Santa Fe Get Away

Very comfortable setting...secluded, but easy to get into town. Excellent bike and walking trails. A very peaceful place to get away from the daily routine

Santa Fe heaven

Two couples and a toddler stayed here for a week in November. The house is cozy and comfortable - we enjoyed the outdoor spaces (sunsets, sunrises, stargazing), the sunny dining and living spaces (fantastic fireplace), and the quiet bedrooms. We cooked several meals at home, enjoyed the town of Santa Fe (restaurants, museums, spa), took a couple of hikes, and simply RELAXED! Just what we needed; we came back refreshed and grounded. I highly recommend spending time at Nina and Tom's place.

My two sisters and I rented this house and we loved it! The house was beautiful inside and out! Very clean! Plenty of room. Very quite. We could sit outside in the morning and in the evening and not hear any neighbors or cars driving by! We would stay again in a heartbeat! Short drives to just about everything!

A Week in Peace

This is a beautiful, perfectly maintained home away. We are three people very familiar with this community and Santa Fe, and know this home to be as good as they come. We had occasion to interact with the owners an they are amazing. We could not have had a more perfect week. It is wonderfully quiet at 62 Camerada Lp with a number of places to be alone if one wishes and good communal space. We are going back next year.

True Santa Fe style.

This was a true Santa Fe style house, inside and out. Thoughtfully chosen decor in the local style. Comfortable leather furniture in the living room and the king bed in the master had quality sheets, comforter and pillows. Lots of windows to let the cool breezes flow through. The large courtyards were beautifully landscaped and private. Great for stargazing but the surrounding courtyard walls block the view of the sunrise and sunset. Definitely lacking was some comfortable patio furniture. Very quiet and peaceful. We would definitely consider staying here again.

A perfect retreat!

We spent 4 days in this lovely adobe retreat with another couple. Our goal was to excape the Texas heat and to just relax. The home is in a great location and has beautiful vistas from all angles. We used both courtyards depending on the time of day and there was a fabulous breeze to cool us down. One of the days we went into Santa Fe for dinner which is an easy drive. But most days we ate lunch in Santa Fe and then had dinner at home. That way we could enjoy the spectacular sunsets and then the night sky. For star gazers this is a must! We found the house well appointed with plenty of room for all of us. The gardens were in full bloom and provided a beautiful backdrop to the amazing New Mexico skies. We were all able to totally relax and cool down in this home. We will definitely return!

A Perfect Getaway

Where the Butterflies Fly is a perfect name for this lovely and well kept property. My sister and I rented it for a getaway and reunion and could not have been more pleased. The home is very comfortable with two terrific king-sized beds! The bedrooms are quite spacious. The master bath has a huge tub as well as separate shower. The kitchen is large and well equipped; we cooked several of the nights we were there finding everything we needed. And the gardens! The photos don't quite do them justice. The front garden is totally lovely and the back garden (not pictured) is fabulous especially early in the day. My sister is a budding artist and she was out there painting every morning of our stay. We saw lots of birds, including hummingbirds, the resident lizards and heard the coyotes at night. Both of us are used to coyotes and know how reclusive these interesting animals are. The home's location is great. South from the busy city, the El Dorado area is handsome and well kept, and we found the drive into Santa Fe and the plaza to be easy as is the drive from the Albuquerque airport. We explored the Abiquiu area and found that drive to be just long enough to talk about what we were going to do (on the way up) and what we did (on the way back). We spent one evening at the Santa Fe Opera which was a pleasant and scenic drive (about 40 minutes in rush hour). The neighborhood was very quiet. All in all, we were sorry to have to leave this gorgeous place!

We couldn't have found a better home and location for our four week stay. Where butterflies do fly!

Santa Fe is one of the most unique towns in the US. Museums, gallery's (with excellent artists), restaurants, shopping and of course the friendly atmosphere. But, there is this and so much more when you can live in an adobe home just outside of town in one of the nations largest sustainable communities. Nina and Tom's home is sited on 1 1/2 acres of naturally landscaped property where your neighbors are just far enough away you think you are on a ranch. One of the most wonderful aspects of this home is that there are two walled patios (north and south) heavily landscaped with native flowering vegetation - ie.. "Where the Butterflies Fly". After a day of sightseeing, this is where we would relax. Additionally, as each day began and ended the skies were drop dead gorgeous. The both of us have traveled to many parts of the world and neither of us have ever been exposed to the beauty and drama of the central New Mexico sky. Sunrise and sunset - everyday. Magic! The home itself lived up to the advertisement: from location, spaces and amenities to appliances, furnishings, and tableware. All bed and bath necessities were provided and there was plenty of closet and storage space for our personal items. Nina and Tom contacted us several times to see if we needed anything and to let us know they were available. The social spaces such as the living room, kitchen/dining etc.. were functional and very comfortable. Loved the garage with automatic door opener - nice touch. Skylights brought natural light into internal spaces complimenting those spaces with windows. So there's an abundance of interior natural light. A notebook is provided outlining many of the businesses and activities available close-by including restaurants, shopping, hiking, grocery shopping and other services. Nina and Tom have their favorites (especially restaurants). Take advantage of this - we did. We highly recommend "Where the Butterflies Fly"!

