Simple Living

We loved this historic cabin for all of it's quirks. If you're the kind of guest who likes all the modern amenities this may not be your place. The kitchen is a tiny and a challenge to put together a fancy meal but we certainly did. We enjoyed the rustic ambiance and the huge very comfortable bedroom. Deer walked through the yard and dusk. Such a unique place.

Charming get away

My friend and I wanted a place we could escape and this was perfect. East access to I-75 but you feel like you are away from the world. We loved the nearby trails and loved the fireplace. The kitchen was small but we cooked both nights. The fireplace was my favorite. Harper the not-do-small puppy was a special treat for dog lovers. Robert was super nice and accommodating, bringing us a strainer for our pasta. Coffee and teas were a nice plus. We will stay hear again next time we are up this way.

Cabin of my dreams

Robert and Robin were most welcoming to us. We really enjoyed the quietness of the woods and loved every moment of our stay. I wish that our time had been longer, but maybe, another opportunity will present itself in the future. Thank you for a wonderful, peaceful time.

Peaceful Getaway

Absolutely the best hidden getaway in all of East Tennessee. Cabin is cozy and comfortable with all the amenities that you could possibly need for a short stay. Hosts are warm and welcoming and literally just steps away if you need anything. We enjoyed the secluded area but it was just minutes from everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again!

Harned and the cat

The cabin is rustic but well appointed with modern conveniences. Property has a rural aspect but is literally 2 minutes from restaurants, Walmart, etc. Friendly orange cat (Boone) came to visit us twice. Liked the rockers and porch swing outside! Thanks! Mike and Lynette

Quaint and Cozy

We loved staying at the cabin. The fact it was a beautiful few fall days made the cabin even more perfect. We embraced the irregularities of living in an authentic, historic log cabin. Our only complaint is that we had to leave so soon. Would happily have stayed many more days.

Unique

My husband and I stayed for two nights in the cabin. The owners Robin and Bob are very friendly and helpful. The property was easy to find. The cabin was clean and very unique due to the age. Bob gave us some history on the home. It’s not too far from Gatlinberg and Knoxville. We would stay here again.

Beautiful historic cabin with all the modern amenities to make it very comfortable.

Bob and Robin were excellent hosts. Bob greeted us upon arrival and answered a few questions we had and told us a little bit about the historical cabin. The cabin is tucked into the woods but close to the Norris Dam State Park where we attended a wedding. The cabin is very nicely furnished and has all the modern amenities you would need (wifi, TV, kitchen). Met Robin while I was out on the property. She made us feel very welcome and took a little time to visit with us while my friends and I played some music on the front porch of the cabin. My wife and I had a very nice weekend at the cabin and highly recommend it.

About the host

Hosted by Robert and Robin Sain

Host profile image
Bob and Robin Sain are the owners of the Cabin along with their dogs, cats, birds, and horses. As ‘custodians’ of the Harned cabin we are dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the cabin by minimizing the impact of providing conveniences of modern living for our guests. As we restored the cabin we took steps to ensure the original structural integrity of the cabin was retained as much as we could and still comply with local building codes.

Why they chose this property

The Harned family cabin is unique as it is an artifact of the history of Appalachia that is rapidly disappearing. It has endured the passage of time for over 200 years if not longer. One of our primary goals is to preserve it so it may survive for many years to come. Robin and I view our ownership of this cabin as being temporary custodians until we pass it on to the next generation of owners. We want to use this time to collect as much information as we can about the history and background of the cabin and the families who lived in them.

What makes this property unique

Since we started offering guest accommodations in 2002, we have had hundreds of guests representing a variety of people and reasons for staying with us. The experiences we have gained over the years prompt us to level set our goals, interests, and expectations in order to assist you, as a potential guest, to decide if staying in our cabin aligns with our mutual expectations.
We want you, our guest, to understand what we offer:

• We offer safe, comfortable, and quiet accommodations - best suited for couples or small families.

• We seek guests who are looking for a unique place to stay and can appreciate and understand the historical significance of the Cabin.

• Our guests should show respect and care during their stay. This is a very old cabin and cannot be abused or marred as we seek to preserve them for future generations.

Things to consider before making a reservation:

• We respect our guest's privacy and do not provide daily services. However, if there is anything our guests need or have questions, we are more than happy to assist.

• We cannot accommodate large group meetings such as wedding parties, family reunions, business meetings, or other large groups.
