About this property

Gorgeous period cottage with lovely garden next to Sugar Sands beach

This chic, period, five star gold award cottage in Longhoughton a mid Northumberland coastal village is a beautiful coastal getaway, for family or friends, to christmas gatherings to a romantic weekend with your partner. It has four beautiful bedrooms, (three kingsize, one twin) with pretty sash windows overlooking the lovely cottage garden.
The light and airy master suite on the first floor has a large roll top bath for you to relax in, and a double walk in shower from which you can glimpse the sea.
It has one ground floor bedroom with a luxury shower room, a large family bathroom with bath/overhead shower and a stunning, stylishly furnished lounge/dining room, which in Victorian times was the village reading room. Now you can relax into the large comfortable sofas in front of the wood-burning stove and enjoy your favourite novel or cook up a culinary delight in the well-equipped country kitchen with a range cooker, washer/dryer and a dishwasher.
Its large, enclosed, pretty cottage garden is a great place to relax and unwind. Only a two minute drive from the cottage down a farm track, is the beautiful sandy beach, Sugar Sands, soft white sand and rock pools... perfect for children!
If you want to explore the Northumberland Heritage Coast e.g. Alnwick Castle and Garden the cottage is perfectly situated.
We provide child and baby friendly equipment available on request and linen and complementary toiletries. The cottage is only five minutes drive from Alnwick Castle, Coast cottage is perfect for Alnwick Castle wedding- party accommodation.

Honeysuckle and lavender adorn the cottage and garden throughout the summer months. The large rear garden is fully enclosed and the large lawned areas provide plenty of safe space for children to play. In the summer when the many trees are in leaf the garden is extremely private so is perfect for alfresco dining or an evening barbecue.
If you are feeling energetic head down the farm lane at the side of the cottage to the beautiful coastal path, take in the sea air or enjoy a walk or bike ride along the beautiful sandy bay. It is a pleasant twenty minute walk to reach the beach or take the car and be there in a couple of minutes. With plenty of free parking on the links you can stay all day if you wish.
Within the village there is a handy convenience store for all your necessities, which also has a DVD rental corner, great for keeping the kids entertained on a rainy afternoon. There is also a post office and a pretty Saxon church, well worth a look.
Asda deliver groceries to the area on request and there is a large Sainsbury’s in nearby Alnwick. In the same location is large new leisure centre with swimming pool. The village of Longhoughton lies just 4.5 miles east of Alnwick.

A perfect home from home for a large family or group of friends
The property is very well organised with a beautiful garden. We loved the 20 minute walk down the lane to Sugar sands beach. Some days we had it to ourselves

Great location, lovely cottage
Cottage is in a great location with track/quiet road down to beach and Longhoughton is lovely village with shop with good access to other places in the area. Cottage very well-equipped and comfortable. We appreciated the generous wood supply and jigsaws. Good communication with host who was flexible when we asked to change our dates as well.

Great house for multi generational family
This house felt like home immediately. Full of character, home comforts and thoughtful little welcome basket. Beds sublimely comfortable, bathrooms excellent. Great toy box for children, jigsaws for all ages and generations. Large screen TV. Books for all. Well equipped kitchen altho more pans of different sizes would be great. Garden has charm but disappointingly wild. I know naturalistic is good but brambles etc….? Most missed was a guide to the house, guide to local shops and things to do. Wi-Fi detail location Overall - would recommend this property! Thank you for a great stay!

One week stay
Wonderful cottage great location and super comms from the owner. Lovely fireplace in the lounge with some wood to get us going was appreciated as well. 10 - 15 mins from multiple beaches and towns and dog friendly as we had there dogs with us. The upstairs bedroom had lovely views of the moon and the snow when it came. The only two minus points about the place - but not negative in anyway and did not detracts from our beautiful stay would be 1) It was a little difficult to find in the dark (we arrived after the sun had gone down) as there aren't numbers on the door so we had to walk around little to work out the instructions and 2) the guttering over the front door could do with replacing as it leaks water permanently so every time we left the house or came in we would get dripped on. Apart from these two minor things the house is gorgeous , would highly recommend for couples, families or groups of friends wanting to share one accommodation for a party or holiday and conveniently located 3 mins away from the village shop. thank you so much for a wonderful stay - we will be back next time we come to the north east.

