About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Has two daughters, three grandsons, four great grandsons and two beautiful granddaughters in law.

Loved the place. Only complaint. Range needs to be repaired. Only two burners worked properly. Otherwise, everything was very nice and comfortable.

Not exactly what we imagined

So the first problem was communication They were terrible at answering. They never told me I had to pick up keys at other place. Pre booking I asked about beds and they are sagging. Never answered the question Not very clean but they charge a cleaning fee

Lovely spot in Wawona

Really enjoyed our stay! Comfortable and well cared for cabin. It’s what it looks like in the pictures, cozy and kinda retro. We were there in July when it’s hot out but the whole house fan worked great to cool it down in the evening. Staff was incredibly responsive including a call after hours.

Helped make Yosemite family trip a success

We had two families staying at this cabin and it worked perfectly. The location was great, beautiful surroundings, easy access to everything in the park. Appliances were a bit outdated making cooking for a large group challenging but everything else was lovely.

If you are going to Yosemite you want to stay in the park to save time entering the park. The location is 26 miles from valley floor. We really enjoyed being away from noice and busyness of the valley floor. The house had everything you needed. Maintenance was fast at responding to our needs while in the house. Great place to stay

Homey cabin feel. Loved the wrap around outdoor patio (very big with lots of seating). The kitchen could just some upgraded cooking pots/pans but otherwise has everything you need.

Most expensive VRBO ever and condition of property was sub par.

Musty smell, carpet is dirty and has a lot of stains and needs replacing. Ants in the kitchen. Countertops in poor condition. Bathrooms are out dated and in poor condition. The basement with the ping pong table smells bad and is not a place anyone would want to spend any time in.

Excellent cabin

Our family of 8 plus one 6 week old baby enjoyed our stay very much. We hiked at Yosemite and the cabin was a great respite after the days of hiking.

Great stay

Great place for our two families ( 8 adults) to get together over the holidays. The beds were comfortable although a couple of the beds were either well worn in the middle or on the left side. The only real problem we had was with the dishwasher as it leaked profusely when turned on and was therefore unusable and we had to find extra time to wash everything by and we had a lot of dishes for 8 people. Could have used a little more lighting in the kitchen ( looks like there used to be a light attached to a ceiling fan, but is no longer there). We appreciated the the wood for the wood stove and fortunately there was a person in our party familiar with how to use the stove. Instructions for those who have never used one would be helpful. Knowing how far away the dumpster was would also have been helpful. I believe that a Foosball table was listed, but was not found. Not a problem as the ping pong table was in good shape and we enjoyed using it . Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. Seeing snow when we awoke the first morning was magical.

Large, clean cabin with a beautiful view located in Yosemite

We rented this cabin in July, 2017. It was very clean, and was exactly as pictured. It is ideal for a large family with plenty of sleeping room. On the deck there is a grill and a view of a mountain. Within 10 minutes there are 2 general stores, and there is also the Swinging Bridge Swimming Hole. This is free, and our family spent 2 days there with inner tubes just relaxing and having fun. There are also several restaurants to choose from in the area. The cabin is located about 45 minutes to the "hot spots" in Yosemite Valley. It was a beautiful drive. Registration and check-in was very easy. I would definitely recommend this home; if we return to Yosemite we will rent this cabin again.

Comfortable, clean, very spacious property located in Yosemite National Park, with spectacular view.

Coordination to check in was very easy. We were given all the information we needed as well as information for the park. The home is exactly as pictured. It was very clean and spacious. The deck was beautiful with a view of a mountain right in the back yard. The home had everything we needed for vacation, including a washer and dryer. The location was perfect for us; it was secluded but close to all the Yosemite popular attractions. If you don't feel like driving the 40 minutes to the popular attractions, take some inner tubes to the Swinging Bridge swimming hole off of Forest Rd, which is about 10 minutes away from the home. I would definitely recommend this property.

Amazing property / great, organized, helpful check in gave info about the area

Checkin was quick and easy, we were given keys, info, a map, and directions to swimming holes and local hikes and waterfalls. Cabin was great, comfortable with a nice deck and BBQ. Short distance to all of Yosemite hot spots. We loved it!

Relaxing

Six adults stayed for three nights and were comfortable, relaxed and happy. Loved the secluded setting with the mountain view. The house was cozy and provided everything needed. It was great to "come home" after sight seeing all day. We were blessed to see deer in the yard also.

Our Thanksgiving destination of choice

This is the second time to rent this great property. Works very well with our family of 10, including three children. The fact that it is off the main road is a real plus. Lots of deer around the property and even saw a bear from a distance...we loved that. Chilnualna (sp) is a great hike...close by and beautiful. We are still looking for the fusbal table that is supposed to be down in the rec room, but that is a minor thing! We are a family of hikers and have done quite a few trails in Yosemite. This kitchen is well stocked...everything is in great condition. Glad for the floor heaters in each room because it was cold this year! Wood stove works great. Plenty of firewood. We have rented it again for next Thanksgiving! Thank you again for a wonderful stay in your fantastic home.
