Dog friendly, great views
We enjoyed our stay here. Wee one enjoyed the cabin and our dog enjoyed herself too. Safe and gated so the furry one can roam free. Jacuzzi and bbq was great. Well prepared for the furry one, bowls, towel, treats and bags so, we didnt need to bring anything but food.

Absolutely perfect
My friend and I arrived a little early, but to a welcoming and smiling Lorna. The property was immaculate, very comfortable both sitting area and beds. We didn't want for anything - the breakfast hamper was a welcome boon, the hot tub lovely and warm, and facilities in the lodge brilliant. The toiletries smelt delicious too. I'll definitely be back - when up that way again - would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting somewhere wonderful to relax. Thanks for the hospitality Lorna.

Amazing log cabin
Stayed 2 adults and 2 children (14 and 11) for two nights last week. The log cabin is perfect, in pristine condition with every detail thought of. Beds were super comfy, all equipment you could ever need and it was amazing In the hot tub with the stunning views. The surrounding area is lovely with some spectacular coastline, although we were not blessed with brilliant weather we did manage to get out a fair bit. Lorna the host was very friendly, came and helped us with the fire, and the welcome pack was very thoughtful. In all a fabulous stay.

Beautiful little lodge and exceptionally clean
We spent 3 nights at this beautiful little lodge with our 3 girls and our dog. The lodge is absolutely beautiful and the hot tub is an added bonus. Lorna welcomed us on arrival and had even left us a welcome hamper, which saved us doing a shop on our first night, after a long journey. We would definitely recommend it. The lodge is so clean and modern, it’s an absolute credit to Lorna. Thank you for having us, hopefully we will be back again soon. From The Mallards

A perfect stay
Rowanlea Lodge has gorgeous views of surrounding areas. Very peaceful and private location. Parking available and your own garden area with hot tub, out door seating area and an array of flowers and plants. The lodge is a home from home, very comfortable and beautifully decorated. It is fully equipped with everything you might need for your stay. The Host has amazing attention to detail and really made us feel welcome. Special little touches including a breakfast pack with local or home made food products, gorgeous shower gel/ shampoo products and also dog bowls, towels and treats for our dogs. Lodge is in a perfect location for local outings /attractions and close to A90 if you want to travel to places further afield.

Perfect little gem
Everything about this property was wonderful. Lorna really does go above and beyond with the little touches. Homemade marmalade and jam, bacon, eggs, butter and croissants amongst other things within the welcome pack. The hot tub is a delight after a day of exploring the area, with great views, the addition of the portable speak was great as we normally take ours for the hot tub but we had forgotten it. Lorna provides a good variety of dvds and board games aswell as Netflix (all great for when the weather is a bit rubbish) Lots to do around the area, highly recommend balmoral castle, dunnottar castle, st Cyrus beach, Stonehaven, Aberdeen and Montrose (this is what we managed to do within our time here) We would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who appreciates nature, time-out and exploring.

100% recommend this beautiful lodge. The pictures look stunning but once you are there it is so much better. We had a lovely relaxed weekend with everything we could possibly need provided for us. I really can’t wait to stay again. The 5 hour drive definitely didn’t put me off. Even the dogs loved it having a good run around all day. Thank you so much

Our Stay At Rowanlea Lodge
From the minute we walked in we could see this was an exceptional property that has been put together with great care. The property description is correct in that its a true Log Cabin experience which is very cozy and welcoming. We only met Lorna the owner for a few minutes chat but it was obvious in that time that she really is lovely and was very much wanting to ensure our stay was perfect.

Fabulous Place
From the minute we arrived we felt relaxed. Met Lorna the owner who lives next door. She’s so nice and the welcome hamper was just what we needed after our long journey. Very quiet location, secure garden for our 2 dogs. Our daughter loved having the upstairs bedroom area to herself, absolutely beautiful up there. we had the downstairs one which was very cosy. Beautiful furniture everywhere, best equipped kitchen ever! We didn’t get to use the hot tub but it was really clean and ready to use if we did. Will definitely stay again, never visited the east coast of Scotland but with day trips like Balmoral castle and St. Andrews about an hour away it’s a beautiful part of the country. 10 out of 10. Can’t fault this beautiful lodge in any way.

The best hidden gem in the north east 💕
We absolutely loved our stay in the fabulous Rowanlea Lodge. The cabin is just adorable and Lorna had thought of everything. A lovely breakfast pack was included, from a local farm shop, beautiful Shetland soap and shower gels were also included for use. These little extras made our stay more special. Of course the hot tub was just a fabulous bonus. We came home very relaxed from our wee break and have booked again. Great for doggies too. Dog bowls, towels and even lovely treats were left for our fur babies. 💕5 star+💕

Idyllic lodge stay
Booked this property as a joint birthday treat for my husband and one of his friends and can honestly say it was a joy. Lorna was there on arrival and was super friendly, helping us get our bearings with the local area and giving us pointers on how to use the wood-fired grill. The hot tub was ready to go on arrival and our dog Riley loved having run of the gardens. The only thing that was wrong with our stay was that it wasn’t long enough!

Amazing Lodge ina fantastic setting
What a wonderful time we had, this was my first time in a lodge and it honestly surpassed my expectations as it was so lovely and the attention to detail was just such a lovely touch. Lorna was around if you needed her but totally gave us our own space to enjoy our stay. We enjoyed the hot tub greatly and sitting there watching the sunset was so special. I am just back and missing it already. Will definitely return and recommend heartily.

About the host

Hosted by Lorna Hutchison

Host profile image
I am from the Orkney Islands and moved to the mainland 22 years ago. Having been brought up on a farm I love the outdoors and all animals. I'm a keen gardener and keep active walking my two dogs. I love to meet up with family and close friends especially at some of my favourite restaurants close by.
From designing Rowanlea Lodge to the finished build has been a great adventure. I have thoroughly enjoyed doing the interior design and would love to build again in the future.

Why they chose this property

Although in a rural location the cabin is close to many small villages, towns, beaches and beautiful countryside. If you need to get away from it all this is the perfect location.

What makes this property unique

You will love my place. The Scottish Douglas Fir trees that have each been carved by hand and used to provide the solid structure of Rowanlea Lodge to the tasteful decor and luxurious furnishings. After a day exploring you can relax outside at the front of the cabin until the sun goes down and take in the spectacular view. If it's a little cold the wood burner will give you that cozy feel and the view is just as lovely through the double patio doors.
I always greet guests on arrival and I'm available to answer any questions about the surrounding area and places of interest to visit. A welcome breakfast hamper sourced from our local farm shop is provided to get your holiday off to a great start, all linen, towels and luxury soaps, free WI-FI, logs and kindling are provided. Our cabin is well equipped for guests so they can settle in and make the most of their holiday.
We look forward to your visit.
