s largest city, This home provides a cozy space for friends and family traveling together to enjoy a beautiful common space to relax and dine in an affordable way.

The area is perfect for architecture buffs (the New York Times described it as the largest enclave of restored Victorian homes in North America) and this century home on a quiet, beautiful tree-lined street features an old-fashioned front porch shaded by wisteria and a gingko tree ( Frank Lloyd Wright’s favourite combination). The gardens are designed with authentic arts and crafts principles inspired by British garden designer Gertrude Jekyll.

The rental space includes a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel fridge and dishwasher, a microwave, a gas stove and wall oven. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen size mattress, dresser and a built in closet with mirrored doors. The other bedroom with the twin set does not have a door, but a curtain separates it from a large open space with a mirrored dresser, closet and seating area. There is a bathroom with a shower, marble vanity and deep soaker tub. There are three area with mirrors and hairdryers, especially suited to those getting ready for special events.

Many original features are intact: Southern Georgia pine floors, high baseboards, historic mouldings, a pocket door and a wood burning fireplace in a spacious and comfortable living room and separate dining room. There are beautiful botanical dishes for eight and a fully equipped kitchen for those choosing to create their own delicious gourmet meals. The property owner is a fine artist whose original paintings you'll find throughout, in fact you may find yourself feeling you are staying in an art gallery.

You can walk most everywhere, a car is unnecessary but if you have one, parking in a Green P lot just a few steps away, or I can easily order a temporary parking pass from the City of Toronto. A weekly pass is $46.71. There are streetcar and bus routes just around the corner and within a few short blocks you will find every amenity you will need for a comfortable stay.

Shpooing is at your fingertips! There are coffee shops, gourmet delis (Daniel et Daniel, the best croissants and pain chocolat in Toronto, St. Jamestown Steaks & Chops, the Epicure for deli meats and gourmet cheeses), award-winning restaurants (F’Amelia and the House on Parliament), liquor and beer stores, No Frills and organic grocery stores, and even a few heritage animal breeds at Riverdale Farm (free) a few blocks away!

Amazing location in Toronto

Victoria's place was perfect for our family of four. The house is located in a pretty neighbourhood from where it is really easy to go downtown. The suite is spacious and well equipped.

Thank you Victoria

I recently had the opportunity to stay at Victoria's lovely home during my son's stay in hospital. So much nicer than staying in a hotel, to be able to return after each long day to a comfortable home environment. I am not familiar with the city and Victoria was very helpful with information about the area and very kind and considerate about my needs during my stay. Thanks again Victoria

A charming historic base for a Toronto visit

American film makers love to use Toronto as a North American city location because this fabulous city still retains all its historic neighborhoods, unlike most American cities. Cabagetown is Victorian, so named because early immigrants planted cabbages in the front gardens, not perhaps grasping that they had come to the breadbasket of the world; a land of plenty. Ms. Haddon is a charming host. The house is spacious, a good sized living room and dining room and an eat-in kitchen. Ms Haddon had supplied milk, fruit and cheese for our arrival. The bedrooms are in the basement, two twins and a Queen size bed plus bathroom with a full bath. The only entrance to the basement is stairs from the kitchen, which will have to be changed in future to allow direct access to the outside. We were extremely comfortable, private and at home in the house.

Perfect accommodations and location made for a memorable visit to Toronto

We had a wonderfully perfect 9-day stay in Victoria's apartment; she warmly greeted us with a fruit, cheese, and cracker tray at the end of a long day of travel. She gave us lots of information to help us adjust to our new surroundings (our first visit to Toronto), also providing a detailed folder with answers to many questions, and the rest was a fun discovery of our own. We quickly felt comfortable and acclimated. She manages to provide all you may need while still retaining the quaint and quiet atmosphere of the Arts and Crafts neighborhood. All the rooms are very clean, the beds very comfortable, and the entire space felt like a home away from home. We also enjoyed her beautifully colorful artwork displayed throughout, and the coffee-table books including the history of Cabbagetown. The location was also excellent, as downtown is a short Street-car/subway ride away, but the surrounding neighborhood has anything you could need within minutes walking time, and you do not feel as if you are located in a downtown area when you are at the home. We will definitely recommend her place to anyone wanting to visit the Toronto area.

This is a little gem in a concrete jungle.

Victoria greeted us warmly and gave us a detailed tour of the apartment. It is cute, clean and cozy. A cheese and fruit plate on our arrival was a very welcoming touch as we had a long day of travel. The furnishings are what you would expect from an artist and the original paintings are stunning. We loved that we could take postcards with her paintings on it home for souvenirs. They will be going all over the world! Thanks for a lovely stay!