A good find
This is a lovely property internally but sadly the exterior is not as welcoming. Located in a village on the main road which is not clear from the description, however road not too busy. The village has a good cafe and Co-op and the swing park was most welcome with the almost 2yo. A pity there is no pub. The house is about a half hour walk away from the beach/coastal path but well worth the trip. Good trips locally all within easy driving distance. A lovely welcome pack from the owner and responded well to slight problem with the refuse collection. We had a lovely stay and I would recommend the house. We were a party with an age range 70-2 plus a dog. All had a good time.

Excellent stay
We have just left a week long stay with three generations of the family. The house was perfect for us and everyone had the space they needed. The garden was beautiful, enclosed and private so perfect for kids playing on summer evenings. Short walk/drive down to a gorgeous beach. The house had everything we needed. Comfy beds and even toys for the kids. Only negative - the listing wasn’t very helpful. Check in time conflicted saying 3 pm and 4 pm and we had to email the owner for instructions for arrival. No info on bins etc in the house. Communication with the owner was great they replied very quickly with helpful info. We would definitely stay again.

Lovely property
Very comfortable, nicely decorated, good location. What a shame the garden has been left to run wild. We would like to have had comfortable outdoor furniture and instructions on how to turn off the heating - it was too warm. The upstairs shower only runs on an extremely high temperature the water was scalding hot.

Lovely home in a friendly community
We had a lovely week stay with family (8 adults, one baby and a dog). The local community are very friendly and the beach close to the house is beautiful. The home is a good base to travel further afield to places like Seahouses to have a boat trip to Inner Farne. Local places like Alnmouth, Amble and Alnwick are also very nice. There is a cafe up the road called Company B who do a nice breakfast. We enjoyed The Running Fox cafe, Links Restaurant in Seahouses, Manor Arms in Warkworth and Carlo's icecream in Alnwick! Thanks for a lovely stay.

Lovely family break
We spent the weekend at Coast Cottage and had a lovely weekend. The house is beautifully decorated and was cleaned to a high standard. The kids loved the box of toys in the living room and the books. The adults loved the little hamper provided on arrival! The weather was poor on the Saturday so drove the 10 mins to Craster which is lovely little harbour village - you must try the kippers or smoked salmon! We then enjoyed just chilling by the fire in the living room. We walked down to the beach via the back lane which took about 20-25 mins with the kids on their scooters - lovely and flat country lane, just look out for vehicles. You pass through a farm which the kids loved seeing the cows, sheep and chickens in the barns and field. We also visited Embleton which has a great play park for younger children and you can park at the golf course to enjoy the beautiful beach there. You can sit outside at the gold club and enjoy a reasonably priced hot or cold drink (or ice cream!) and was Covid secure and organised when going to bar to order or use the toilet. All in all we had a lovely short break which we needed after the rubbish year of 2020. Would recommend this cottage.

Great location, very pretty and spacious
The cottage is in a great spot-we drove down to the beach every morning-it is unspoilt and not busy at all. It’s an easy drive to lots of castles, beaches and lovely towns and villages . Three bedrooms are on the ground floor and the main bedroom is upstairs. It’s is nicely decorated, bright and very clean. It’s a large cottage and easily accommodated five of us-but would be fine with several more. Lovely contained garden and good parking. Lots of extras including a welcome pack-but dishwasher tabs and washing up liquid-all really great not to have to pack. We have three teenagers-and the WiFi wasn’t great-but we were out most of the time. Highly recommended if you want well equipped ,spacious and pretty accommodation in a good spot.

Lovely weekend break....
We had a lovely weekend stay in this gorgeous property, 6 adults, 2 children & 2 dogs! It was perfect for us, the cottage was lovely inside and it’s a great location. We had a walk to the beach which was beautiful even though it was a cold, fairly wet day. I would definitely recommend this property and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Thank you!

Nov/Dec long weekend stay in Longhoughton 2019
Lovely cosy cottage with plenty of space, 20 minutes walk from the coast. Well equipped and very efficient heating system which was enhanced by the wood burner (very frosty when we stayed, so lovely to come back to). Bedrooms were spacious and beds really comfortable. Plenty of fluffy white towels for the bathrooms too. We really enjoyed our stay. A helpful addition would be a “house manual” just saying how things work ie heating system, or where things are ie logs for wood burner (we raided the shed but weren’t sure it was ok to help ourselves!) and nearest and/or recommended shop/pub/petrol station etc. Overall a great venue for a group of old friends to meet up.