Southwestern Style

Our family stayed at this property for a spring break vacation. The rooms were nice and the kitchen had everything I needed. The little bit of coffee in the fridge was a life saver in the morning after our late night arrival. The house was decorated in a southwestern style, which was appreciated and added to our enjoyment of the property. It was also great to be able to park in the garage. We definitely utilized the binder full of information about the area and the bowl containing brochures for nearby attractions. We loved hiking in a state park that was down the road from the property. We enjoyed the use of the fireplace during our stay as well. There were some drawbacks, however. The home is in a subdivision. That was not clear to me from the pictures. We found the bed in the master bedroom to be uncomfortable. Also, the owners were not responsive. When booking the property, I asked for tips for locating it in the middle of the night. No response to that. I attempted to contact them a couple times during our stay. First, the smoke detector having a low battery in the middle of the night woke up the entire family. Also, I asked a question about recycling, just trying to do the right thing. No response there either. Perhaps I was supposed to contact a property manager?

Better than expected

Tom's arrival email gave us all the last minute information we needed for an outstanding visit. The house was more impressive in person, than the pictures do it justice. Every room is tastefully decorated in southwest decor, with a genuine "home" feeling. Off the beaten path, yet close enough to downtown Santa Fe for spur of the moment shopping or sightseeing. The weather cut short some of our sightseeing plans, so we will return; and Tom and Nina's home will be our absolute first choice for a place to stay. Thank you for making your little slice of heaven available.

Welcoming Thanksgiving escape

The house is as lovely as the photos depict and is close enough to the city of Santa Fe to enjoy all that the city has to offer, yet far enough to enjoy very quiet dark nights. There was an occasional howl from the coyotes, but what's the desert without them! The property was clean and well kept and the beds were very comfortable. The showers were hot as long as only one was on at a time and no one was running water elsewhere in the house. We enjoyed the plaza area for shopping and cafes, especially Blue Corn Café & Brewing Company where the Russian Stout is magnificent. For breakfast we loved the Santa Fe Bake Shop and for Dinner Maria's New Mexican Kitchen didn't disappoint. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to friends & family.

New Mexico Haven

My husband and I spent 10 days at this wonderful property. We enjoyed the location fifteen minutes from Santa Fe, It was peaceful , quiet and we got to view gorgeous sunsets and occasionally hear coyotes. It was just what we wanted for a New Mexico rental. The house is authentic adobe style..very comfortable well equipped and supplied. The owners were terrific ..very efficient in their correspondence and they gave some wonderful ideas on places to go and nearby restaurants. We would highly recommend this rental and would definitely consider a return stay,

About the host

Hosted by Tom Rebstock

Host profile image
Nina and Tom are 50+ "newlyweds" who met in Austin, Texas, while separately plotting an escape to northern New Mexico. Tom is a Learning and Development Executive, while Nina is a Health Counselor and Yoga Instructor. Their forces combined, they are on a spiritual path to the Santa Fe area where they will relocate in 2017.

Why they chose this property

We searched northern New Mexico for years looking for just the right home. We finally settled on Eldorado and considered 30-40 houses before finding the one that spoke to both of us--this one. It has all the features we value: adobe construction, radiant heat, brick floors, a wood-burning kiva, a dream kitchen, passive solar, a whole wall of windows, and big courtyards in both front and back from which we can enjoy New Mexico's big skies and gorgeous mountain views.

What makes this property unique

Eldorado is just 10 minutes from Santa Fe proper and all its attractions, but it is a world apart. We love its openness and tranquility. It has most everything you need but is also close enough for easy access to Santa Fe's best museums and restaurants, etc. This house will be available for rental only until July of 2017, so come enjoy a little piece of Heaven while you can. We offer a 10% discount for returning renters!