Lovely, welcoming home

Start to finish this home was truly a home for myself and 3 lady friends for a week. We arrived on a festive Halloween evening. We took public transportation or Uber/Lyft to downtown convention center and entertainment district, easily. The host is exceptionally warm and welcoming. The neighborhood, Cabbagetown, is friendly and interesting. We had everything we needed to cook gourmet meals and entertain friends.. The beds were comfortable and I slept well. I look forward to returning to Cabbagetown & the great city of Toronto!

Beautiful, quiet home in a friendly neighborhood. The very best of Cabbagetown!

I came to Toronto for a conference and chose to stay in Victoria’s lovely home to get a feel for the real Toronto. What a fantastic choice. The fall colors in the neighborhood were breathtaking and everyone was decorating for Halloween, making me feel right at home. I talked to several people walking their dogs and neighbors on porches. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. There were so many nice places to eat within walking distance that one night we were able to do a lovely pub crawl for small bites at several different styles of dining. So much variety! The check-in and check-out processes were very easy with Victoria’s clear directions. I felt very safe and well cared for throughout my stay. In spite of being in the middle of the city, this home is nice and quiet at night so you can relax and sleep without disturbance. The home is so beautifully decorated with lovely artwork and furniture. A real designer’s attention to detail that made me look forward to coming “home” each evening. A clean and superlative home in every way! Parking was easy to access at the end of the street just beside a conveniently located Starbucks. I had everything I needed and can’t say enough good things about this VRBO experience. I highly recommend this place and will definitely stay again on future trips to Toronto!

quiet oasis in the middle of bustling Toronto

What's not to love? Victoria welcomed me with a platter of snacks when I arrived. She spent a good deal of time explaining the local shops and restaurants, which are along Parliament Avenue about a block away. The apartment is very well equipped with everything one could possibly need. It even has Netflix, which I used to binge-watch a series one evening when I needed some down time. And I just loved the quiet and shady back yard! It was perfect for enjoying a leisurely breakfast latte from one of the many coffee shops steps away. The bedroom was very comfortable and quiet, at the back of the house facing the garden. The decor and furnishings are very tasteful, and Victoria's beautiful tulip watercolors adorn the walls. Being in a fairly central location, I was concerned about the availability of street parking. I needn't have been, it was never remotely an issue; I never had to park more than 100 feet away from the house. Toronto is a very easy city to get around by car, as long as you don't mind paying for parking at meters or lots, which truthfully are quite reasonably priced by any city standards. Downtown (CN Tower, Second City Comedy Club, etc.) was only 15 minutes away. My rental car was most convenient for me, but there are trolleys and plenty of taxis at your disposal. There is so much to see and experience in Toronto that I will definitely return. My four days barely touched the surface. One thing not to miss is the fountain in Berczy Park, practically next door to the St. Lawrence Market, which has a multitude of food quality merchandise vendors. I had a great time, and look forward to returning, both to Toronto and to Victoria's lovely house.

Very quiet and yet centrally located. Victoria goes to the trouble of preparing a snack and glass of wine to welcome her guests. She also provides lots of towels and a comfortable bed. I recommend it.

First class accommodations and service all around.

From the moment I arrived, Victoria made me feel right at home. The home is beautifully decorated with many of Victoria's fabulous paintings. She has a knack for detail and the home has everything you could possibly want or need. The house is situated in one of Toronto's most charming and historical neighbourhoods. I would certainly recommend this fine property to anyone visiting the area.

Cute home in the historic district

Victoria was helpful and considerate. She set us up with city parking immediately. The kitchen was well stocked and even had a welcome cheese platter, snacks, and drinks. Stores and restaurants are conveniently located. The apartment was very clean and well supplied with toiletries and linens. I would give this apartment 5 stars except for the fact that the 2 beds in one bedroom were more like cots and were uncomfortable and small. The second bedroom’s bed was larger.

Wonderful introduction to Toronto

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cabbagetown. Victoria was very welcoming and the house felt like a home from home. When we visit a city, we like to walk so we parked the car when we arrived and explored Toronto on foot. It is about a mile to downtown and a mile to the Distillery District. We discovered F'Amelia's on our first night (Wednesday is half price wine night) and would highly recommend it - it is a short stroll away. There are plenty of interesting places along Parliament Street to buy dinner if you prefer to dine at home and a small supermarket for reasonably priced staples like milk and bread.
