Relaxation at a mountainside retreat
Every aspect of the listing was true to form - the yellow house is located in a very, very quiet mountainside area where the nearest neighbor is a 10 minute walk away. Fields and farms surround the house, which was nestled quite well into the plot with views facing the valley that stretched on and on. The house itself was what I envisioned of a typical country house - two floors with the top floor containing a singular bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and another outside common area that housed another two beds. That common area had open stairs that led down to the ground floor which had the dining table, kitchen, a small relaxation area for a few chairs, a tv and the fireplace, and the main entrance. There is also another bathroom and storage room for food/laundry/etc on the ground floor. Outside there is a massive covered patio area with a large grill and pizza oven, a long countertop with sink and a few tables/chairs, as well as a covered parking area (with mini basketball hoop). The grassy area is small and where the above-ground pool is located, along with a hammock and the clothes line for drying. The sun hits the yard most of the day, so be prepared to get a good tan if you want, otherwise, enjoy the shade of the covered patio and parking area. Other than the house, one can venture upwards following the roads the lead to other smaller villages and houses on the mountain - it's actually a very beautiful hiking and mountain biking area, but definitely for those who have the stamina. Marcelo, the owner, was very gracious and always available to chat and assist when necessary, which while not needed, was certainly appreciated. There is a small restaurant/market/cafe about 2 km walk away, and then the larger town of Marco de Canaveses is about a 10-15 minute drive and where all the big markets are located (Continente, Pingo Doce, Intermarche, etc). This was probably one of the best choices for our month-long relaxation trip we could have imagined, and would highly recommend the house as a retreat from the daily grind - should that be what you are seeking.

Get away from it all
An ideal walled garden for the dogs, although smaller than expected. The house was comfortable and well equipped. Suitable for a family, but not for two couples, due to the bedroom and bathroom arrangements. Lovely views and a massive covered outside area. A welcoming host.

Mooie omgeving, heerlijk rustig!
Prettig vakantieverblijf. Eenvoudig, schoon. De buitenkeuken is een leuke 'extra'. Goede wandelomgeving.
